Bad News On Stimulus Jobs

Well, various economists. There are various economists who would disagree, too. So we'll never know for sure.

I don't think the recession was "mythical", however. I'm pretty sure every economist agrees we were in a recession.

Yes, we are in a recession and the economy truly did suck. But the mythical part of it was the assumption that just throwing money at the problem to "stimulate" the economy would take the US out of the shitter faster.

I didn't make an excuse for it. I said it was just politics (meaning, has no value beyond politics).

By not calling it out as bullshit, you do make an excuse for it.

I did observe that your hero did the same sort of thing. Sorry if that bothers you.

barfo

Winston Churchill and Ted Williams both came up with bullshit employment metrics?

By not calling it out as bullshit, you do make an excuse for it.

That's funny. So if I don't explicitly use the word "bullshit" I am making excuses for it?

I must conclude that you are making excuses for many, many things.

by extending the problem further into the future by borrowing money the US doesn't have to create non-essential jobs for the sake of creating them?

Apparently that argument doesn't work with the republicans. Of course they can preach fiscal responsibility out of office, but they don't practice it while in office. At least the ones now-a-days.

Dems have been saying that about the war for a while.

I love this tactic. You know exactly what I mean. When something is wrong, you don't make excuses for it, you call a spade a space.

Which is exactly why I'm not a Republican (well, that and social issues). I want LIMITED government. If I wanted big government, I'd vote for the Democrats. The Bush Republicans were just pretenders. They went native and paid the price for it. When the American people realized both parties were going to expand government, they elected the professionals.

And I called a spade a spade. You apparently just don't like the exact wording I used. Bummer for you.

You just can't bring yourself to say anything bad about the schills you voted for. At least most of the rest of us have the courage of our convictions.

You don't think the stimulus bill was rushed? The fact that so little of it is spent is of little relevance here to this ill-thought of, shot in the dark and haphazard infusion of cash into the economy.

You said it was just rushed so it was throwing cash.

Well, where is all the cash it is throwing? 14% (if the number is even that high). Whose to say they even continue to dole it over to the full extent over its lifetime?

also,

But the mythical part of it was the assumption that just throwing money at the problem to "stimulate" the economy would take the US out of the shitter faster.

I'd like to see your facts that justify this, because as far as I know no one is the ultimate master of time, space, and dimension and can know this.

Thank you for posting for me. Clearly you agree with both of my contentions. At least you're big enough to admit you won't criticize those on your side of the spectrum and that your posts are boring.

IDK if this was mentioned in this thread already. I'm not going one way or another on this, I just saw this was on the Yahoo! front page and thought it was relevant.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_stimulus_jobs

Gov't says stimulus saved or created 650,000 jobs

What's $800B / 650,000?

That'd be the cost of saving or creating each job.

I'll save you the trouble of doing the math.

$1,230,769.23

Give me that money in the private sector and I'll create at least 12 jobs.

BTW, two very minor amounts of spending is being credited for the end of the recession:

Cash for clunkers ($2B out of that $800B)
and
First time buyer's home credit of $8K

Denny, could you dig up that article showing that all $800B has been spent? I'd very much like to see it.

Try to stay on topic. Please offer one example where you have criticized some policy or tactic put forth b someone left of center.

This thread, post #50. Where, oddly enough, I was agreeing with you.

I had read/seen a figure of roughly $72K per job, which is still too much.
