Really the conversation is about adding teams and completely redesigning the league with all west teams being together and east and so on. The idea is because of the amount of games played and travel schedule.I think it should be an AL team.. Portland/Seattle rivalry, Makes geographical sense as well. I would hope it'd be an AL team.
When the vote in the state Senate happened they sent reps to try to get it to fail
I totally agree it needs to be a catalyst for new development but i just don't think they will kill the industrial area to do it. That area needs to continue to grow because of the population growth. Where would they move the industrial area? Also isn't the Natural Gas area closed to construction for 20-25 more years? I thought EPA has their rules to follow? How do you get a truck into a terminal on a Wednesday afternoon when they are putting 40-60 thousand people in the seats and trying to park during a day game in September right in the middle of the pennant race?City of Portland owns two large tracts of land down there and there is the NW Nat Gas area by the St John's bridge.
Again, the new stadium needs to be a catalyst for future development.

I see a bunch more area for new growth out where we have a race track that nobody uses anymore except for Christmas lights and car shows. Then you already have Expo and Meadows parking. New Strip malls, Restaurants, Delta Park becomes tournament city with Hotels. Hayden Island wins big also not to mention the help for Vancouver.
If we can a MLB team, can we work some type of 2-way contract with Patty C?
Honestly way betterHow about the Pussycats?

Yeah, die-hard baseball fans will hate that though. Baseball doesn't appeal as much to the younger generation, and changes (pitch clock, instant replay, elimination of AL/NL) could alienate their older fans as well. So I don't think they'll do that. Just go with:Really the conversation is about adding teams and completely redesigning the league with all west teams being together and east and so on. Look ot up. There have been at least two groups I can rememberIt's been a thing without a group
This one seems to actually have a group. I'm not fully convinced, but if they actually name name a group, that's a huge step.

Isn't that done by lobbyists for every single piece of legislation like, ever?

Seattle Mariners
Portland***
Oakland Athletics
Los Angeles Angels
Texas Rangers
Kansas City Royals
Minnesota Twins
Houston AstrosBoston Red Sox
New York Yankees
Chicago White Sox
Baltimore Orioles
Toronto Blue Jays
Montreal***
Cleveland Indians
Detroit TigersSt. Louis Cardinals
Los Angeles Dodgers
San Diego Padres
Arizona Diamondbacks
San Fransisco Giants
Milwaukee Brewers
Colorado Rockies
Chicago CubsNew York Mets
Philadelphia Phillies
Washington Nationals
Atlanta Braves
Miami Marlins
Cincinatti Reds
Pittsburgh Pirates
Tampa Bay Rays*
Creates Seattle vs. Portland, Toronto vs. Montreal, and Tampa vs. Miami Divisional Rivalries. Tampa moves from the AL East to the NL East (They are the newest team in the MLB, so switching leagues isn't a big deal from a historical prospective.
That travel isn't that bad either. Bigger divisions means more games against teams closer than further away, as the additional teams in the division are going to essentially be the next closest to the region.
I don't think the mariners send their reps down to do often.
Do you even follow Stadium plans or this city at all? There is zero chance a MLB stadium is going anywhere near delta park/per/expo center. That is the worst traffic in the entire metro area, is not near a major transit hub or is a destination. These new stadiums are built near down towns or in them. Foot traffic and mass transit a must. This will be built at the rose quarter or somewhere close by if it progresses.I totally agree it needs to be a catalyst for new development but i just don't think they will kill the industrial area to do it. I think even die hards realize the game needs to change. Manfred has the power to add a pitch clock this off season. And he has already said he's going too regardless this offseason even if the Player Union refuses. Which I don't think will happen because even the players have said they realize 4 hour games are ridiculous. I wouldn't even mind reliever limits so it can stop mangers from Mike Scioscia from using 12 pitchers in one friggin game. But I think the future of baseball is looking good with players like Stanton, Judge, Machado and Harper. It just needs to improve it's marketing and visibility. And it would also help if Mike Trout, the best player in the game, would do more commercials and publicity. The only times I see that stick in the mud outside of playing baseball is when he's at Eagles games.
Meh, the MLB is like Portland, 6% black.
I have no idea what any of this means. When we are on the S2 Portland baseball forum I will know how YOU people feel posting on here, completely clueless. Wonder if Jinx will be as much of a homer as he is for our Blazers? #162WinsThe majority of players will always be Caucasion and Latin which I think is about a 58/35 split or something like that. I've heard about a new RBI Baseball Academy started a few years ago but I don't know how effective it is. I am more concerned about the effort being done at the coaching level. Dave Roberts and Dusty Baker are the only black managers in the league right now. That is pretty fucking sad. My guess is Ron Washington will probably be offered another job this off-season, most likely the Braves. He just had that flameout in Texas. Guy is one of the best bench coaches in the game.
no...no it doesn'tPortland Lumberjacks has a nice ring to it!
