Check it out.

The notion of Bayless being more of an impact player for the Blazers than Greg Oden would have seemed preposterous as recent as a couple days ago, back when Steve Blake was putting together his best stretch of games all season and Bayless was riding the pine, pressing more than producing in the scant playing time he was receiving behind Sergio Rodriguez.

But when Blake suffered a shoulder separation Wednesday night in Philadelphia and flew back to Portland on Thursday (he is expected to miss 7-10 days, coach Nate McMillan said), Bayless knew he was going to get his opportunity.

He came off the bench behind Rodriguez, but he was on the floor for the final 9:08 of a fourth quarter in which he scored 11 of Portland's 37 points.

It was an overall performance so rock-solid and steady (6-for-9 from the field, 11-for-11 from the line) that McMillan said he'll consider moving Bayless into the starting five Saturday for Portland's final stop on this four-game road trip, in Charlotte.

Yes!! He's gonna start! Makes sense. I'm sure Roy has already given the orders. And Sergio is better off coming off the bench with Rudy. And once Blake comes back, Sergio= 3rd string, just when he thought it couldn't get worse.

That's amazing. He's on the front page of ESPN.com. That is HUGE. He must be soooo happy. I'm glad we held him back. It geared him up to be on top of his game once his chance arrived. He needs to send a thank you card to Reggie Evans.

that dunk in the highlights was sick - man, i hope he can go on from here!~

I do love the guy but let's wait until he can 1) hit a jumper or at least 2) put up another game like tonight before we start calling him "Air Bayless" or whatever.

unfortunately the guys over at espn didn't actually watch the game with a great line like "Oden was thoroughly outplayed by New Jersey's Brook Lopez when the two were on the court together".

Good for the young guy :)

Just saw the article, I knew he had a great night, just by word of mouth, but didn't know he did that well. Hope he gets more burn.

So Lopez didn't outplay Oden?

I agree so long as they mean "for this one game". If they honestly think that Bayless is going to have more impact than Greg Oden then either they're insane or this is a savage indictment of Nate's coaching.

Well what other game would it have been for? I don't think Sheridan is implying anything at all about Oden's long term potential, just noting that Bayless seemed to come out of nowhere.

did you see the quote i took from the article? it said that lopez thoroughly outplayed oden when the two were in the game together.

lopez absolutely had the better game of the two.

Serg starting again.
Which is not a bad thing at all. Bayless will still get significant minutes and a chance to impact the game. His time as a starter is coming, and there's no need to rush it.

And if Bayless blows up again, then what?

Then I think Nate is going to say he's got some more thinking to do ... But then again if the Sergio starting (but only playing for 20ish minutes) and Bayless subbing (but playing 25+ minutes) rotation produces results why mess with it?

Wait, did Brandon get hurt? Does this mean that Sergio and Bayless are starting? Afterall, Maris keeps telling us that Sergio is the heir apparent PG (who only has good passing skills, and suffers still from poor defensive and shooting abilities) and Bayless is a scrub SG.

If Bayless does well again it might be a indication to Nate to leave him coming off the bench instead of starting.

Which doesn't make any sense. If you brought Duncan off the bench, he'd do great (because he's really good, no matter when he plays). Would that be an indication that you're doing something right?

Granted, "starting" is a pretty meaningless label. The best players should play the most. If Bayless keeps playing great basketball, he should be getting starter minutes.

Great image posted in one of the comments on that post:

I'm not 100% certain but I think original credit needs to be given to Ben from Blazersedge.com; he posted that thing way back during summer league.

Ah, okay. The commentor did say "Ben summed it up best" and posted that image. I had no idea who "Ben" was.
