He's a free man now.

About frickin time. The coaching staff needs to be neutered for hindering him so far this season.

He's had better stats before, but tonight was truly his breakout game.

I knew this thread would be up right as the game ended

Man I"m pumped up. You know what I loved about JB's game tonight? He started off bad. In the 1st half he sailed that pass in the back court over Roy's head out of bounds, he took a bad shot instead of setting the offense up, he had that reach in foul on Sergio that game him 3 FT's, and he got posted up by Udoka a couple of times. But he DIDN'T get down on himself!!

And they didn't yank him!! Bayless is going to do some things that make you scratch your head, but props to him and the coaching staff for letting him play through it. When he is comfortable, he is a match-up problem for almost everybody. I love it. And the next time he starts off a little slow let this be a lesson to the coaches and JB himself - keep your head up!!!! BLLLLLAAAAZZZZEEERRRRSSSSSSSS WINNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

Speaking of freed, I wonder if this frees-up KP to make a move?

I wouldn't get too carried away, but yeah I think if Miller doesn't pick up his play pretty soon (like within the next ten games) then I think his days are numbered. Honestly I think the two points auditioning to keep their jobs are Miller and Blake at this point.

This was maybe the most impressed I've ever been with Nate on a rotation decision. He let Jerryd figure it out a little and in the process showed a little bit of trust. It doesn't seem like much, but I think that was a big deal.

He could be our Travis Outlaw for awhile.

Couldn't agree more. For Bayless to bust out, the leash has to be loosened. I think it's huge that in a MUST WIN (wasn't it? Given the next 6 games?) he let Bayless play through some early mistakes. I wonder what JB puts on his twitter tonight? You know he's fired up.

Problem Nate has to stick with him for more than one game. Nate tends to go back to his old ways especially against good teams. Lets see if Bayless gets the same amount of leash against Phoenix.

It was a win.

HUH? That was a win too and Bayless was even more of a factor in crunch time. And it was on the road. That game was definitely more of a "breakout" game than tonight's was. The question is whether or not the coaching staff will continue to trust him. We all know he can play. He's played well from day one going back to summer league.

I don't know...last year's Nets game was when there wasn't a ton of pressure, he was in a backup role, had a great game, and faded back into obscurity once Blake got back.

Today's game showed that he deserved the minutes bump he seemingly earned, and rewarded Nate's trust w/ a great crunch time effort. I'd say this is much more "breakout", b/c I don't think he's fading anywhere anytime soon.

I enjoyed this game. Of course, this was the first one I have seen in, like, forever. But, anyway, it was a nice game and it was nice to see JB getting the run. This season can still be saved, if we get JB development minutes, and get Nic and Outlaw a little later in the year to add some depth. Not likely to go deep in the playoffs if we make it - without Oden, but there is some hope.

It was definitely a bigger performance, but to that point there was virtually no scouting report on him and he pretty much scored on nothing but drives. Tonight was different for a couple of reasons. First, Nate had the option of putting in a more veteran guy like Miller, in NJ Blake was out with injury, Secondly, I actually saw Jerryd playing point guard out there tonight, not just Corey Maggette Junior.

A) Bayless was in backup role tonight.

B) There was a ton of pressure. He was one of only two point guards on the team.

C) That game versus the Nets showed he deserved a minutes bump THEN. And he had an even greater crunch time effort in that game. I remember everyone in here assuming that Steve Blake would no longer start after that game.

Read Bayless' quotes in that article. That was his breakout game.

Because he was the finisher tonight. He scored 10 of his 14th in the 4th, and he iced the game by scoring the final 6 teams points. Bayless was the money man tonight.

Ummmm.... he was the finisher in that game too. He had what was essentially the game winning dunk and he drained a ton of free throws.

Bayless scored 11 of his 23 points in the 4th quarter of the game in New Jersey.

It was a completely more impressive performance than what he did to tonight at home against the Kings.

I guess it depends on the definition of "breakout game". If the definition is that he's going to breakout of the limited minutes position he has been in and get a larger role on this team...I hope this IS his breakout game.

Well I'm scared for Bayless. If Blake or Miller isn't gone by the time Rudy comes back, does Bayless go back to playing 10 minutes a night?

Well, the fact of the matter is.... he's not really. It will all depend on how well Miller and Blake are playing and once Rudy comes back, if there are no trades, Bayless will see less minutes. Structural changes have to happen to this team for Bayless to get a larger role.
