Bayless wants out?

I hope Blake pulls a muscle shooting a free throw.

Then Bayless would play.

As soon as Bayless arrived in town we heard that KP and McMillan weren't impressed with him. He looked terrible at PG in Summer League. He's only shown potential as a volume scorer. He's got a questionable attitude, which is a lot more questionable if it's true that he demanded a trade not even halfway through his first season.

He's probably going to be a very good player in the league, but might not be a good fit on THIS team.

Multiple people over on Blazersedge have gone through today's podcast and heard nothing about Bayless demanding a trade. As of now this is nothing more than a internet rumor.

I'm not worried.. this has about as much juice as Comcast signing a deal with the satellite companies a couple weeks back that was started on OLive.
Booooo to internet rumors!

We'll be sorry if we trade Bayless. He is one of those guys who plays with a chip on his shoulder and if we dealt him we'd be on his shit list for life.
Honestly, I would be pissed off too if I were him. He is seeing all of these other rookies, ones drafted ahead of him and behind him, get too much run this year, only to sit behind Steve Blake and Sergio Rodriguez....let that sit in.
Also, I'm sure he isn't demanding a trade, just wanted to let it be known, he wants to play, either here or elsewhere, just somewhere where he can play.

Frankly, I'm pissed at Nate. We have a kid who gets to the paint at will and doesn't back down from anyone. He has all the makings of a big-game player, EVERYTHING we need, and Nate sits him. I do not buy that "well we already play 3 rookies in the rotation." BULL SHIT. If you can play, you can play.

Rubio is a lock to come out this season. It's not even a debate, it's well known.
http://www.draftexpress.com/article/Blogging-Through-Europe-2008-Part-Five-Spain--3060/
Even prior to his injury, it would have taken some pretty special circumstances to get Rubio out of his contract, which currently sports a seven million Euro buyout.

With that in mind, and considering everything we've heard during our time in Spain, we now expect Rubio to stay at Joventut for at least another season, if not two, which is when his contract expires.

It's possible that Joventut decides to up Rubio"s salary from the laughable sum of 80,000 Euro he's currently making-which probably makes him the most under-paid player in Europe- but it's unlikely they will shorten the contract or accept an NBA affordable buyout prior to 2011.

With any good young team, as the players develop, tronger personalities come out and chemistry starts to become an issue.

I love how this team, IMO, is playing an unselfish brand of ball where there isn't a player on the team that feels they have to get theirs on each night I know there will be as time where some bench players will realize they can start and have the opportunity to be a star on another team . . . but I don't expect that attitude from a young rookie #12 draft pick who hasb't proved anything yet and plays on a winning team . . . which is why I refuse to believe this is anything more than Bayless expressing a desire to play more.

7 Million is nothing for Rubio's talent. Any team in the NBA would pay that if it meant getting him. He's 3x the prospect Rudy is.

Team's aren't allowed to pay more than $500,000, so unless Ricky is willing to fork over $6.5 million to come to the NBA....

He'd be smart to since he's not making any money over there. He can make up $7MM real quick over here with endorsements. If New York ends up with the first or second pick he would make up that $7MM in his first season. Do you think he's going to pass on the chance to play in New York under D'Antoni, with LeBron James to pass to for a measly $7MM?

A "measly" $7 million.....I don't think there's any way he contributes anything close to that much money towards his buyout. Yes I think he'd pass on the "chance" to play in New York, who won't have LeBron by the time this season's draft rolls around.

Why would Rubio come over with the 7 million buyout? The NBA isn't going anywhere, he can come over next year or the year after when his buyout is better.

According to Chris Brousard this morning on ESPN, Bayless while not demanding a trade would like to be traded because he doesn't play.

Brousard also said that some NBA executives believe the Blazers don't think Bayless is the answer at PG because he is a volume scorer.

So let me get this straight......Brandon Roy doesn't want to play with a true PG who needs the ball all the time, but the Blazers don't think a player that doesn't need the ball all the time and can score isn't the answer?

Jermaine O'Neal part deux. Probably better than both players in front of him, but can't get into the games because his coach doesn't like rookie mistakes.

Bayless needs the ball all the time, or feels he does.

He's a quicker, weaker version of Brandon, and has a similar ego. He has never been a good fit unless he replaces Brandon or Rudy, which would be ridiculous.

3 times the prospect Rudy is? Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! That was a good one.

And completely true. Very few people would argue about that, unless of course they really don't know what they're talking about. I argued with people like you about Rudy being a great prospect. You would have laughed at me then too, so you laughing now means nothing to me. I was right about Rudy. I was right about Batum. I was right about Sergio. And I'm going to be right about Rubio as well.

He's the best PG prospect since Magic.

Saying Rubio is "3x the prospect" that Rudy is makes it a subjective opinion and not objectively "true". Adding he's the best PG prospect since Magic makes it hilarious.

Do you even know what subjective means?

You should take an economics course. $7MM is peanuts. He could make way more than that in his first year if he was in a media market like New York. Or he could wait until 2011 and end up on a team like Milwaukee where he won't get many endorsements and be in the first year of a rookie contract waiting a long time in the cold weather waiting for free agency. If he waits until 2011, he's going to be praying that he ends up on a team like the Clippers where he'd have a good Spanish fan base.

Let's put it this way..

He can stay overseas, wait until 2011 and in that time frame make maybe $1 or $2 million Euros.
Or he can pay the $7MM, come to America, be playing in his contract year in 2011 by which point he could potentially have made $30 or so million in endorsements.

Which is obviously the better option?

Um, Paul and D.Will?

I wouldn't trade either of them for Ruby, he hasn't proven much yet. Yes, I know young guys don't get the playing time in the euroleague.
I wouldn't pick him in the top 5 this year or next based upon what he has shown... (not to mention buyout issues).

I was right about Sergio

About what? Rodriguez is one of the worst defenders at pg in the NBA, as far as I have seen. And his offense doesn't begin to make up for that.

That's a silly comparison. Magic was a PF with otherworldly passing and dribbling skills. Could Rubio start at center and score 40 points in his rookie year? I think not.

I like Rubio a lot, though. If we had the #1 pick and he came out this draft, I would be more than happy to have us take him. But he's more Jason Kidd than Magic Johnson. Only skinny. Watching him in the Olympics, the current player he most reminds me of is Rajon Rondo for the havoc he wreaks by playing the passing lanes. He's taller, but less athletic. He's a very good passer, but Rondo is very underrated in that respect.

Go with Jason Kidd. (Who went #2, ahead of Grant Hill, remember, and also couldn't shoot.) It's safer (and less silly) than Magic.

Really? How?

Um, Paul and D.Will?

Yeah, Rubio is a MUCH better prospect than either of those two were when they were drafted. Was Rubio 16 when they were drafted? If rules allowed it he would have been drafted ahead of them in that draft. Paul was drafted after three teams passed on him, DWill even later. Rubio is going first in pretty much any draft he's in, period. Rubio is 6'5 with unparalleled vision and handles.

I wouldn't trade either of them for Ruby

That's not the point when comparing prospects. The point is to compare them at the time they were drafted. CP3 and DWill have reached their potential, they are established NBA stars. They were not drafted that way, there were drafted as prospects. Big difference, and an important difference.

he hasn't proven much yet.

*edited: No ethnic slurs* I would have hoped Portland's foreign fan base would have increased by now, or at the very least Portland fans would have learned a little bit about ball outside the US. Instead all I see is the same ignorant cliched bullshit.

I wouldn't pick him in the top 5 this year or next based upon what he has shown...

Okay, so you're admitting you don't know anything about the draft. Thank you for staying away from the Blazers front office.

Have you seen Blake or Nash play defense at PG? Sergio is no worse than either of them. Sergio still needs to work on his offense, but when he's in the game the rest of the teams offense is better. Too bad some people are overly concerned with scoring from their PG's, especially their young ones. You were probably on the trade O'Neal bandwagon as well.

So, where does the kid find $7,000,000 to buy out his contract? Pull it out of his arse?

Can someone please explain to me how to block posters? I have never done it before cause I never felt the need but *someone here* has made it impossible to read anything. I tried clicking on their name and going to their profile but it I didn't see anything there.

EDIT: Never mind, figured it out.
