Yessir. My daughter is down here playing in the Elite Club Soccer National Championships with her squad. They are ranked #5 in the country. Very pumped. Don’t get to see her play on the road very often. Her league games are in Colorado, Arizona, California....all over the west. But it’s usually during Blazer season, so I miss ‘em. So I said screw it. Cashed in some SkyMiles and shot down here til Monday. She doesn’t even know I’m here. Was going to give this place a break, but It’s like a bad car crash. Same old people arguing. Sounds cheesy, but this place is not important enough to get so angry about shit. I don’t care what people say, it used to not be like this. People take this stuff so serious now. Busy telling everybody how WRONG or STUPID their opinions are. Leave the basement and go enjoy the day.

You musta taught her how to mean mug!

Damn that's tight! Who's the athletic Father?

Isn’t that what Stotts implied at the press conference? Sounds like he and Neil have a bunch more moves planned.

For the first time I’m thinking Chief and Harkless may be gone.
Chief and Harkless for Kanter?

I'd do that trade.

My granddaughter whom sadly I've only met once and don't know well is playing in those games in San Diego...my daughter is so proud of her..missed out on that experience.....hoping to get to know her one day...my other grandchildren who I do know well will be there cheering her on! I have a lot of family in San Diego

Here maybe this will end the discussion:

I will never ever apologize for the shit show of 2016.

And im one of them. So put it to rest.
You'd just rather be in the lotto with some idiot GM swinging for the fences like we always had before... Rather than just admitting that the contracts of 2016 weren't the end of the world...

Little side-track. Normally I'd hold this type of post back, but it's getting silly...

What's with the die-hard Olshey and Stotts supporters (not all of you) being more volatile then the people who they claim "can't accept others opinions"? It's mostly one guy in here but it's not just him in general.

"Eat crow"
"Apologize to Neil"
"You need to give props to Neil/Stotts"
"Grow up"
"Man up"

And then those that use these phrases complain about that type of posting from others the minute they get the chance to... Nobody has a problem with people being supportive of Neil, even if they disagree. I'll probably tell you I disagree, possibly question your objectivity in regard to the topic, but it's all in the framework of discussion and debate. It's about the topic at hand, not what you need to do, say, or any sort of personal attack. If I said things along these lines, y'all would definitely call me out on it.

I see these phrases used by the same people who self-righteously reprimand others for less, complaining about the constant "battles" that take place on this forum. If you don't want people saying things along the lines of "Grow up, apologize to me because you need to eat crow because Stotts sucks", then don't say these things!

Thing is, I don't care if you say these things. I'll respond in kind, and won't hold a grudge, or take is seriously or personally. What I really don't understand is how the same people that say these types of things will complain about others who use the same phrases back to them. They immediately go into defensive mode and somehow others "can't accept other opinions" even though they're saying these things to those who have different opinions.

It's so unnecessary. Either don't use these phrases and complain when anyone and everyone uses them, or don't complain when others use them back.
I've never complained about any of that. So I assume this doesn't apply to me...

Nothing wrong with pointing out when some people could man up and eat crow.

It's hilarious how married to disliking members of our team some people can be.

I wanted Nate gone but I gave him props when he made the right calls. If he'd ever gotten us to WCF I would have admitted I was wrong about him. Same as Aldridge.

Eating crow isn't a terrible thing... Depending on the prep it can be quite tasty.

I cheat and eat crow eggs...usually scrambled with some chili sauce

I understand how it works.

Youll get there someday.

Will never apologize.

Move on.

I wish your granddaughter luck........ Unless she is playing against my daughter.

I dont really like Neil’s personality, I try to give him credit for things. I actually mostly like Stotts. Im not sure either are the guys to bring Portland another Championship. Getting to the WCF’s didnt really change my opinion on that.

I’ll say I think NO did a good job this year, and the press conference after the draft was the most I have liked him since he’s been here. It not that Im tied to disliking them, its that while getting to the WCF’s was awesome, I want them to win another ring in my life time.

The one thing you’ve continued to say that seems completely baseless is that Neil’s the best GM Portland could get and without him they’d be a lottery team. Sure that could be the case but you don't know that..

You shouldn’t take this place so serious. Take your mind off all those stat things you talk about. Might be good for you, take that argumentative edge off. Give you a fresh perspective. This place really isn’t THAT important. You don’t have to always have the last word or “win” the argument. Get out and get some fresh air like TPFKATHCP......just watched the sun go down here in San Diego.

I remember you crying about the same exact things I'm questioning...

Does this mean you're old enough to be HCP's father? Wait a minute...maybe you ARE HCP's father!

That's pretty cool. Where are they playing the tournament at. We use to go to San Diego at least once a year for some of the bigger soccer tournaments such as my daughter played in the Surf Cup and my son played in the Nomads Cup. My son was also fortunate to play in a Nike Invitational tournament with many of the top teams from the best clubs in the west. Nike did it right as they had a cool World Cup like draw the night before where all the teams were present and the teams were drawn into pools. It was played at Cal State Fullerton. They finished 3rd out of 16 top teams. Good luck to your daughter and hope they can bring home some silverware to Oregon.

Has she thought yet about if/where she wants to play in college? One of my daughter's friends who just graduated is playing for Pepperdine next year.

Lol, I don't need to move on from anything... It's not my opportunity to man up. I'm enjoying the ride either way....

When you have stars that draw a lot of attention, you really want to surround them with
3 & D guys - guys who don't need the ball to be effective, but when they're passed to, hit the
open shot. It doesn't matter what position your stars play, surrounding them with 3 & D guys
is fantastic.

I've been interested in KB for a long time since he fits that bill. However, he's been too expensive
in the past. Now, we got him FOR A NEGATIVE ASSET, I am thrilled.

Just watched the presser, and I like him even more now. High character, comes from Old Dominion.

This is a great post. But we really do know that, don't we? We've been down that road.

I've seen no evidence to suggest we could get a better GM than Olshey (if you have some evidence we could I'd love to see it). When we've tried to do that we have typically failed. He's the best we've found since the salary cap became an issue.

All available evidence leads me to believe that running him out of town would be unwise if winning more is our goal.

Again, what makes you think we could get somebody better? Why would a better GM come here?

The problem is we really don't know, if someone else would do a better job or not. We know that all GM’s make some bad moves and some good ones.
Neil has done some really bad stuff, but at the same time has done some really good things and as of now has mostly worked his way out of the really bad moves he’s made.

Right now running him out of town wouldn't make much sense, but either of the past two summers, I think a good argument could be made to move on.

The thing about hiring a GM would be you don't know if they would be better or worse, say they fired neil and went out and found a guy who hadn't GM’d ever before, theres a chance that guy could someday be their best GM ever. They could go out and pay Ujiri or Buford 30M a year to bring them in, and they could turn out to be disasters. My point is that while we have history to say well this guy is good, its their future moves we cant know.

The problem I see with the argument that well if you want to win, you have to keep Neil, Neil’s next 10 moves could all end up being awful, we don't know that yet.

Who knows maybe another GM could have come in and had more success than Neil has.

The games are at the Surf Cup Fields in Del Mar. Ya this thing is big time. Tons of college scouts there today. Couple weeks ago they streamed the draws for teams like it was the world cup. Very impressed with how dialed in it all is. Girls got a L today unfortunately to a team from Atlanta. Play a team from NY they beat in the spring, so hope it goes better than today.
