Wonder how close the Beavs will be to cracking the top 25. The way they've performed since installing Nolan at QB, they absolutely deserve consideration.
I would say both the Beavs and Fresno State have earned top 25 rankings.

Beavers have a very favorable schedule over the next 6 weeks. UW, WSU, Utah (at home, after a bye week), Cal, and CU. They could (should?) legitimately win all those games. Can you imagine OSU being 8-1 in November?

2 weeks ago the Ducks were a top-5 team in the nation; tonight, they weren't even a top-5 team in the Pac-12
...& after the bluster clears the Ducks hold their spot as the #3 team in the nation in the all important early season rankings. They'll probably lose a game or two this year as they look good not great and it sure didn't set the heart aflutter seeing Kavon limping again, but good grief with the over the top fretting among some in the fanbase. Theres no prize for being the first to wet one's pants. Pretty sure that every team in the Pac 12 would happily trade records with UO

And look at OK, skin of their teeth, and a bunch of ranked teams got beat.

as a Duck fan, I'll say this:

I'm really impressed with the job Jonathan Smith has done. He's turned recruiting around and has the Beavers on the upswing. And he recognizes the value of zigging when other are zagging. That two-TE offense is effective because it's unusual and defenses have a tough time preparing for it in a week. That 'you-haven't-seen-this-before' advantage can be huge, and his team has the physicality to complement that kind of controlled offense. He's catching lightning in a bottle kind of like how Chip did at Oregon and Harbaugh did at Stanford

and, it's always nice to see USC get humiliated.

but get ready for it Beaver fans: if OSU keeps winning games, then Smith's name will come up whenever there's a major HC opening, in college or the pros
Just heard him interviewed last week and he grew up close to LA Coliseum and was a huge Trojan fan till college.

Huskies might be looking for a new coach too and Smith has ties to that program.

Next year?

I sure hope not, but I’m not discounting that possibility. I really like what he’s been done for OSU and hope he continues to build upon what he’s done so far. It really has been solid. OSU’s success helps our state and the entire PAC-12.

He’s a class act on and off the field. I’d like to see him stay around our state for a while.

Potato salad & salsa while not exactly what you want thrown at you, are mostly harmless. Frozen burritos on the other hand, those can hurt!

yeah, but OSU can throw all the potato salad and frozen burritos in the world at him! Maybe some salsa too.

The stupidity of doing away with the Civil War moniker for the series has not lessened with time. Just stupid - and still nothing to replace it.

As for Smith - it was clear two years ago he was the right hire - couple of breaks and we'd have been 7-5 or 8-4 in 2019. He's done wonders, and the recruiting for the next class looks great. A finished Reser should make that job a bit easier too. Here's hoping he sticks around much like some of our other great coaches like Pat Casey.

And everyone is still going to call it the civil war.

A few years ago didnt win a single conference game and haven't been to a bowl in 8 years... so no can't can't say should. But could have a nice stretch.

The past is the past. This year's team is good, and their next 5 opponents (save for Utah)...aren't. Based on the way each has played to this point, Beavs should be favored until at least Arizona State.

Monster win for the OSU program. Congrats to the Beavs. Good win for Oregon as well. But i don't think playing Mr. Tibbs was smart. Let that injury heal.

Wow, how the mighty have fallen. Clemson now #25
