Derozan (a) doesn't shoot threes, and (b) was born in the 80s.
The Spurs are pretty low on great shooters these days. Maybe why Pop doesn't give a shit that Simmons can't shoot.

I think dark horse candidates are OKC and Sacramento. If I was Sacto I'd offer D'Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield. OKC could offer Kemba, Dort and a boatload of picks.
Fox is a stud. Absolute stud and with Haliburton the Kings haven’t had this much to be excited about since C Webb and Bibby etc

Don't they play the same position? I like Halliburton a lot more than Fox.

So Liam Simmons has the same mom, different dad (was wondering how it was that he looked so different)
Liams are always the problem brothers

I think Simmons can be a valuable asset at the right position but what would that position be on the Blazers. if they trade CJ then Powell slides to the 2 spot. Simmons probably wouldn't make a good 3 with his shooting problems so that leaves playing him at center. OK - Now what becomes of Nurk?

I honestly don't know where he would fit in with the current roster sans CJ.

1. You forgot PF.
2. Why can't we just call Simmons and RoCo our forwards?
3. I still think he's best off the bench, but I doubt anyone signing his checks (or him) would be happy with that.

There are definite problems of where to put Simmons. But every team would have that. Maybe he needs to just go to some shitty team where they can build the team round him. He's still young.

It'd be funny if Houston made a play for him, after they stiffed Morey on the Harden trade.

Simmons had 13 assists last night

But at least half of these are him passing to a guy who ends up creating their own shot. Is there some home cooking going on here?

Averages 7.9 assists at home
Averages 6.0 on the road (in just 1 less minute)

Yeah -I thought about PF but RoCo seems to be a lock there. But that might be the best position for him, if not with the Blazers then some other team

So, we have several possible scenarios.

1) Re-sign Powell and swap CJ for Simmons.
2) Re-sign Powell and keep CJ.
3) Powell walks and we keep CJ.
4) Powell walks and we swap CJ for Simmons.

Imho, option one gives us a realistic chance to be better, options three and four don't, and option two is a long-shot based on who the new coach is.

After reading #3, I threw up a little.

The more I read about Simmons, the more I think he won't be happy and engaged as a center or PF. He wants to be the playmaker; wants the ball in his hands every time down the court. I don't think this would work with Lillard.

Another thing. People talk about just needing to fix the mental side of Simmons. I think the mental side is the hardest to fix. You can get over an injury with rehab. You can fix your mechanics with good instruction and practice. Fixing mental is really tough.

I am not sure that is a bad thing. Ben is very unselfish. If he shot it a lot it would be more of a problem. But having a 6'11" playmaker who is a PF and can pass over the top of defenders to whoever is open seems like a plus to me. Dame would still have plenty of opportunities to dominate the ball....if he really wanted to. As others have alluded to it all comes down to surrounding Ben with the right players....and a lot of movement.

Question?
If the new coach is Billups, Becky or MD70 and they were ask about do you want Simmons for CJ and some what do you think their position would be?
I would think during interviews they would be asked what kind of players do they need at each position to jive with their approach.

Question?
Why would SA allow Becky to leave if she's been groomed to replace POP? You'd think they would want here to stay?

Question? what does it mean when Dame say's publicly he wants more offense?

I wonder if we could see some kind of co-head coach situation with MDA and Billups or Hammon. I can't imagine MDA is going to coach for a lot longer. The dude is 70.

other question: who besides fans have said that she's groomed to be his replacement?

Thats a good point, not sure just seems to be the narrative since she is his #1 assistant and Udoka left also. Maybe she isnt and they both want different situation or she's not wanting to wait on POP.

I good friend of mine is a varsity basketball coach in New Hampshire. A couple summers ago a strength/conditioning coach asked to work out players at his gym. Nerlens Noel came in, was with Philly at the time, and said of Ben Simmons he is a good guy but does not listen to anyone. Won't let them coach him. Thought that was interesting, and going to make changing his shot/offensively ability a lot tougher if he is still uncoachable. Maybe he was humbled enough this week to change.

That's definitely the vibe that comes from him. Firing the shot coach (who helped him) only to hire his brother to help him (only to see his shot get noticeably worse). Not only that, his game hasn't improved *at all* in the 5 years he's been an NBA pro (4 if you take into account his rookie year was spent injured).
