That's definitely the vibe that comes from him. Firing the shot coach (who helped him) only to hire his brother to help him (only to see his shot get noticeably worse). Not only that, his game hasn't improved *at all* in the 5 years he's been an NBA pro (4 if you take into account his rookie year was spent injured).

So you are saying we have a chance......

I watched a doc of him coming up from HS and his move from Australia to LSU. It was a great Doc and seems to have a great relationship with his family and they seem very supportive and outspoken.

I heard a Philly sports radio host say Ben works hard a couple weeks up to the all star selection.
He said you cant let him handle the ball but he wants and wondered how Dame would feel about that?
The fans I guess have been real down on him for some time too. Philly is a tough place and maybe all he needs is a change.

I will say this.... Nurk had extremely low value when we traded for him. So low that Denver had to include a pick to get him off their team. He was considered a cancer and a diva.

Nurk might not be perfect, but his value is MUCH higher now than it was when we got him.

I think Dame can turn things around for Simmons and I'm willing to roll the dice. Even the current version is worth more than CJ, in my opinion.

Wow! This is a player in need of a major change of scenery, and a major makeover. Where there's smoke, there's fire. Stephen A. is very connected in Philly. Neil & Staff will have to vet Simmons bigtime! That being said, Dame is one of the best, if not the Best, leaders in the game. Simmons is obviously at a crossroads. If Simmons is wanting to change the course of his career to meet the expectations, I can't think of a better player to help him. But in no way do i think the Blazers should overspend for him in compensation.

I good friend of mine is a varsity basketball coach in New Hampshire. A couple summers ago a strength/conditioning coach asked to work out players at his gym. Nerlens Noel came in, was with Philly at the time, and said of Ben Simmons he is a good guy but does not listen to anyone. Won't let them coach him. Thought that was interesting, and going to make changing his shot/offensively ability a lot tougher if he is still uncoachable. Maybe he was humbled enough this week to change.
Boy, when Nerlens Noel says you're uncoachable... That's like Trump calling somebody a narcissist.

not questioning accuracy but how the hell do you have so many people in and around basketball/NBA? the spurs thing and now this?

agree, IMO we have to "roll the dice" and take a chance for the rest of Dame's prime. No other way, based upon what I can see as possible trades at this time, a CJ (and a bit) for Simmons seems our best roll of the dice.

Glad to know we are just making up shit now.
Here’s a video of him putting 40 on Gobert, playing as center.

Did you watch the highlights? Or look at the boxscore?

He "played center" in the way that he was the tallest guy on the floor? He still handled the ball most possessions, including bringing it up the court much of the game. Dwight Howard played 26 minutes, which means that the most Simmons would have played the 5 was 22 minutes.

he shot 71% from the line in the playoffs his first year. And he's been at 60+ his whole career until this one.

it's definitely possible.

keep going back to my doc rivers is trash idea. His teams don't practice, and he's on Stotts' level in terms of making adjustments. And while he talks up his players in the media, I don't think he really encourages guys behind the scenes (as evidenced by how quickly and easily he threw Simmons under the bus just moments after Game 7). All season long, whenever criticism was levied against Ben's lack of shooting, he pointed out Simmons' defense and passing. But the moment it actually cost him a playoff series, he did not hesitate to eviscerate him in public.

Simmons needs a guy who will give him some tough love. Needs someone who will empower him to shoot and be OK if he misses, because the potential is too great if he can figure it out. I don't even think he needs a three point shot-- just a floater/FT line jumper and he will be the perfect P&R release valve with Dame. Maybe send him down to Phil Beckner with Dame and lock him in a gym this whole summer.
He needs a Rick Barry running bank shot.

Like a layup/half hook. But farther out. I copied that when I was a kid when I couldn't get to the rim. It was money.

The phrase "feeding frenzy" springs to mind:

(I really hope that, wherever Ben Simmons is right now, he doesn't have the internet.)

Come on. All this encouragement will be great for his confidence.

Say what you will about Carmelo, but the guy works. And he's as experienced as they come. And he has a good rapport with everyone.

My point is, I think it's worth it to see if Dame and Melo can help get Simmons' head right. I'd take that chance.

+1

That's pretty damning.

I meant to say Dame, Melo, and Billups.

That’s been reported for years that he is a combative asshole with a shoddy work ethic.
I wouldn't want someone fitting that description in my office or on my basketball team.

Speaking of Ben Simmons polls there's this one on OLive

https://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/...immons-cj-mccollum-swap-vote-in-our-poll.html

The question is simply "Should the Blazers explore a trade for Ben Simmons?" Shockingly just over a third of the 2100+ people that have voted have voted "no". So the team shouldn't explore a trade for Simmons. That's crazy to me. A guy like Ben Simmons and we shouldn't even explore a trade?!? Some strange folks that are supposedly fans of our team.

Go listen to some of the bozos that call into the Chad and Travis show. Casuals who know basically zip about the NBA. It’s actually painful to listen to them stammer out their dumbass opinions.
