I re-listened to that Windy pod, and went back to what Fentress reported earlier... I don't think this is as much to do with Neil not wanting to trade CJ as much as it is the fit with Simmons. Recall, Fentress said people within the Blazers org see Ben as a guy who wants to be a PG primarily and Dame is best utilized on the ball as well (I 100% disagree with this notion) but it has at least some merit.

Combine this with my guess about the rumor of the small market team with interest in Simmons being Indy, I think a three way with the Pacers makes a ton of sense. A Harris-Sabonis-Embiid front court is a bit crowded while Sabonis would be a great fit here either with or without Nurk. I'm more intrigued by Simmons' raw talent on the defensive side but I think it could work.

I legit don’t care how, we just need to trade CJ for a needle mover that improves our team.

If Neil is really resistant towards bringing in Simmons (which I think would be idiotic), it might be worth engaging Indy in a potential three-way with Sabonis landing in POR. Or Toronto with Siakam. I know everyone wants Draymond, but prefer Sabonis/Siakam over Green.

I would love Sabonis or Siakim. I am pretty "meh" on Green.

OK i just listened to the pod (around the 25 min mark)

Q: Isn't CJ for Simmons the most logical outcome?
A: I'm not sure Portland makes that trade. Does Portland even want Ben Simmons? Obviously they're a poor defensive team and make a case that trading for a great defensive player makes sense on paper, but I'm not sure they want Ben Simmons. If they come to the decision that they want to trade CJ, they may be able to do something that makes more sense for their roster.

for fucks sake, Neil. How is it that he is so oblivious to the idea that a Dame-Simmons pairing is >>>>> Dame-CJ pairing? Could there be any better synergistic pairing?

Neil = idot = frozen stiff against taking risk = can't make a big deal

Portland is a nice little team that keeps making the Playoffs and Neil "found" CJ all by himself from a small school and just can't cut the umbilical cord. Of course there is no guarantee that this team is better with Simmons, but we know (and it's been proved year after year) that Dame/CJ are NOT making this team a contender.

Dame and CJ have only ever played under one coach. Let's wait and see what Chauncey can do instead of parroting the same narrative constantly in the middle of September.

Thats fair and makes sense. My fury at Olshey is almost boundless at the moment. Make the god damn trade Neil! His supposed “plan” is to lock us into mediocrity for the next decade apparently?!?! Nightmare fuel.
Curious: would you trade our last 8 seasons with the Suns last 8 seasons? There’s something to be said for a consistent winner even if you don’t win it all.

Is Indiana a small market? Indiana is a whole ducking state.

Indianapolis is media market #25 (the only market size ranking that matters). Portland is #21. If we're small market, then they definitely are.

I think that videos showed two distinct things.

1. Simmons was playing out of position and should be a PF/C instead of a PG.
2. Doc Rivers sucks as a coach.
Been long saying that Rivers is overrated, and a lot of these same issues he's having in Philly this year he had last year in LA, where he threw PG under the bus.

As far as PF/C, we'd obviously have some of the same issues here with Nurk on board, but our offense is a lot more guard-focused and Nurk works out of the high post already. And there are plenty of ways to stagger him and Ben if needed.

Doc is the most overrated coach I have ever seen. His only ring was when he had by far the most stacked team in the league. Anyone could have coached that team.

I think, though, the biggest issue is that they (Doc Rivers) didn't know how to utilize him if he's not touching the ball.

You saw how often the paint was clogged with the 76ers...no spread to the offense *at all*.

Most Championship teams have been stacked. You could say the same about the Bulls, Lakers, & Celtics. Just throw the ball out.

Yet another video supporting why we should go after Ben

This video shows exactly why, used correctly, Simmons would be so perfect for our team. It’s just painful watching days tick on and on with no trade. I basically just want Simmons traded at this point so either we get him (please god) or at least the ship has sailed. I hate this being stuck in Limbo and imagining “what if”?

On Mike Richmonds Locked on Blazers podcast Monday he basically said the Blazers roster is set and he doesn't expect a trade. He doesn't believe the Blazers are interested in offering CJ for Simmons. Although the Blazers are normally very quiet on their end when any trade discussions are happening, Mike says there would be more noise from Philly and Ben's agents if any of those talks were happening.

This aligns with Brian Windhorst reporting that its the Blazers who are not interested in a CJ for Simmons trade. Mike says there is a 98% chance the Blazers do not make a trade soon and 99% chance there will not be a Simmons to Portland trade.

Could be wrong, but Mike isn't that plugged in. He's been way off in these predictions before.

I feel like you’re setting yourself up for disappointment.

Plus the fact you don't make it known that you want one of your players gone. That hurts team chemistry and creates resentment. If Philly calls with a serious offer then things could change quickly. But like you say most people are not plugged in with Neil. These GMs are all playing liar's poker and they are not tipping their hand....if they are any good at their job.
