I've thought of a new comparison: think of Simmons as a giant Eric Snow, and Dame is Allen Iverson. And, of course, Larry Brown was Chauncey's mentor...
People will say that it's a different game now and that the three is so much more important but I actually think having three solid three point shooters on the court gives you enough spacing, if one of your guys who only scores at the hoop can get there on his own and is an athletic slasher. It just so happens Simmons does all of that.

I don't know for sure if Ben and Nurk would go well together but it's definitely worth trying out. As far as the Dame/Simmons fit... I'm sorry but if you can't see how good those two could be together I don't know what you've been looking at. If you are factoring in the fit with Nurk then I can definitely see it. If you question where Ben's head is at, I can't go there with you but I understand.

2:14 in this video is the play that makes me love the idea of Simmons on the Blazers. He starts at setting the pick, rolls hard and even tho the defense rotates to clog the middle - his court vision leads and pass leads to an uncontested layup. Now, do that starting further out with Dame initiating the pick and roll. Woof.

But he's a bum..... if you listen to some of the people here.

Anyone who says he is a bum is out of their mind, he is a great talent with some real issues which means he might be over-paid or a bad fit on some teams. I think he is a risk well worth taking - because if he works out given that we have Dame on this team... that's like a super-sized version of what Draymond used to be in the early GSW dynasty days with better individual defense.

Well, Shaq would probably (and rightly) disagree with that. Ben Simmons is not a great scorer, but he is certainly capable.
Okay sure, Shaq is the outlier. But he was scoring 27, 28 ppg... Simmons isn't even close to that.

It's hard to remember, but back in the aughts, people thought Ricky Rubio was going to make a huge splash in the NBA. Then he came over and gradually people started saying "he'll never be able to score enough to be useful". But turns out he can score. Like Jason Kidd before him, he turned into a respectable shooter. Maybe Simmons can have that kind of development.

That trade does make Philly better. Destroys Mempiss. The SimmonsStorm get there playoff destiny moved up from 2035 to 2030.
"Destroys" is too strong. I think it's pretty clear that Desmond Bane is going to be a wing starter for them sooner rather than later, and they drafted Ziaire Williams to be another one. As it stands they have a lot of very solid players (all of whom are jostling for too-little playing time) but only one star. This gives them a shot at another one and allows them to give a bunch of young players PT while Ja is still young.

The real question is would Presti give up his precious picks. I think he's gone mad and will only trade picks for more picks.

Sixers writers are coming around on this idea. The trade referenced here is simply CJ, a 2023 first round pick swap and our 2024 first for Simmons. We get to keep everybody else on the roster. That's from Philly... the B/R article they're referencing has other trades but this is the one they wanted to write about. That leaves us with an easy plug and play situation where CJ is out and Ben is in. The rotation:

Dame, Norm, RoCo, Simmons, Nurk, Nance, Ant, Nas, Snell and Zeller if Nurk shot 3-4 threes a game and made 1-1.5 on average he would be spacing the floor just as much as Brook Lopez does for Milwaukee. To be honest we'd be better off than the Bucks are without Ben taking the inefficient jumpers Giannis does. So our spacing could easily be as good as this year's championship team's was. Dame, Norm, RoCo, Nance and Simmons would be our death lineup. Our defense would be possibly the best in the league and we would not struggle to score.

What a change in tone a few weeks make. It goes from Lillard is definitely leaving and the Blazers won't get better than Simmons. To now the MSM narrative is the Blazers might not be willing to part with CJ for Simmons as they aren't sure he would pair well with Lillard making even a straight swap with picks sound out of reach for the Sixers. Amazing. Also, that better be a smoke screen from Olshey to drive down the price if he really thinks that he should be fired, directly into the Sun.

A CJ for Simmons deal should make Philly fans happy.

CJ in Philly will be just as good as he is now. Given the different situation, he could even see his stats improve. Simmons, OTOH, is a total crap-shoot. He might fit in great and make us better. He might be a terrible fit. He might render the whole thing moot by not wanting to be here and forcing another trade. Too make matters worse, Philly probably won't agree to a straight across deal. They will demand even more assets (that the Blazers can't really afford) just to assuage their ego.

To put it another way, the risk is all on our side. Yes, there is a possibly high reward. Do you feel lucky?

Sixers fans are beginning to come to grips with the reality that they aren’t going to get Dame, or likely any other All-Star for Simmons and are trying to gin up excitement for an eventual CJ trade:

Again, although fans of both teams would probably be okay with it (which is rare), we haven't heard any indication that EITHER GM would even consider it.

I think they would and I think there has been a lot of maneuvering on both sides to convince the other that they don’t need the other player.

If you want to get Dame a ring, we need to take a big gamble.

I didn’t say that they would. I have no idea how Morey and Olshey view this, other than believable reports that Morey wants Lillard instead. Don’t see that happening.

Agreed. Dame will almost certainly at least give us this season, and Simmons will be long traded by then. At most Morey could stock up on assets that he hopes he can flip for Dame next Summer. But that also makes a CJ-Simmons trade less likely because there's no way you can flip CJ for Dame!

I just see this as a trade that everyone but the GMs like, and the GMs would never do it in a million years.
