When you're a win now team, you just can't afford to do what you're talking about. This is the team that had the best record in the Eastern Conference last season they can't lay back for a year hoping that Dame or Beal ask out at the end of the season. Their fans wouldn't stand for it, their players wouldn't stand for it either. The CJ move makes them better than they were last season, just because of fit... he fills a need for them.Just to reiterate: Morey really wants Dame. He realizes Dame may not be available by the time he is forced to trade Simmons. But he believes that Dame WILL be available in the next year or so. Solution? Trade for a package that will be attractive to a rebuilding Blazers' team. Shit, this means he could trade Simmons to someone like OKC and just get a shit-ton of their picks back. But what it CERTAINLY means is that he WILL NOT trade Simmons for CJ, for two very good reasons:
1. If CJ is his asset, then there's no way he can trade for Dame when (he believes) Dame becomes available. The Blazers would not do that.
2. If he gives the Blazers Simmons, then that might buy more time for the Blazers before Dame asks out.
So... I believe that the only way Morey trades Simmons for CJ is if that's literally the only offer he's got. And we KNOW the Wolves are chasing Simmons hard, and we don't know if Olshey has even considered a CJ-Simmons trade.
No team in win now mode has taken a rebuilding package for an all star, in hopes that another team with a superstar will go into a rebuild in the near future and take that package plus more for their superstar. You realize after it's laid out that plainly how crazy it sounds, right? Morey has to take a win now piece or pieces when he trades Simmons. You're right he doesn't have to take them from us, maybe we're not even offering but he has to try and make his team better, not worse. If CJ is being offered and what we're offering makes the Sixers the best out of any of the offers they get, Morey will take our offer.
