What's the most you would give up for Ben Simmons?

I didn’t know that! He is worth the gamble I think. A bad season and you lose Dame, perhaps.

there are certaing things i dont like about cj mccollum (selfishness and no effort on defense) and i hope chauncey billups will change that, at least thats what hes been saying (ball movement & accountability on defense) and all it takes for cj mccollum to make that happen is will, nothing more, but with simmons is different, he needs will to start shooting the ball and he needs to improve his shoot, its much more difficult

cj mccollum gets criticized, but hes done nothing like ben simmons, so no-one will go ruthless mode on him

Shooting is by far the most easy to pick up skill. Defense requires extreme commitment and being in shape and to some degree intangibles around anticipation etc that is either instinctive or comes from many, many lived experiences. It also requires lateral quickness, speed and length which aren’t something you can develop. Simmons is absolutely elite at perimeter defending already and will only get better until he loses his quickness. Veterans tend to get better at defense if they work on it due to having seen more game situations, but rarely suddenly become great at it. However, many players including our new coach, became deadly shooters over time, because shooting is mostly mechanics.

Shooting is almost all mechanics with a dash of mentality thrown in. Defense is far harder to develop than say a 75% FT% which would make Simmons absolutely deadly. If he developed a 3pt shot and was next to Dame? What’s his ring size?

I’m not sure a Simmons for CJ trade makes Philly better. A Seth Curry and stuff for CJ would make them better sure but if they lose the best defender in the league in a trade for CJ, I don’t see how they get better right away.

He was actively campaigning for Gordon because Dame wanted Gordon. Dame still wants an athletic power forward. Simmons is an athletic forward. This still signals that Dame wants Simmons imo.

Sure, if Morey has convinced himself that nothing less than Dame will be a satisfactory return. But that's not an issue of "not getting a good offer", so much as an issue of "holding onto unrealistic expectations".

It's very circular logic to say "they haven't traded him because they haven't received good offers", and then also say "They clearly haven't received good offers because they haven't traded him".

ESPN+ Ben Simmons trades they would want to see.

1. Simmons to Sac for Hield, Haliburton and Bagley (I just want to point out that there is a rumor that Sac won't send Haliburton or Fox out in a Simmons deal)

2. Simmons, Maxey and 2 first rounders to us for Dame (Hell No!!!)

3. Simmons to us for CJ, Nas and a 2024 first rounder after we take the protection off of the Chicago pick (I'd do it)

4. Simmons to Chicago for LaVine and Derrick Jones Jr.

And do you honestly think that Olshey gives a damn what Dame thinks/wants?
I'm not sure Olshey's actions indicate that he does.

I know Dame wouldn't approve, but I love the thought of getting Davion Mitchell (he just seems to have that it factor) and Simmons is one of the guys that could make a lineup with Haliburton, Fox, and Hield work. They'd run like hell.

CJ & Sac pick to Philly
Simmons to Sac
Mitchell and Barnes to Portland.

We'd get much tougher and bigger, but offense would become more limited. For once rebounding and size would be a strength.

Lillard/Mitchell
Powell/Simons
Barnes/Little
Covington/Nance
Nurkic/Zeller
 
tricky one for CJ's new role and a little ironic as he's a name floating around as a potential trade partner.

he certainly wont get what he wants and simmons would be gone if he had some good offers

i assume hes gonna have to settle, but not for some terrible offer
 
Well if it would only cost CJ and a future 1st i would def do it.
Simmons doesn't mean we will win it all etc but i think its the way to go as currently I do not think we are good enough to be a contender.

It's possible our floor drops if he doesn't improve etc, but it's also raising our ceiling considerably. We would be getting the best defender in the league and a great playmaker. I don't think we will mess something good if we trade CJ. We know our limitations with him and since we don't have assets to get a proven winner like Kawhi etc i would gamble on Ben.

This didn't really say anything. He pretty much mumbled Portland after Minny Cleveland and San Antonio but also said they have talked to most every team in the league. Seems like ESPN making talk just to keep the story relevant.

No, but the market dictates the value. If he’s realistically willing to sit out, then, yeah you kinda have to trade him for *anything*.

The issue is *anything* is getting less and less by the day and the 76ers (and possibly you?) don’t see seem to understand that. The longer Ben is with them, the LESS they get.

My guess is that they thought some trades would be on the table “no matter what.” But those trades are no longer (or never were) available.

Your definition of “anything” is “crumbles” because they, as an organization, royally screwed the pooch and now are in disaster mode.

Also, the 76ers don’t even want him and are acting like they do. (Go read the reports — they both hate each other.) This tanks value further.

To answer your final question, if Dame was on the trading block for *3 months* and Simmons was our best offer, wasn’t going to play OR show up, then yeah I’d trade him. Especially if it was reported around the league that virtually everyone has made an offer and Morey has essentially countered with fantasy land trades AND we didn’t want Dame back for some reason (would make the scenario more apples to apples). Once again, no one said take the very first offer and run. It’s been months. Everyone knew what was coming in June.

I kind of disagree on all fronts but of course I am a long ways removed from this.
As a fan I don’t want him here. The longer this drags out I feel more and more fans will sour on the guy.
My feeling on this is it helps both sides to have him show up and make an effort. His value increases and his prospects for a trade improve.
Simmons is backing himself into a no win situation.
On the other hand. The Lakers love drama so maybe there is a chance they buck the league and work a deal some how?
I certainly don’t want that kind of drama here?
