Aside from not pointing out some of the other areas that are pros (as @Orion Bailey pointed out....PnR elite level and post up ability), there is also not enough credit given to his pros.

Simmons has averaged more Assists/game in his career than Dame.
Simmons is one of the top defenders in the entire NBA and one of the most versatile.

That certainly does not dismiss the Cons, but the Pros need more weight IMO. As for playing off the ball, Dame hasn't exactly shown a big growth arc in that area either. He tends to stand after he give is up in comparison to Curry who immediately goes into move/cut mode.

I don’t think I was minimizing his P&R ability because it becomes more of a redundancy. We already have an elite P&R guy, one that actually isn’t afraid to look for his shot. And getting Ben would mean that guy would have to play off the ball. For $30M I’d want more than a guy that ran the second unit. There are better fits out there that could potentially become available that wouldn’t require as much compromise.

Sorry, but Dame and CJ are far more redundant in pretty much every aspect of the game than Dame and Ben would be.

Who do you think would be available that's better?

Based on what we saw last night, maybe Harrison Barnes...

im not against trading CJ, but I don’t think Simmons should be the target.

I’d wait and see how Barnes develops in Toronto. Maybe one of OG/Siakam become available. Both would be better fits than Simmons to me. Jerami Grant is another one. I’m sure I can come up with more, that’s just off the top.

I’d also wait and see how our own team develops under Billups first. No one is trading before December anyway.

It's not often that a superstar level player is available. When they are, you make an effort to acquire them and figure out the fit later. Waiting on hypotheticals of who may or may not be available is useless. If Ben doesn't workout, you can always move him. By then, he'd have raised his value from where it is now.

Ben Simmons isn’t a superstar level player.

the point being stars don’t become available often? Seems they become available yearly.
We don't haven't many years left to wait. How many will be available for CJ? How many have been traded for a package we could match without gutting the team?

It's getting to the point that we need to strike when it's hot.

I’m all for trading CJ like I said, I just think we can do better than Simmons. And even if we make that trade, it’s gonna come with a lot of risk. It’s not as foolproof as some make it out to be imo.

I have not read one person say its foolproof. Maybe no brainer, far from foolproof…

So glad to see Klutch look like idiots for their hold out demands. It was an anticipatory breach of contract and allowed the 6ers to legally hold his Oct 1st pay in escrow.

If they hadn't said those statements he could've got his 8 million check first then hold out.

I'm also enjoying Morey having an asset lose value. He overplayed his hand with Dwight Howard, wasn't able to trade him for anything, and Howard walked for nothing.

I hope all sides lose in this drama.

Amen! If this is the new business model for the NBA the fans are the ultimate losers.

I think, what Morey is really hoping is that Simmons will give him another excuse to suspend him. Can't do it if Simmons is claiming his back is hurt

Ben Simmons isn’t a superstar level player.
If he’s not he’s borderline, look at current players is Curry or Dame superstars even though they are only good on one side of the game? Simmons is superstar defensively he’s a top 2 defensive player in entire NBA. You don’t have to like the guy but he’s superstar

VORP (2020)
Curry: #3
Lillard: #5
Simmons: #38

DRPM
Simmons: #31

Now I realize defensive metrics are flawed, but Simmons definitely isn’t a top 2 defensive player, and when it comes to overall value he’s not in Dame and Curry’s zip code. I’d say he’s a top 10 defensive player, and a top 20 overall player at best. That’s not a superstar.
