remember "Spankys" (which became Spunkys) burgers? Jamie's (1950s style chain) Hot n Now...those were the days!

I remember when those first came out, you could get 4 hamburgers for a buck. Then they switched to Spunkys and basically went under soon after.

Not to alter the discussion, but when we say "Best Burger", what kind of burgers are we talking about? There are the "gourmet" variety, with unusual topping and flavorings and there are the more traditional type. Lately, I've been really digging the more traditional type, something closer to sliders. Fewer ingredients, but those ingredients stand out. Don't get me wrong, I love something like a bacon, pepper jack, guacamole, green chile burger, but at some point you lose the essence of the burger itself.

Oddly enough, one of the best sliders I've had was at Buffalo Wild Wings. $4.50 for three of them during happy hour.

There's a little dive bar & grill in downtown Milwaukie that has a bacon cheeseburger that drips off your elbow. Add deep fried tater tots and one can actually feel their arteries harden while they eat- my kind of food!

Mike's Drive in?

the problem is usually those are thinner patties and they tend to cook them medium-well or so. They're more old school for sure and they do fill a need. I'm a fan of the gourmet burger...and my favorite burger type is the "hawaiian burger".

I'd like to propose Giant Burger on Boones Ferry in Lake Grove.

Wanker's Corner? I ate a burger there kind of forgot how it was though.

I don't think it exists anymore, but Foothill Broiler on SW Burnside was good spot.

yeah. My review on it from yelp:

I came here for lunch one day. It was a decent burger, but nitpicking, I found a few things wrong with it. For references sake, I had the "Winter Slow Burger" which I believe had some bacon and blue cheese on it.

The first thing that was wrong was that my burger was a tad underdone. I had requested medium rare and the burger came out more rare than I am used to. The texture of the burger in contrast to the bun didn't really work for me. Tastewise, it was a tad salty, but I attribute most of that to the blue cheese, but even for the blue cheese burger it was a salty.

The second thing I really didn't like was the bun. For some reason, the bun did not seem that fresh, it was a bit tough..the bun itself was pretty fluffy but the outside of the bun was a bit tougher than I imagined. It made for an extreme contrast in textures.

The fries were good though.

When the season is over, we will have the "THE" meet and greet at Stanich's!

Don't forget, the original location is still on McGloughlin in Gladstone. :)

I think my calling it the "meat and greet" trumps this... :dunno: But Stanich's is okay too I guess:cheers:
