We're going down this weekend and will be staying in one of the Ester Lee cottages in Lincoln City. Older place, but supposed to be pretty nice.

Which got me thinking........where have you stayed at the coast that has been better than usual?

Thanks!

Ugh. I hate Cannon Beach/Seaside. Just too crowded.

We stayed in a rental house in Waldport:

This place absolutely rocked. No tourists, except the people in houses nearby. Right on the beach. Fantastic. We've been there two summers now. Not too far from Lincoln City, Depot Bay and Newport. They even let us bring two dogs!

A full week for $1400. It was me and the wife, our two kids, and two other adults. Plenty of space. Pretty tough to house that many people/pets on the beach for that price.

My favorite spot on the coast is south of there a few miles. Strawberry Hill. Kind of a non-descript little pulloff. But hike down to the bottom at low tide and you'll see a ton of seals and awesome tidepools, plus some sand.

Yachats is pretty cool. Lots of hiking and some stellar tide pools.

I've stayed in the same area, a few hundred yards from the beach. VERY quiet, VERY reasonable, and VERY VERY fun.

2 years ago we stayed in Neskowin - it was fantastic. Last year we stayed in Pacific City, which was nice too, but not as nice. This year we are trying a rental house near Newport.

$200/day seems pretty steep.

8 guests, 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, 6 dining seats.
1 - King
2 - Queen
1 - Sofa Sleeper - Queen
Parking: 4 vehicles in driveway.
Beach Access: Right outside your door
2 Large wood burning fireplaces

If you are going with another a couple and splitting the cost $200 per night seems pretty fair. Next summer when I make my annual trip up there I'm going to keep this place in mind. Thanks Mook!

Book it early. We barely got in when we booked in March for a stay in late July.

Hmmm. I just realized I made it that much harder to stay there. Oh well, I don't want to go to the same place three years in a row.

Next summer it's Costa Rica! (if money allows).

actually, 200 a day is pretty reasonable, considering some cabins in the mountains or on lakes can run about 3000 a week.

Yachats is good if you get a house with the beach as your backyard. We did that once and it was awesome.

Cannon is okay, but getting more crowded.

Manzanita is nice..kind of its own little space.

It really depends upon what you're going to the coast for! Relaxation? Entertainment (gambling)? Fishing?

I'm sorry..is that a walk-in tub?

Cannon is the best.

Maybe not best, but it's up there...

Heh, that kind of reminds me of that old NBC mystery trilogy show. What was it.....McCloud, McMillan & Wife, and Columbo? Classic, classic stuff, right there. :ghoti:

Damn. The more this thread goes along, the more it sounds like the site of a 1970's porn film.

And actually, it's not a bad setting for one.

(To answer your question, though, yeah you can walk into it.)

I have every Colombo video. Great stuff.

Love the coast so much we bought a little beach house just south of Lincoln city and we stay there about every other weekend.

ABM... pst if you are interested in stopping by for BBQ or grabbing a beer at McMenamins on Sat... will be down there.

Just pm'd you. :)

My favorite place is at a friends family's house in Manzanita only a block off the main street. Manzania is a cool little town/city with lots of neat shops and a pub on the main strip.

I am also a fan of staying at the Inn at Cape Kiwanda in Pacific City. It's across the street from one of my favorite brewery's, Pelican. YUMMY brew!

Well, we've been down here for a few hours. Clouds breaking nicely....wow, sizing up for a beautiful sunset! Looks like Tidal Raves in Depot Bay for dinner tonight. Gonna take my wife to Sharks Seafood Bar in Newport tomorrow night for her birthday dinner.

Ciao!

If you get down to Yachats, try the Adobe. Really good restaurant in a hotel (of the same name) with fantastic ocean views.

Well if you want to get some good salmon fishing in, a beach near Astoria would be the best.

I stayed Gearhardt this summer. Beaches were clean and not crowded . . . and the fishing was fantastic.

If you need the name of a good guide (you will limit out), let me know.

Simply put, one of the best meals I've had.......................ever! Outstanding Depoe Bay ocean view to boot!

Shrimp/Cheese concoction on toasted foccacia Bread
Shrimp Salad
Crab Casserole w/sautéed veggies
Dead Guy Ale
