In the scenario that LMA really does want out, and the Blazers are open to sign and trade options, what are some of the possible S&T deals we could work out with the most likely suitors that he wants to go to?

Dallas
San Antonio
LA
Houston

Are there other potential teams that he'd like? NY?

A sign and trade only will happen if it's a team with no cap space. Otherwise there's no incentive for the other team.

LA and their pick is the obvious choice.

But they don't need to trade anything when they have the cap.

HOU lacks assets.

As does SAS.

Could the incentive be that they also move out salary and leave room to make another big FA signing?

If Aldridge is leaving, I think our only entertainment could be Aldridge for Splitter and Green. Spurs are the only team that is the destination without significant cap space.

For example, if they put togther a package with #2, Randle and Lin, they clear out a lot of room.

The Lakers have enough room to keep Randle, #2 and Lin, then sign Aldridge outright. They would still have enough space to grab a mid tier free agent as well. Or they could use Randle, Lin and #2 to grab boogie, sign Aldridge outright and get the mid tier free agent

I absolutely hate this shit. If last year, Aldridge instead of telling people he would stay, had said nothing and made it internally clear he wanted to leave, we would have gotten so much more leverage. Now we get these shit S&T ideas.

If he actually does find the guts to leave, I will never forgive him.

That Dallas roster is also full of crap, nothing remotely interesting to engineer a S&T for. Gah.

The only team remotely willing to do a sign and trade would be the Spurs. Our only asset would be Tiago and Danny Green for Aldridge.

Yeah if this is true he totally fucked Portland. I hope nobody says goodbye in that case. I don't care what princess Aldridge has done in his career here.

Yeah yeah, I'm just processing what possible ways we can salvage value for LMA. The only way an LA sign and trade would happen is if LMA insisted so that he could get the extra year and $$$ for his final big contract.

That option isn't available any longer.

It doesn't work that way anymore. Sign and trades don't transfer the extra year. It changed. That's why nobody is talking about them.

Damn, sorry guys. I need to learn the game and then post. So there is really no incentive. So long LMA.
As I stated above. Only the Spurs would entertain a sign and trade because they would most likely want to keep the core together. If they do, then they would require the sign and trade to get LMA so they avoid gutting their roster to get him.

Splitter and Green for Aldridge would be our only hope imo.

Yup. Not unless he wants to go to a team with no cap space.

There is incentive, but only if the team LMA wants to go to doesn't have the cap space to sign him outright.

LMA has to want to go and sign the contract in the first place.

The other team has to send back enough salary to balance the trade, as usual.

Three team trade possible, etc.

Spurs were trying to get rid of Splitter. What if they used Splitter and sign and trade Danny Green for Aldridge? That actually works cap wise.

Green has to want to come here and for how much?

Splitter at 9 million is OK. We will need some D help. But is he that much better than Joel Freeland if not in a SA uniform?

Green wants a big contract , not sure we want to spend our cap space on him. Again how good is he when not in the SA system?

I agree with Denny that there is some incentive if he wants to go to a club without cap space and that would include just about all the attractive destinations except Los Angeles and I'm not sure that would be a really attractive destination. They have an over the hill Kobe and a high draft pick. If I was LMA, I would be trying to get to Cleveland. They have James and Irving. And i think Cleveland would want him very bad; they would vastly want him over Love. Would Love want to come to Portland? He might be willing to opt in in Cleveland for one year and consent to a trade to see if he likes it in Portland. But would the Blazers want to do that?

I think it's interesting that Love opted out. The smart move would be play out his contract and sign the massive deal next summer. I think it's a good sign that he wants out of Cleveland.

Cleveland. But I want Tristan Thompson more than Love, so Cleveland would have to have another S&T worked out for Love.

He's show some interest in Boston in the past, but they are in super-rebuild mode. I wonder if Portland w/o LA just became a lot more interesting to him?
