I was honored to be a volunteer for Brian Grant's amazing event filled weekend. The amount of Great/Legendary people that came out to support him and his cause is unsurpassed by any event Portland ever sees. The huge support was a testament to Brian's character. It's unfortunate the NBA couldn't see past themselves to let current players attend, but nonetheless is was a success.

Sinbad launched the program with his signature brand of sarcastic humor. Portland culture, bike lanes, rescue dogs and public transportation were given a comedic twist as the crowd roared with laughter. Barkley wasn’t safe from the clever funny-man either, as Sinbad chided the former all-star and current TNT commentator from top to bottom.

P.J. was a really nice man, drove him around. Great guy to shoot the bull with. Would love to have him as a Blazers assistant, hear he's looking for work.

Brian Grant kept things simple. He didn't go out of his way to ask the League to allow an exemption for current players and staff to attend. They were reluctant to come because they felt uncomfortable taking the risk of saying something wrong and getting a million-dollar fine.

So now the League says, we didn't turn him or them down. Nobody ever asked.

Rudy LaRusso, a 5-time all-star with the Lakers in the 1960s, died from Parkinson's Disease 3 weeks ago. Oregon State athletic director Bob De Carolis was diagnosed a week ago. My mother died from it a decade ago. Joey Harrington broke his collarbone when a car hit his bike the day he was going to play in the charity golf tournament.

One guy I couldn't miss (you can hear him coming from a mile away) Mike Rice, caught my attention in the parking lot, blabbering away with some NBA great's about his scarred up knee's.
