Good pick. Her prosecutorial record is mixed, even though she's portrayed as "conservative." She's done things that helped the police force and things that went against their interests. But she's moved firmly to the left, running on Medicare For All and police reform as a Presidential candidate. I think she has the right mix of charisma and policy to be a good running mate and future Presidential candidate herself.
Sure, she ran on Medicare for All, until she didn't. Do you think she still supports it? Or did she give up on it because it's not what the establishment wants?

NEW: Wall St. execs are cheering on the choice of Kamala Harris as Joe Biden's running mate. Signum Global told clients moments after the pick that they should rest easy on the idea of Biden sprinting too far left.

It is quite telling when Wall St. is happy that a democrat won't drift too far left. It means that Biden is right-leaning enough on their issues for them. In other words: They own Biden.

I think she supports it in the way Obama supported a public option--it's what she'd like ideally, but if she can't get it, she'll take what she can get. Some people call that caving, but I view it as being an effective public official--when dreams run into reality, it's good to keep advocating for the dream, but it's also important to take the Obamacare you can actually get.

In some ways, Sanders not winning the nomination might be the best thing for Sanders and his most ardent supporters (and I say this as someone who preferred Sanders to Biden)...they'll never have to see him give in on his priorities because Congress won't pass them. I want the Sanders agenda, but I always understood that the Sanders agenda can't pass a Congress who's median is to the right of even Joe Biden's agenda. I think a lot of Democrats want things that aren't politically feasible...you can either "stand strong" and get nothing or compromise on the vision and keep moving things in the right direction, even if only incrementally. Obamacare was pilloried by liberals when it happened, but it's moved the Overton Window on health care--with Obamacare now the status quo, an outright majority of the American public believes that universal access to health care is a reasonable right. That was never the case prior to Obamacare. So did Obama betray the left by helping to push through a bill that didn't even have a public option (which he advocated for when campaigning) or has he done the left and America a big service? You can look at it either way, but I'm firmly in the camp of getting as much done as possible even if that falls short of what we'd ideally want.

No surprise. It was always going to be Kamala

I agree with this for the most part. But even if Bernie had to cave/compromise to get some type of incrementally better healthcare plan done, I don't think he ever would have stopped saying that universal healthcare and taking on the insurance and pharmaceutical industries was what we need. I doubt Harris will keep saying what she said during her campaign. I'd like to be surprised.

If she stops advocating for better things, like the things she campaigned on, yes, I'll be disappointed in her.

Smart move by Joe...I thought it would be Rice but Harris has been solid addressing the incompetence of the current administration..she'll help Joe quite a bit in my view...Mike Pence is a ghost figure who when tasked with heading the virus team just yup yupped Donny's denial until it's too late...can't wait to see those two get the boot in November..what a horrible chapter in presidential history...let Trump take a long vacation to Thighland
Rice was my first choice but Harris is my second choice.
As a friend of mine once said, Biden could pick a lamp post and still swamp Trump.
Biden was my fourth choice but tell ya what, this is a ticket I can support all out.

By the way... that pic makes Harris look tougher than Trump on crime.

Republicans going soft? I can't remember the last time I heard one complain about a cop arresting a 6 year old girl. :devilwink:
This guy is a republican who for over a year now has been saying we need police reform and accountability for cops and DA's. - He is not for abolishing the police -
