Biden's Education Department will immediately wipe out out student loan debt for 40,000 borrowers and bring 3.6M Americans closer to ending payments by promising to fix 'longstanding failures' in forgiveness scheme that hit low-income students
  • Education Secretary Miguel Cardona called the current student loan system a 'life sentence' for millions of low-income borrowers in a Tuesday statement
  • The actions taken by Cardona's department will make nearly 4 million Americans eligible for at least some student loan debt relief, the DoE promised
  • The Education Department also accused student loan servicers of predatory 'forbearance steering' practices rather than giving borrowers a better option
  • It says servicers are inappropriately leading borrowers into forbearance when many could be eligible for $0 payments under income-based repayment plans
  • Roughly 41 million people collectively own $1.6 trillion in U.S. student loan debt
  • Progressive Democrats including AOC want to swipe all student debt
  • Biden has extended the freeze on payments during the pandemic

They're probably gonna do way more right before the midterms.

Dangling that carrot.

Half the country still can’t get sick or go to the doctor without being financially ruined for life, so let’s forgive some college debts that were taken on completely voluntarily. We’ll even make the people swamped in medical debt pay for it.

So, Medicare for all?

Blue collar bailing out white collar.

You'd think 13 years of Public Education would have prepared students for the very basic math and logic which would have easily prevented 100% of them from borrowing a fortune for a worthless degree that so obviously would never provide a career with enough income to pay off the loan.

Most people were just born/raised with that common sense even before a formal education. After all, it's not rocket science.

BTW, rocket science is one of those career fields actually worth getting a degree for.

So you support obamacare since it implemented a ban on lifetime benefit limits so health insurance companies can't tell you to fuck off after using up too much benefit?

Right on!

You mean Romneycare?
Obamacare had a few “key points” that sounded good as their selling points. You can’t advertise a turd as a turd and sell it. Overall it was a travesty though.

It was like any other American Bureaucratic scheme: Steal from the working class, say you’re giving it to the poor and give the overwhelming majority of it to the rich.

So you dont think having a lifetime benefit limit is good? It does just what you said, makes it so people can't be denied coverage because it costs too much for things like a car accident, children born with disabilities, etc. Etc.

My daughter broke her hand. Got an x-ray at urgent care and a brace. $175. Referred to ortho for review.

Doctor looked at arm looked at x-ray from urgent care, said take it easy for 3-6 weeks and left room. Total of about 5 minutes. Billed us $850 for "surgery".

Obamacare is shit. It's less shitty than what we had before, but it's absolute dog shit.

That's fraud

Looking at schools for my daughter right now….. the 5 schools who want her and she wants are all right at about $70,000/year.

SIGH……

That's not solely an Obamacare problem. Thats a health insurance and medical industry problem.

If you got in a car accident or had a disabled child that had to spent 2 months in NICU, you would be saying a completely different tune if it wasn't for Obamacare.

It's great to support your kids, but don't let her do it. Best situation that gives her a full ride she should take. It isn't worth it for her to put you or her in debt like that. One day she will probably inherit everything you and mom has along with your son. This decision affects her and your family a ton.

I know you're a great dad and will support her no matter what.

Again, I already said it's less shitty. But it's still a pile of dogshit.

That should be illegal.

$50 per mg ibuprofen in the hospital. That's dogshit.

I know it is an improvement over the absolute trash we had before. Just enough of an improvement for us to settle on eating dog shit for another few decades.

It's disgraceful.

No it's not, unfortunately. We already tried. Insurance company didn't care, we're on the hook.
Since he is a surgeon his time is billed as surgery.

Thanks Obamacare! Fucked in the ass just like before Obamacare.

But it's okay. We have Obamacare, so I should just be thankful.

Again. Obamacare isn't to blame for that. Blame the health care industry.

That’s what’s so funny about Obamacare. It’s so clearly and obviously legislation intended to protect and enrich the corrupt medical industry. Instead of addressing and fixing the exorbitant price gouging, the government instead FORCED the entire population to participate in it at the threat of penalty. It’s blatant extortion and corruption disguised as ‘coverage for all’. Romney would be proud. After all, corporations are people too.

So much so they told insurance providers they no longer can put a cap on how much benefit they provide.

My daughter is a senior this year so we are really looking at college options. she has decided on Arizona. She has an academic scholarship that will pay her tuition all four years so fortunately we will only be on the books for room and board. She should have enough other scholarships to cover that the first year at least and hopefully more after that. She also will have 28 college credits when she graduates from High School. We are trying all options so she can avoid any loans during her undergrad programs.

Nor does the healthcare provider have to put a cap on what an aspirin costs, a much larger problem. Everyone knows the insurance companies will make billions in profit regardless if there’s caps on coverage or not, the amounts being payed in are off the charts. It’s a small and insignificant bone they threw us with that clause in the legislation, glad you thought it tasted so good.

It isn't insignificant at all. It has been a benefit for a lot of families. How long does it take to rack up $1 million in healthcare benefits? Not long at all, especially if you have a disability, get in a car wreck, have to have surgery etc.

The bigger issue is healthcare for all. Which I 100% support.

Oh I do. But Obamacare is honestly a kick in the teeth for anybody who supported Obama. The very minimum would be Obamacare with the public option.

Not admitting Obamacare is a steaming pile of dogshit compared to what other first world countries get is doing a disservice to the goal of improving our healthcare system, IMO.

Awesome! Any tips on getting the academic scholarship? My eldest is a sophomore and is carrying a 4.025 GPA and a full load of honors and AP classes. Not really sure what else we can do to help her cause...

She's also a pretty good basketball player. Been varsity since freshman year, but she's only 5'3"... So yeah...
