He's talking about the offseason. We'd only have to send out like 4m to get Noel.

We have to sign him to keep him though right? Or whats the point?
What would his max be? Im not sure for a new guy like him. Maybe it isn't as far off from Crabbe's salary than I initially thought?

with the estimated cap 25.5 I think

Thats too much. That wont allow us the flexibility to go get one more guy like Ibaka.

Fucking money rules everything. So sad. Yeah 20-30 mill is alot to you and me, but when you are ALREADY GETTING PAID 3 times that????
Give the FANS a break for once and chase a ring, not money...
Fuck....

Our record is not indicative of such a thought. Sorry.

Let me ask you this. You think a lineup of:

Dame/CJ/Harkless/Aminu/Chandler is gonna compete with Curry/KD/D.Green/K.Thompson/ZUZU

Lets break down a few teams and do a starting 5 comparison.

Portland vs Cleveland

Dame>Irving(debatable)
CJ>Korver
Harkless<LBJ
Aminu<Love
Chandler
>Thompson

Portland VS Clips

Dame< CP3
CJ
>Reddick
Harkless>A Moute(debatable)
Aminu<Griffin
Chandler<Jordan

Portland vs SA

Dame> Parker
CJ>Green
Harkless<Kawhi
Aminu<LMA
Chandler<Gasol

Now do you see the trend there?
Other than Thompson being a bit of an anomaly, Even if we get Chandler, we have not improved the position enough to be equal or better than the contenders out there right now. He is on a rapid decline and will make big money next year. Its a short term rental that doesnt move the needle enough to be competitive with the best. We will truly tie our hands up and still not go far.
We're probably never going far because the Blazers will never stop developing the core. Keep the team young, build out of the draft never though a big trade to get a good veteran, and have an age limit. We'll just be a development team for the big teams in the NBA.

The Blazers are over the LT next season before making any (expected!) moves. Trading an $18.5M contract for even another one, or a player who gets at least $18.5M next season to renew, doesn't change that reality.

Meyers could help them a lot if he could just consistently knock down a couple 3's a game, get a couple buckets near the hoop and grab 6+ boards a night on a regular basis. Not too much to ask from a 7'1", athletic center who can shoot but it's not something Meyers has shown he can do.....yet.

Well in a new system he may well be able to become what he failed to become here...but I don't know if the Bucks or anyone will want to take the chance he may just be a lame duck

OK, this player is a second season Project, with a capitol P.
But he has the rim protecting and defensive skills we lack.
Raw on offense
He is not getting playing time, and might be had cheap, maybe.

Just throwing another name into the hat to discuss, not sure if or who I would trade for him.

Willie Cauley-Stein

I'd pass. Never stood out to me when he's played against Portland. Maybe he needs a different team but he comes off as super beta on the court. Meyers level timid.

I really liked him in the 3 games he played against us last year. 12/7/4 blocks, 13/14, and then 9/5/3 blocks. Energy big in a similar fashion to chandler. Great buy low opportunity potentially.

Project players are an excellent choice for development teams. Good show sir!! I'm sure by the time Cauley-Stein reaches his peak Lillard Will be on his way to one of the big market teams in the NBA. The Blazers will then be set to develop another core of players!

I feel you... Buuuuuut you have to have Dave Chappelle like integrity to turn away millions. I'm not even sure that I have that type of principle. 50 million? Damn... I might shuck and Jive for 50 million!

Would you still be saying that if you had 100 million in the bank and new that if you took the other 50 you greatly reduce your odds of a ring?

$100 mill and a ring
$150 mill and no ring.

I thought these guys had desire and passion like no other on the planet to win?

And this shows the primary and glaring flaw of the NBA today.

that sucks for you that you thought that type of thing was still happening

last time that ACTUALLY happened was prolly the shaq and penny days, I guess it kinda happens now but its just guys taking cuts to join bron, or the spurs. KD prolly thought he was doing that by joining the warriors but the way that went down was different fer sure.

Not that I thought it was happening. Just fed up with it not happening anymore...
I get it and understand the opposition. Doesn't mean I have to agree or like it.
Its lame for the game.

No sane person is going to give up $50,000,000 for a slightly better chance, but no guarantee, to win a championship. Sorry.

But I hope Paul Allen does. ;)

He might be more loose with the money if the seachickens win another super bowl...

Again. Its much easier to give up $50 mill when you already have $100 mill.

If you are like us, hell yeah you take the money all day. But these guys are already multi millionaires. At what point does money equate to boredom because you have plenty and no desire to do anything else?

These guys got where they are at because they want to be the best. I don't think $50 mill changes that mindset when you know you already have $100 mill.

Again. I know I am wrong, but I'm trying to think with common sense, not an inflated wallet.

once you have money, all you can think about is getting more of it

That would be a pretty significant sum in relation to gross wealth. Just not going to happen. Now if you're an owner who may be worth $20-30 Billion, it's not so much, particularly since the value of the overall investment is continuing to appreciate, and it could be argued would appreciate more with a championship.
