Guns aren't solving violence ...they are being used for rage by citizens and by cops....it's that ugly conversation nobody likes to have....get the guns off the streets...they are not helping anyone...they are not protecting people, they are escalating violence and I say this as a guy who owns two of them

It's horrifyingly depressing and sick... The political game here IMO is this.
The right: Tries to paint all of this as happening in Democratic ran states / Cities. That the destruction/riots are being caused by left-leaning individuals who are attempting to terrorize and blackmail the country into voting for Biden because they won't stop unless they get their way with elections and more left-leaning government policies. No justice, No Peace is a literal threat to average Americans that if they don't do what the protestors demand of them that they may just in fact be a casualty of no peace.
Oh, and Trump would stop it but the Democratic states/cities won't allow him too. - I have quite literally seen many 'right' leaning news sources call for violence against the rioters - It's screwed up...
The left: These riots/protests are because of Republican policies with policing. That anyone who isn't completely aligned with the protests is racists and bigots. That we can't and will never have peace with Trump or Republicans in power. Electing Biden will slow down protests and such because people will be happy, 'again', and establish a more 'friendly' atmosphere from the oval office. - I have seen left-leaning people call for violence against people who don't want to go along with them too. -

The whole thing is just... Well, it's going to get worse before it gets better. I think we might already be in the beginning stages of another civil war. People on all sides have been dehumanized (and I don't mean political sides), I mean, race, sex, gender, political affiliation, on and on down the line we've expanded our labeling to the point that we can slap a label on someone rationalize how that makes them less important than ourselves and go from there.

We've already seen skyrocketed violent crime this year. When a cop gets knocked out or killed by protestors, a lot of people just see a guy who probably deserved to die, die, because he was a cop, and therefore something less than human. When a protestors or rioter gets shot you see a bunch of people cheer on the people who shot him because protestors are somehow less than people...

Just truly screwed up where we are at and how little we think of people... Biden and Trump don't have the means to fix it, Trump sure hasn't done much to fix it now. The damage has been done.

I don't really disagree with what you say here. For myself, I don't consider these "Republican policing policies" so much as a policing monster that both parties enabled over the years. I think now Democrats are somewhat more willing to consider some changes to it, but both parties bear the blame for its creation.

it's that ugly conversation nobody likes to have

What are you talking about? People love to have this conversation. We have it constantly. Nary a day goes by without this conversation. It's a conversation that goes round and round and round.

I agree virtually 100%. That said, I believe beyond a doubt that civil war is EXACTLY what Donald Trump is attempting to incite. Then he....and only he.......can step in and “save” us from the chaos.....and become a permanently installed “Dear Leader”. And Putin is doing everything he can to help that become a reality. Anyone who tries to say that Trump is trying to unite this country is as morally bankrupt (Or just plain stupid) as he...and his administration.....are.
I agree with this but when businesses think they are going to lose All they've worked for not by protestors but those bent on destruction and burning things down and the police and political leaders standby and do nothing it spawns anarchy.
If this is war now, you cannot tolerate looting or guns in the street. I don’t see any leadership stepping up
And condemning the violence.

And that includes Donald Trump. I can’t help but wonder how things would go if Trump stood up and said, “We feel your pain. We understand that systematic racism exists, and these are the things (point by point) we are going to do to change things for the better.” Instead, he condemns, insults and physically assaults them. He is the supposed leader of this country and he has none absolutely nothing to step up and quiet the waters. The worse the protests become and the longer they go on plays right into his hands. He does not truly want them to end because they inflame his base to his advantage. He is an instigator, a cheerleader for racists and bigots of all stripes. It is his job to at least TRY to represent ALL of us. He has made it very clear that he is not only NOT up to the task, he believes in doing the exact opposite. Flush the turd November third!

I've mentioned this before but retail businesses and storefronts are required to carry insurance....they actually may profit during covid from insurance claims in some cases more than they were with shuttered stores and a pandemic.....insurance companies should be complaining about the damage most of all...the damage that occured in Eugene ended in brand new store fronts downtown for the half block that was damaged...I'm sure all funded by insurance companies....they've been well paid to cover their clients anyway

I'm glad you brought this up...really no need to protect a business with guns if you have proper insurance.

really?
So they get a check, their insurance rates also skyrocket. It's not like a check to cover damages means their business survives, prices for their consumers goes up to cover increased costs.
Destroying small businesses and saying well as long as they have good insurance then they don't need to protect the business they worked to build seems like a carte blanche free fire on anyone's property as long as their insured.

The effin abuse of the 2nd amendment per usual making things better.

Remind of this gem from everyone's favorite Moss.

I have been mostly anti-gun my entire life. Until the last 4-5 months...
I still think if it came down to it, I'd rather get shot then shoot someone else.
Last couple months I've been thinking quite a bit about getting some weapons and weapon training, this guy has a good youtube channel on how to use guns and what rights you have and don't with weapons.

This year has been a gem for the ones who like guns...

I have no problem with responsible gun ownership. There need to be proper requirements for training, keeping and handling guns - with real consequences for what happens when guns are not properly handled, stored etc... - with proper DMV like registration with GIN (Like a VIN but for Guns) and their owners.

But the current situation is fucked up - plain and simple.

River, so its ok to let people loot and destroy business all because they are insured?
Man with due respect I don't agree with that.
And I hope the criminals in my neighborhood dont buy that.

No it's not ok...never said it was...just saying that property destruction is not the tragedy we're facing and insurance companies should be complaining the most in light of it. I'm not for any defacing or destruction of property unless it's a statue of someone representing crimes against humanity

I don't think it's "ok" to loot and destroy, or that it should be encouraged. But like river pointed out, most of those places are insured. Does that make it ok? No. Is it a huge difference compared to a human life? Absolutely. The outrage over it by some that doesn't match the outrage over the killings is pretty disturbing, to me.

You honestly feel you and your family are THAT big of a target that you need to buy weapons? You on people’s radar where you live?

No not a target, but I feel like people have lost their minds and are extremely volatile, things seem to go from 0 to 100 so fast. Also I think economically the country is close to disaster mode, inflations going go up at some point. Ive heard there is like 40m evictions on the way.
I also think their is division enough for another civil-war soon. I dont think l Id ever need to use it in defense of my family or myself, but if things got crazier, I would like to be armed since I know many others are.

Man, im just bothered by all the crap going on and feel for the youngsters trying to figure all this out.
When when the election is over I hope Joe takes a firm position on stopping the looting and the vandals. I think he will but Im of the belief things will totally settle down.
Id like to see a joint effort by both parties to step up now and take a stand against this stuff, with or without trump.
I hurt for the young people in that they are being taught by both sides to take a a side rather than being taught to get along with all people.
Our grandkids are confused Immensely about all the hate and the covid 19.
Since the election is only a few months away i wish local government/authorities would stop the destruction that happens after the protest. But im nit convinced either side wants to.

See, I'm a bit more concerned with racist police, and police brutality than I am looters. So if we're talking about Joe coming in and taking a firm stand on something, I need to see that quicker than a shut down the looting and let everything "return to normal".

Need to address both big ime. Cannot let either go unaddressed.

The longer riots/vandalism goes unaddressed by city, county, state leadership It could hurt Joe’s numbers.
Yes, they need to reform the police, not abolish them.
Throw every crooked cop in jail and fire and prosecute that use the arms unnecessarily.

I know of no prominent Democrats who support the violence and I wouldn't support any Democrats that did.
