Fortran and flow charts are gone.

A surprising amount of software that banks use still contain Fortran code. And Fortran is still being updated as a language...most recently in 2018.

@andalusian is right about the long use tail, especially when it comes to stubbornness in updating. This xkcd comic nailed it, IMO:

Flow charts are certainly not gone - they are seen very often where micro-services based architectures are used.
I'm talking object oriented programming, now. I went to one of the most advanced robotics labs in the world and the first one to have a robot that runs on two legs, the Oregon State University robotics lab, and asked them what language they used. They answered C++ which was no surprise at all to me. I just wonder if they knew how to take advantage of Visual C++.

Frankly, C / C++ are becoming legacy language right now as well. I do not think they are going away, as they will always be the high-level assembly language of the world - but most software written nowadays is much further away from the hardware and will continue to be so - I am willing to bet that most of the code in advanced robotics nowadays is python as the AI portion of the work is the most important thing in current developments and python seems to be the language of choice for many AI developers.

Frankly, the most important decisions most developers do nowadays are much higher in the chain than language. Cloud providers, DB engines, messaging engines and AI platforms are the things that one has to be cognizant about now - the languages are less and less of a critical component.

Glorious!

I must have reading comprehension issues

the tweet says the city council plans to "replace" police and link directly to a articles that says they plan to "abolish" the police department

but then, right there in the article it says this:

" The proposal states that the council plans to "remove certain functions from the Seattle Police Department to and provide funding for a community-led process to inform the structure and function of a new department of community safety & violence prevention; requesting modifications to policing practices..."

I'm not sure how the writers got "replace the police" and "abolish the police department" out of that. I mean, there couldn't be a right wing agenda at work could there?

Nope!

We should test it out in Seattle. That would be hilarious.

THIS IS ABOUT BLACK MEN DYING
Black men are not Black babies and in fact more than half the Black babies aren't even male.

Webster - Baby
"Definition of baby

Webster - Child
"Definition of child

Flo Health Insights -

"The definition of “baby”
It’s perfectly normal for people to refer to their developing child as a baby, even before they’re pregnant.

On the other hand, some people don’t call a fetus a baby until they’re capable of surviving on their own outside the womb. From this standpoint, the fetus is a living organism, but not yet a “baby.”

Can a fetus be considered a person?
This is an extremely complicated question, one that has been widely and fervently debated. Some define a fetus as a person at conception, while others say a fetus isn’t a person until it can survive outside the womb."

So, you are using a definition of baby differently than most people consider the definition.

That's advice that has always been given. No one's ever said "Get into a verbal altercation with a mugger holding a gun. Dying to save your wallet or purse is a worthy cause." You just follow Twitter simpletons who think this is "post-apocalyptic life in a Defund society."

I've been to Black's beach twice. Wow. lots and lots of good looking babes. I was young enough that I had to lay on my tummy to prevent people from seeing my . . . my . . . my . . . let's just call it my excitement.

Trevor would make a great lawyer as well as he argues a point.

watch that video and realize how little Breonna Taylor's black life mattered to those white cops. Then think about all the ignorant and dismissive arguments against the BLM movement you've seen and heard. And we've seen some of them in this forum

4 months is a long time to go without any charges or conclusions registered by the DA

George Floyd Body Cam Footage

Clearly on drugs, resisting quite a lot, and looking like it’s not racially motivated from the footage.

not a justified death by any means but I’m not 100% sure this is a murder anymore.
