It's true you really don't know....

Why should I share with my personal stories with people who truly don't give a shit? I have plenty. But I'll tell you a story of when I was 6 years old. My sister and I were outside playing on the sidewalk. A group of young white men maybe in their twenties drove down our street and stopped their car. The driver got out and dumped his cigarette ashtray all over me. He then proceeded to say that I was going to grow up and be another nigger in prison and that his kind was going to make sure that it happened. I was 6 fucking years old...
wow, that's heavy for a 6 year old to have to deal with..I'm sorry that happened to you. I'm sorry your sister had to see it. If it's any consolation, those white dudes are probably in prison now or should be if they aren't

Yeah dviss, that's terrible. I can't believe a human being would actually do something like that, especially to a kid. Those people deserve to get knocked out.

It happened right here in "progressive" Portland. We lived on Borthwick street around the corner from Jefferson.

I hope it was reported...ignorant assholes keep making babies and teaching them to grow up to become ignorant assholes.

Would you feel better if the movement was called BlackLivesMatterToo

I was a little kid. My mother was in the house doing laundry. I went and told her but they were gone before anything could be done about it.

Fucked up man. If I saw something like that I'd tear that person a new asshole

How long ago was that, if you don't mind me asking?

Have you had anything on that level of fucked up happen recently?

This is a fun game.

My 9 year old cousin was shot and killed by black men in a drive by shooting too many years ago for my liking. In the trial they were asked why they shot her and said she was on the wrong street at the wrong time. So while you lump others in the same category as the pieces of shit that did that to you, please don't criticize others for doing the same to you. It's not right, but it's reality.

I would never walk down the street in the 1st ward here in Houston at night. Does that make me a racist, or someone with common sense?

See like I said. Why share my stories with people who don't give a shit? I'm really sorry about what happened to your cousin. That's truly abhorrent.

I was asked to share a story so I did. It's not a fucking game though... Not sure why you're playing one...

That is absolutely sickening. Nothing like that has ever happened to me simply because of who I am and I wouldn't pretend that it had. But (sorry!) as Mediocre Man's post somewhat crudely alludes to, terrible things happen to all sorts of people. Maybe I'm just naive but I believe that most of the time when people share their own bad experiences or stories they are trying to be empathetic and connect as people, not one up you or take anything away from your experiences. I understand that we (white Americans) can never truly grok the effect that racism has, I just don't think discounting people's negative experiences and saying they don't give a shit helps anything.

I'm only 23 and I have lived in Tualatin my whole life so I know I'm ignorant about a lot of things but one of my best friends from high school is black and we have had many conversations about race over the years. My ignorance certainly offended him at times but we could pretty much always talk through it. Conversely, I have been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and OCD and my friend was completely ignorant about my issues. I often felt he was being insensitive when in reality he just had no real frame of reference for what I was going through because while he had certainly been anxious before, he had never experienced it on the scale that I had and he admitted as much. When I first mentioned being anxious he assumed I meant that I got nervously excited occasionally and when he first mentioned people being racist to him, I assumed he meant the occasional distasteful joke. Neither of us knew any better. I genuinely feel that me sharing my mental issues with him made it easier for him to open up about his experiences with racism and how he never went a day without having to constantly think about how he is a black person in a overwhelmingly white society. He often said how he felt like he had to be two completely different people depending on who he was around, and maybe you'll think I'm ignorant for saying this but I felt like I could relate to that in some way because most of my teenage years were spent trying not to let people know what I was really thinking and feeling. I apologize if me sharing a personal story of mine makes you feel that I'm diminishing yours, I promise that is not my intention.

Sure you would... But again you're taking them out of context.... Again....

How?

Black lives DO matter. So does mine, but if I started a campaign I'd be a racist.

Why not alllivesmatter. Black, white, cop, petty criminal that wasnt hugged enough as a child.....What ever?

Human lives matter, regardless of race

You sharing your story was not an effort to diminish mine. I do feel that mediocre man's sharing was. When someone's complaint about injustice is met with "all lives matter" the insinuation is that they don't really give a shit and we should stop whining. Mar Azul.

On another note, have you ever gone to that bar in Tualatin called EB Smokies? I used to DJ out there on Friday and Saturday night.

You simply don't get it and I'm tired of explaining it to you.

I can see how you would feel that way because of the way some people go about it, but I still think most have good intentions. You'll find no argument from me about MarAzul though, I generally completely gloss over his posts at this point.

I haven't been there, is it good? I'm actually moving out of Tualatin (all the way to Wilsonville!) next month so I might try it soon if it has your recommendation.

See, this is you not getting me. What happed to you suckef, and had I been there, I would have done something.

My point was, shit happens to everyone, from both races. It's people like you and I that need to come together and stop it.

Not Buying Obama’s BS – Black Leaders Praise NRA, Support Constitution, Denounce WH Racism

Not all black leaders in America are willing to be led around the by the nose by racial entitlement and preference groups such as the NAACP. Not all are political prostitutes willing to advance whatever agenda or tell whatever lie is profitable or power enhancing.

Some are principled Americans, with values that respect the founding principles of our nation and who are fed up with those who pretend to act in the interests of black Americans while doing the exact opposite, including those in the White House and Congress.

In February of 2013, these black leaders took a stand, making it clear that they have had enough of the new slavery of victimization and creeping socialism, and the associated assaults on our founding principles, our freedoms, and our God-given rights enshrined in the Constitution.

Leaders, including Harry Alford of the Black Chamber of Commerce and Niger Innis noted that the NRA was formed in an effort to help recently freed black Americans defend themselves, most particularly from the Ku Klux Klan. Others, including William Owens Jr noted how far the current administration was from the founding principles at that time, almost two and a half years ago.

We all know how much more race relations have deteriorated since that time, due largely to the deliberate actions of the divisive Democrats seeking political benefits.

Not all black leaders are pandering race exploiters, but too many are. It’s up to leaders such as these to identify them, call them out and put them in their place. They also need to identify racist white people such as Hillary Clinton, who seek to capitalize politically and to force an attack on our constitutional rights, most notably the Second Amendment.

We all know that if the Second Amendment falls, the assault on all of our rights and our Constitution becomes much more blatant and their defense will inevitably then become much more bloody. We all must do what we can to make certain that never happens.

Here's to a time in the future when there's nothing to "get". It would be stupid to say that our society hasn't come a long way since the civil rights movement of the '60s. It would be equally stupid to say that skin pigmentation doesn't still have serious ramifications on chances of success or the way that people are treated at times by certain elements of the judicial system. To say it's just a matter of skin pigmentation certainly is an oversimplification. Poor people are treated more unfairly by the system than middle- and upper-class people, and percentage-wise, more black people are poor than whites. Certain things about poor urban lifestyle, like less family stability, greater gang participation, etc. undoubtedly have an influence in disparities in criminal prosecution statistics and so on. That said, I can understand the anger being expressed by the BLM folks and dviss1 when people parrot back the "all lives matter" line. Of course they do, but saying that diminishes the point being made that the game feels fixed against blacks.

As a white guy from a lower middle-class family, I have to say that it irritates me when black people talk about "white privilege". My family couldn't pay for college so I worked and joined ROTC to get through on my own. Nobody ever gave me anything. I worked my ass off in my career and have been self-employed making a decent living through my own efforts for the past 30 years. That said, I have to admit that part of my irritation is that I know that there's at least an element of truth in the sentiment of white privilege. In getting where I'm at, I didn't have to overcome any prejudice based upon my skin color. While my family didn't have much money, I did have a stable home life with a mom and dad who loved me and kept me safe and provided my basic needs.

I'm not sure why I'm bothering to write this other than to say that I think I do "get" at least a part of "it". I'm not sure how or if things will ever be completely fixed so that everybody has a fair shot at a good life. I do think that if more people would take the time to really listen to each other, it would be a help.

White privilege.

40 acres and a mule for white people. Blacks owned as slaves saw zero for their labor.

Fine foundation upun which to build a house that divided cannot stand.

I couldn't find the word "Irish" in jfizzleraider's link.

Obama blew it. He spent $trillions on foolish things, when he could have paid reparations.

Once those are paid, it's every man for himself. I'd have no empathy at that point. It would be fair.

So how exactly would reparations work? Would you pay out to people who could prove that they descended from slaves? How about people who had black ancestors that OWNED slaves? Would you give them reparations? How about people with white ancestors and black ancestors? Just curious how you would make all that work.

Pay between $6T and $14T over time to descendents of slaves.

$50B/yr over 20 years is a $trillion.

You can figure how much labor was taken from the slaves. Something like 2M slaves on average per year from 1790-1860. Times 365 days a year times 10 hours a day times $7.25/hr. Plus pain and suffering, loss of investment income, etc.

So do you have to create a government agency just to verify heritage and determine value?
