I didn't prove your point because I don't assume we became an industrial juggernaut because of terrible greed, although, greed as an aspect plays a part in all economic growth. At the end of WWII with an economy in full swing because of government spending and with an undamaged infrastructure relative to all other WWII participants, the U.S. was at an unprecedented level of economic power. Tell me how this came about because of greed? But you can attribute greed to the growing chasm of wealth and income between the richest and the poorest that has developed more recently.

Everything you mention as a reason for our economic growth is based on greed. WWII was fueled by greed. Capitalism is based on greed. Innovation is based on greed. The idea that society would be better off without greed is laughable, naive, and completely unintelligent.

You reduce all economic motivation to greed and I am spouting drivel? Jonas Salk, Albert Einstein, Linus Pauling, et al. were not innovating because of greed;it's likely not a part of their development as intellectuals or at least not in a comparable sense to that of corporate innovators whose bottom line is always a consideration. If I said the world would be better off without killing, I am sure you hold otherwise because, after all, killing is part of what got us here.

Who distributes wealth is another away of saying who sets budgets and tax policy. I claim that it is the people who should decide and you assume I'm a communist. It doesn't quite follow.

A really simple question for you to ponder.

Someone builds a two story building across the street from the beach. The apartments on the second floor have a wonderful view and the people who live there get to enjoy sunsets daily all year round. The apartments on the first floor have no view at all because there are bushes and trees across the street that obstruct the view.

Who decides who gets to live upstairs and who gets to live downstairs?

What's "fair?"

And why would that "someone" build the building in the first place if he couldn't be rewarded more for making such nice upstairs apartments?

He actually agreed with everything you said except for the part about exploitation. In Maxiep's view of the world, any gain by America via capitalism is justified, no matter what the cost. Survival of the fittest and all.
