Heard on the radio that Shaw is the leading canidate to get the Orlando job. Hope its not true. I want him in PDX with Kaleb as his lead assistant.

It's hard to grab these young coaches in demand when we aren't focusing on them right now

Don't put too much stock in SF Gate. They were the same ones who said for sure the Blazers were making interim GM permanent.

Sloan had the best pick and roll duo in NBA history. He had the all time NBA leader in assists, all time leader in steals. One of the best blocking centers in NBA history. One of the best shooters in NBA history.

Winning two titles with those players over 20 years is nice, but not terribly impressive.

Winning zero titles? That’s disappointing.

Why do we want to hire a disappointment?

#Blazers need permission b4 speaking w/ Mike Malone, Brian Shaw & they're not even doing that. Wonder why...

Olshey: "When the roster is more established & u know where u are, you pick a coach based on who can develop the roster

Crazy, nonsensical conspiracy theory, their sales pitch to Deron will involve him helping to pick the new coach!

What if we promised Dion Waiters we'd draft him and let him bring Jimmy Boheim with him. Take that MM!

I wouldn't be the only one taking that. Everyone would be pissed eventually. Just like with Nate

Maybe they're waiting until after the draft, then go hire D'Antoni (Legarie client) and then sign Lin after July 1.

Blazers want to fit a coach to their roster. Really? Why not quit dragging their feet and go get the best coach?:http://www.csnnw.com/pages/landingd...nique-approach-t=1&blockID=724654&feedID=8351

I've always hated Jaynes. I think he's kind of an idiot, and generally talks out of his ass. This seems to be no exception, IMO.

He mentions Sloan dealing with young players, and then mentions shaping the careers of a young Malone and Stockton. He started coaching them over 20 years ago! He was 46 at the time. Not 70. On top of that, when he came aboard, the previous season Malone put up 28 and 12, and Stockton 15 and 14. It's not like he got them both as rookies and made them what they were.

Dwight Jaynes and Chad Doing both have hard-ons for Sloan. It is quite annoying. Not anything against Sloan, but I swear Chad has ranted about wanting Sloan and crying about Kaleb being the next coach this whole entire week. I almost want to call in and tell him to STFU.

I would prefer the team have a little bit more of a sense of urgency in hiring a coach, but as I have said a few times now. Olshey gets the benefit of the doubt from me until he screws something up bigtime

I would like more sense of urgency, but what he said, to me, makes sense. And I disagree with Jaynes on coaches adapting to their players talents. Generally, you have a GM who, ideally, gets players to fit his coach(Phil, Sloan, Pop, D'Antoni) than saying here's this, do what you can with it. That's often times a recipe for disaster.
So if you have the draft coming up, potential trades, etc., instead of hiring a coach, and then feeling compelled to draft a certain way to fit that coach(say you hired sloan, and felt that Drummondwouldn't fit his system, so you pass on him for Lillard) it probably makes more sense to truly go with BPA, and then look at what you have and say ok, we have athletic defenders and guys who can get out and run, let's look to find someone who fits that. or, ok, we just traded for a guy great in the halfcourt, let's work with that, etc. You want the coach on board, and after you ahve him, you tailor closely to his needs, but I think you run the risk on missing on someone if you are trying already to fit someone in.

Several tidbits today, Sloan took his hat out of the ring for Charlotte (who didn't see that coming?) and Brian Shaw has interest in this coaching job over Charlotte, and possibly Orlando as well.

That being said, Shaw has legit interest in both the Portland and Orlando jobs. If I had to put one ahead of the other, it'd be Blazers.

So you're saying you think Kaleb Canales is a better candidate for the job?

I think its very smart for the Blazers to hold off hiring a coach. If we trade the picks for veterans then sign a guy like Deron we could be title contenders and spend $5+million on the best coach available. If we go with a youth movement, draft young players, and sign young free agents there is no reason to waste tons of money on a proven coach when a younger assistant would be more energetic, far cheaper and probably better develop the rookies.

This roster is in more flux and far more unpredictable then in an average offseason. Management has only days before the draft and a few days after to start free agency. They will be extremely busy and need to spend their limited time on the tasks with the highest priority. The coaching search can easily be delayed a few weeks, the draft and free agency cannot.

So does that mean that KP, Cho, and the Hanging Chad get a pass for not being able to pick their coach?
