Blazer "dealing with rejection" in GM search

Everyone seems to give Chad a hard time. I like him, but not as GM.

That being said, I wouldn't mind Ferry as GM. He certainly wouldn't be my first choice, but he's at least a serviceable GM. If we had a full-time GM, I'd at least feel like the team was trying to set course on a specific direction, and move forward. There's a lot of worse GM's out there than Ferry, that's for sure (John Nash, anyone?)....

Ferry's drafting resume isn't that bad all things considered. A few 2nd round steals and guys late in the 1st that have made impacts.

Totally agree, here. I would have been fine if we'd have hired Ferry or Pfund last year when those were two of the rumored names.

If we trade both picks for one of those guys, I'd be pissed. But there are a couple of guys in your list that I would love to see in Portland, and if we were trading just one of the picks for one of those guys, I wouldn't be disappointed. I think the value of the pick at #11 is better than the player we likely get. Of course, a lot will change leading up to the draft and where are pick(s) actually lands could change my opinion. But I'm not excited about the players I see being available at #11.

In my thread about our scouts the draft picks from 2001-2011 have been atrocious outside a few.

It hasn't really been as atrocious as you have hammered on about the past few weeks, but whatever.

Bower....His draft picks...Hilton Armstrong(12), Cedric Simmons(15), Julian wright(13), Darren Collison(21), Craig Brackins(21), Quincy Pondexter(26).
Awful. And I can't really figure out what he was going for on many of them. You can usually see oh, a guy took a risk on upside and missed, ok. Or he took a risk on low ceiling high floor, to play it safe with a pick. Ok. He.....??? I dunno. Just took players that aren't very good. Had minimal upside(I guess Wright's upside was thought to be ok, but watching him should have told you otherwsie) and minimal skill. There's just not a lot there to get excited about, IMO.

Collison was a great pick and then he fizzled out.

As a starter he was nearly a 20/10 PG when CP3 was out with injury -- went to Indy and now he's very mediocre.

This is what kinda scares me about Dragic -- is he legit or a flash in the pan?

Darrell Arthur was drafted by Bower but immediately sold to KP/Paul Allen, who then used Arthur as a part of the deal with Memphis that landed Batum.

The same could quite possibly be said about Bower then - he may well have had someone under him calling the shots. So we can't knowingly judge Bower on his picks then.

Comparing our Asst. GM performance to another team's GM's performance is comparing apples to oranges.

I don't think it's as clear cut as apples to oranges. More like Fiji Apples compared to Golden Delicious apples. They both work in a front office, and ultimately we have no idea who makes the final call. Sometimes it's even the owner, as Paul pointed out with Aldridge, Sergio, and Patty. We can only look at a team's track record while that person was employed there, and Warkentien was THE guy when it came to evaluating talent on the Blazers. Ultimately it's why he left, because the team didn't take Al Jefferson (the guy he wanted) and instead took Sebastian Telfair.

You have to look at the body of work, the resources provided, and how the team performed. He built a decent team in NOH, one that would have been much stronger if not for injuries. While I don't get overly excited about Bower, I think we could do much worse (and he's better than what we currently have in place).
