Blazer positional Mt. Rushmores

It's a tough call...one could almost put the 77 team on the list across the board....I loved Strickland and Sabas together...Strickland may have been the most talented point guard we've ever had...but in the end
Dame
Clyde
Kersey
Lucas
Walton

Here's my list of the top 25 all time Blazers.

I think Lillard passed Porter this year, especially with earning 1st team all-nba.

Lucas I may have ranked a bit high, but damn, the memories I have as a kid with him and Walton winning the championship are tough to forget.

Give Dame and CJ a few more years, and I think both will climb a bit higher. I certainly appreciate having a couple of guys on the team I consider franchise players that seem to be quality individuals. I like rooting for these guys.

Off-Topic, but I kinda like the squad we'd have with all NW-grown players.

Isaiah Thomas / Aaron Brooks
Avery Bradley / Joe Harris
Klay Thompson / Jamal Crawford
Kevin Love / Marvin Williams
Terrence Jones / Spencer Hawes

If only we had a solid C. Am I missing anyone?
Domantis Sabonis was born in Portland

Damon Stoudamire
Bonzi Wells
Ruben Patterson
Rasheed Wallace
Ha Seung Gin

Everybody stands on one end of the court, and the first to peg Ha in the groin 3 times wins. The Kobe Stopper and Bonzi have a side-bet to see who can enrage more people in the Northwest. Damon must climb through a hotboxed crawl space in an airport to reach Jason Quick for inevitable post-game mutual self-pity rant.

I realize this is more reality show than Mt Rushmore, but have you checked out who our president is? It is not a Mt Rushmore kind of era.

Everybody talks about the 7 Seconds or Less Suns, but the Jail Blazers really were ahead of the times.

PG--Porter, Dame, Strickland, Damon
SG--Clyde, Roy, Paxson, Petrie
SF--Kersey, Cliffy, Pippen, Gross(?)
PF--Luke, LA, Sheed, Buck
C--Walton, Sabas, Duck, Thompson

Argue with me. PF is obviously ripe for disagreement.

I would have to follow my hart on this and add Duckworth and Brian Grant..all in all, a good compilation

PG: Dame, Porter, Anderson, Twardzik (Strickland, Stoudamire)

SG: Drexler, Roy, Paxon, Petrie ( CJ, Matthews, Petrovic)

SF: Kersey, Pippen, Natt, Gross (Vandeweghe)

PF: Lucas, Wallace, Williams, Aldridge (Wicks)

C: Walton, Sabonis, Duckworth, Nurkic (Mychal Thompson, Moses Malone)

Where is that thread that puts the best starting 5 together for all teams? If I recall we didnt look so bad on that?

What is your guys Mt Rushmore opposite? The worst 4 players in each position.

This got me thinking about how to rate players across eras and positions.

I used stats only from when the players played for the Blazers.
- I started with Win-Share (x1) as a baseline.
- I then added points for PER (x1),
- Playoff Games (xPER/50),
- All-Star Appearances (x10),
- All-NBA 3rd team (x15),
- All-NBA 2nd Team (x20),
- All-NBA 1st team (x40),
- NBA MVP (x50), and
- NBA Championship (xPERx2.5).

Add all those together to get the final rating -

Using this as a baseline for my Mt Rushmore by position:
(C) Walton, C Robinson, Sabonis, Duckworth
(PF) Aldridge, Lucas, Wallace, Wicks
(SF) Kersey, Gross, Steele, Vandeweghe
(SG) Drexler, Roy, Paxson, Petrie
(PG) Lillard, Porter, Twardzik, Hollins

Everything is subjective, of course. But it's fun to compare some of these great players from the past.

Interesting. I'd say you're probably undervaluing playoff games and over-valuing the all-star/all NBA selections. But still, interesting to look at it formulaically.
