BLAZER5 ANNOUNCES HIRING OF HEAD COACH ANDREW MAXIE

PORTLAND, Ore. (January 8, 2020) – Blazer5 Gaming today has announced the hiring of head coach Andrew Maxie. Maxie’s coaching responsibilities include leading the day-to-day development of the team and players, strategy and preparation for upcoming games, talent scouting and more.

“Getting to coach Blazer5 is the dream I never knew would be possible,” said Maxie. “Getting the chance to combine my love for basketball, 2K and coaching is mind blowing. This group already has a winning culture and have proved to be a force in the league. It is important to me to be surrounded by like-minded individuals, so it excites me to be a part of an organization that shares the same values.”

Maxie has been playing NBA 2K since childhood in Odessa, Texas, and he used the game as an icebreaker during his basketball career. As a college basketball player, Maxie won MAC Conference MVP at Eastfield College and NAIA All-American at Lindenwood-Belleville University, among many other accolades. He has played basketball around the nation and internationally in Australia, Italy, Ireland, Macedonia, Mexico and Canada.

“Andrew has a winning mindset,” said Steve Scott, Senior Vice President of Revenue. “He has won championships as both a player and a coach. We feel he is the perfect addition to help Blazer5 Gaming accomplish our objective of winning an NBA 2K League championship.”

“We’re excited to welcome Andrew to the team,” said Cameron McAlees, Blazer5 Operations Manager. “His experience both coaching and competing in basketball will make him an asset to our team’s game day preparation. Andrew also brings a wealth of knowledge regarding both physical and mental wellness. I look forward to seeing Andrew’s contributions to the team in this upcoming season.”

Thread titles often contain misspellings.

It shocked me, but I knew my dream couldn't be true without more forewarning, so I suspended belief, and clicked. I've waited so many years.

But thank you, Sly, for making me feel happy (though disbelieving...I wasn't yet out-of-control delirious) for 2 seconds.

"BLAZER5" looks just like "BLAZERS" when you want it to. I will fondly look at this thread title the rest of my life.

When Jody's granddaughter is forced to make a change in 2060 because Stotts and Olshey died in 2050 and their bodies are smelling up the arena, this thread may be saved in a museum somewhere.

Intelligence agencies will have decided that robots make more profit. Non-wealthy humans will be gone, but there will be a great collective rattling sound in celebration, from composite-plastic high-threeing. Hands will need only 3 digits.

The Portland Tail-Blazers Announces Hiring Of Head Coach Nate McMullen.

"It's good to be back" said McMullen, who returned to the club after 8 years of absence. "There are many successful adult clubs in the Portland area, but the 'Tail-Blazers' are at the forefront of innovation. I can't wait to meet the girls and work on all their dance routines".

He's been assisting in an Indiana club called "Gary's."

Must i really look up what "Blazer5" is or is someone gonna explain it on here?

And is this like the 3 on 3 tournament? Do we have S2 members playing?
No--the NBA created a professional basketball gaming league a couple years ago, with 17 teams sponsored by NBA cities. Portland had one of those 17 teams--Blazer5Gaming. Led by our center Dayne Downey ("OneWildWalnut") and our point guard Nidal Nasser ("MamaWhosDatMan"), Blazer5 reached the final game of the initial tip-off tournament, won the first in-season tournament ("The Turn"), and achieved the league's best regular-season record, only to lose in the first round of the playoffs in true Blazer fashion.

Last year, returning MVP and DPOY OneWildWalnut and crew came out and again posted the top regular season record, including (I believe) 11 straight wins, but once again found nothing but failure in not just the playoffs, but each of the 4 tournaments. This made 6 consecutive tournaments in which B5 bowed out in the first round, despite boasting the league MVP in consecutive years (point guard MamaWhosDatMan won the honor in the league's second year).

This season, Blazer5 is hoping that the continued continuity coupled with the coaching change will lead to postseason success following their now expected regular season dominance.

So this is like Xbox or Playstation? Wow? Who knew? My nephew plays those games. How does he sign up for these kinds of leagues? Actually he probably already knows and would look at me like i was old if i started talking about it.

The game exists on Xbox, Playstation, and PC, and prospective players can compete via any of those platforms. The qualification process is open to anyone and is explained here. https://2kleague.nba.com/news/2019-qualifier/

One of the more interesting storylines in this year's qualification class is that Jamie Ruiz ("DirK") who has been part of the 2KLeague broadcast crew the past two years has gone all-in in trying to earn a spot in the league. He's made it through the qualifiers and the combine with some of the most impressive stats around, and has now advanced to the "interview" portion of the process. It is highly likely that this coming season he will be part of the league about which he has been providing commentary.

NERD.

Funny. I was just thinking that!

When the league first came out, I decided that if the Blazers were going to have a team, then I was going to be a fan of said team. Made a point to learn enough about the league to not feel lost whenever I check up on it. Sure it's not "real" basketball, but the games are relatively interesting to watch, and the guys on the B5 team are pretty cool to root for.

This sounds like a believable parody of the actual team.

I paid attention to the nba2k pro league for a while but didn't stick with it. Can't watch other people play video games, I always think, why don't I just play video games...

So this has nothing to do with the game of basketball, nor the Portland Trailblazers?
