Blazers after Asik again?

I don't want them touching our starters unless we are getting a Legit All Star from last year back, and even then I'm picky. Anyone else on this team, I'd be sad to see go, but happy to trade if it's getting a very nice piece back.

we don't have cap space to give them.
we don't have draft picks to give them.
we don't have a 4 that's near good enough to be the centerpiece of a deal (it's against league rules to trade Robinson to them).
we don't want to give up Lopez and they don't want him anyway.
Our draft pick is injured.
Wes is playing like an all-star
we ain't giving up Batum.

In summary,
the only way we make a trade for Asik is if there is a 3rd team involved and if Olshey is superhuman.

Well, we do, his name is LaMarcus. But I wouldn't advise that trade.

Actually, I think Leonard is a "stretch 4". He's a tall guy that can shoot. I doubt he has much value now though. Not sure what kind of pic we could trade them since we still owe Charlotte a 1st. Trading Lopez for him seems like a lateral move. But if we could keep Lopez, it would be great to have those two playing center for us. Like the days when we had Pryzbilla and Ratliff.

But will Asik be willing to come off bench? I want Lopez starting.

There is NO WAY Olshey will do that. I'm 100% guaranteeing it

Point 1. It's highly likely that we only bring in Asik if we keep Lopez.

Point 2. It's been discussed here many times by myself and other about 3rd team scenarios to get HOU a stretch 4 and sending out McCollum/Leonard or some combo of Freeland/Barton/Claver. Two possible teams are Philly and the Bucks.

Leonard/Claver/Barton could do it though. Claver and Leonard could be a stretch 4. Barton is a consolation to help their back court

It won't really matter. Asik can start if he really wants to, you can split the time between the two centers.

Got to ride this out starting five for at least the first third of the season.

But come trade deadline, if Asik for Lopez and Leonard is available, I think Olshey will give that some serious consideration and possibly makes that move.

If Lopez keeps this up, why would we get an equal, whinier part?

Asik is maybe 10th or 11th in rotation on our team, and that's only if he had a character transplant. He's never done much for anyone anywhere, and he's a dick. I don't see him in the NBA 3 years from now.

you are in fantasy land to think that, though now that I said that that it's nothim new...lol Luv ya Mags

then IMO you are quite nearsighted

Why should we cater then? Houston is in trouble and we don't need to make them better unless they help us as well.

I know those players aren't good on our team, but Leonard would be a perfect compliment to Howard. There comes a time for a team that has Houston and get out of his tucking way down low.

I really don't think Asik is a cancer. He signed in Houston last year to be the starting C of the future, they had a nice season and made the playoffs and did so with a career year from him. Hes pissed that they replaced him. Probably in his mind Houston violated their agreement. He knows hes a good starter. Would you rather your legacy be as a bench player or a starter?

I know a lot of people will say they want the guy who would take a reduced role to win, but its just unrealistic. Same reason why I don't blame Harden for leaving Houston. Do you want to be known as the 3rd fiddle or backup to the best C in the league or do you want to have a go of it on your own? If you believe in yourself you'd probably rather go start somewhere else thinking that you're going to help that team become a winner.

Asik is better than Lopez in defence and in rebounding. He's a defensive monster.

Agreed. Lopez is having a good year, and they're probably closer than I would have given Lopez credit for at the beginning of this year, but I still think Asik is better.

You can talk all day about how well Lopez boxes out...I'd rather have my big clear the glass and feeding my smalls with a head of steam up the floor.

We'll see what you're saying when Klay Thompson leaves to star elsewhere.

I'm sure David Lee would be enough to land him. Happy?

Asik is like Chris Dudley or Joel Przybilla. Lopez is a worse shotblocker and rebounder, but, relatively offensively inept as he is, he looks like Kevin McHale next to Asik.

Don't get me wrong: I was clamoring for Asik for the past two or three years, but I'm loving what Lopez has brought and it's no fun to go 4 on 5, as I'm sure we remember from the Dudley/Przybilla years. I'd be fine with offering up everybody on our roster outside of the top 5, but somehow I can't see Houston biting. And that's okay.

I'm trying to think what the perfect Asik trade is. Everyone used to say Ryan Anderson, but (a) Anderson instantly proved his value to New Orleans, and (b) didn't he give some interview where he made it clear he was no Dwight Howard fan from their time in Orlando?

The Bulls should offer Carlos Boozer and just acknowledge they shouldn't've been so cheap as to let Asik go in the first place.

Don't think Houston even wants Boozer at all. Where are the Asik to Chicago rumors coming from? Seemed like Chicago let him walk because Noah is better and, more importantly, he defends the pick and roll better (same logic for letting Asik walk and paying Taj Gibson). They've gotta get through Miami in the east so it doesn't make sense to have a lumbering center who can't make them pay down low. Bigs need to be mobile.
