Blazers: "discombobulated" & Larry Miller: MIA (2 Viewers)

Don't laugh.

I have been saying that I believe that the team's best chance of improvement this summer, is to wait for the feeding frenzy to die down, and then target someone who falls through the cracks.

I'm sure B&B have the skills to find that kind of hidden gem - but do they have the authority to act on it? I have visions of them spending 3 days playing telephone tag with Miller and the Vulcans, while the guy they wants signs somewhere else. :sigh:

Again, with todays technology I don't think they play 3 days of phone tag. PA deals with business decisions that will cost or make him millions everyday, I think he has this communication thing down.

Wrong. Now that KP has been fired, and we have no GM in place (and Larry dare spends time with his family), the Blazers are forced to communicate the only way they have left. Via carrier pigeon.

learn the game, then post. And oh yeah, I'm Papag!

I look odd in this picture. My friend looks good enough to make up for that, though :)

Ed O.

I was going to ask you to crop that pic to the left and maybe zoom in a tad. Thanks in advance.

You don't cite a source of the quote, unless I'm missing something. Is it someone reliable, or some blog, or some homeless guy with an inhalant addiction or Stephen A Smith? I mean, how accurate is this?

I felt I needed to fix that to not have quite such a jarring leap in credibility.

One GM interview in 11 days since Pritchard's firing, Larry Miller has admitted that he has taken two 3-day weekends in a row, and the apologists are stepping over each other trying to create a semi-plausible excuse for this clusterfuck. Hire a fucking GM, then take a vacation. How anybody can even excuse this nonchalance exhibited by Miller, let alone attack posters for questioning it, seems absurd.

One common thing seems to be those sticking up for Miller are looking backward and bringing up Pritchard. Problem is, the people questioning Miller aren't bringing Pritchard up when criticizing Miller, so I don't understand what role Pritchard plays in Larry Miller taking 6 ouf the 11 days since the draft off from work.

Move on from Pritchard, and let's talk about where the team is right now.

That's the most reasonable thing you've posted in weeks. The KP firing and Larry Miller's action, or lack thereof, are two different issues. One in the past and one occurring presently. Larry Miller better "get 'er done" here pretty soon. Maybe, just maybe they have someone who has agreed in principle, but maybe is waiting to see where certain FA's land to make up their minds. Who am I kidding they probably could be a tad further along then they are.

We might luck out by default as the real action begins July 8th. Most of the moves thus far have been overpaying for role players basically flaunting the upcoming CBA as an owners win.

Do you really think a new GM is going to being any better in the short run (the next 30 days) then what we already have in place. (Kp's boys) Is someone like Pfund going to come in and start working magic right away or is he going to take time to assess the situation? The new guy will not know as much about the current Blazers team as the guys already there.

I think they are takng their time because the right gM is more important for the long term direction that this team takes.. But in the short term, those decisions have probably already been discussed in length by KP and his team for months. Now they just need to execute. Its just sales at this point. Here is who we want and this is what we can offer to get him. Any good salesman can do that short term.

This isn't like taking over the Clippers or the Nets. This is a team that is conceivably a move away from a championship if health isn't an issue. Right now, we have no leadership on the basketball side, and the business side is taking vacations for some unknown reason.

As for "any good salesman", well, who the fuck is the salesman right now? I know who it was up through the draft. If you're saying we need a closer, well, the Blazers just fired the closest thing they had to one two weeks ago.

Buchanan is selling right now. For all we know, he is every bit the closer KP was.

And we agree again. I think the team is one player move away from contending (injuries withstanding). But what 1 player can we add? What 1 player would KP, a GM not known for making big acquisitions, have added?

until we're given a reason for KP's dismissal, we're always going to question Blazers Brass. So fucked.
so? Fans always question management... always. How does fans with new questions = so fucked???

Ticket sales aren't mandatory... fans could always chose not to buy. Of course they were selling 20,000 seats a night through the tail end of the constantly maligned "Jail Blazer" era... about the only thing that seemed to slow down the sales was the losing era of Nash when management paid attention to :ohno: sect of fans and rid the team of talent for "character"... the club finished dead last in paid attendance. If management doesn't make another move this offseason, this roster (given health) will be a contender IMO. Regardless the freakout fans should just accept that they'll only be privy to the facts/sunshine management chooses to allow out... thats the way it's always been. If thats not to their liking maybe those fans should organize another rally to air their complaints/concerns and see what that gets them?

The salesman is "The Born Identity" or Buchanan as MM pointed out. A closer is always nice but in this situation i think all we can do is to put together the best possible package to NO and pray the timing is right. You can't take something form someone in this league unless they are getting what they want in return. (Cap space and young players) They are almost all win /win situations. All those Blazer guys can handle it. Don't fool yourself, Miller can too.

A good salesman would convince the other team of what they need, yet it would be in the salesman's best interest. You post as if any clod could pull off any deal. If that is the case, why even a have a GM? Why am I "fooling myself" if I question how having scouts running the show, and a "boss" who is seemingly more interested in cookouts than anything else, is good for the team right now?

Also, how was Outlaw/Blake for Camby "win/win" for the Clippers? How was Foye for Roy "win/win" for Minnesota? How was Tyrus Thomas for Aldridge "win/win" for the Bulls? Hell, how was missing out on Batum "win/win" for the Rockets?

A closer? I wish! Given several years, the only thing he ever did in the summer was Andre Miller, and he was forced into that by a desire to spend before it was too late. The only thing he ever did during the season was Camby, and he was forced into that by the desire to get something, anything, for Blake and Outlaw instead of just letting them leave this summer.

He wouldn't have done anything this summer, so we are no worse now, not making moves that he wouldn't have made either. He was no closer. He hated trades, except meaningless ones on one day per year. And his only closing skill was Allen's $3 million.

I have to believe that if KP were still the GM, certain people would be lauding him for his "patience" and his unwillingness to jump into the fray, "That KP, he sure knew when not to make bad moves!"

Agreed.

"Sometimes it's the moves you don't make", that should be KP's bumper sticker. In reality it is the moves that you couldn't make, but I always loved KP autopsy post trade deadline, "There were deals, just nothing we felt comfortable with...let the cake bake."

KP didn't convince Minnesota that Foye was better than Roy, or Chicago that Thomas was better than LMA. They already believed that. To them it was a win win. Why have a GM? Read what I said. For a long term strategy it is important. For the next few weeks......it won't make a difference.

And the same people would be crying for these magical trades that don't exist.

"KP you never make trades make one happen now!"

"I want CP3 for Armon Johnson and Przybilla and if NO shuts it down it's all your fault"

I think there's something to be said for stability and familiarity though. The longer the team can play together, without having huge changover year after year, the better they'll be. This also goes for the front office/coaching staff, which was the main reason the whole KP situation was annoying. I think some on here overvalue making moves, just to make moves. It gives us something to talk about during the summer and yes, I agree we can always be better. But I think patience is a virtue and being knee-jerk/desperate isn't. I won't presume to know if the reason KP didn't do many in-season trades is because he couldn't or because he didn't want to disrupt chemistry, or both. Unlike some on here, I don't know everything.

I still think the biggest improvement we can have is just by being healthy. So yeah, in the end I do like our team. Sue me.

Well, with the caveat that the team has to be good (i.e., have talent and balance) in the first place. You can put a bunch of healthy shmoes together for eternity and you still have a bad team.

I do believe in continuous improvement, but the core of this team is pretty set (unless they can swing for Chris Paul, of course). Otherwise, help with specific tasks. Fortunately, this board is not GM and they are not trading Roy, and extremely unlikely to trade Aldridge or Oden. Rudy wants out, find a decent deal.

Heh, yes, there's always a caveat. Let's just say I wasn't a proponent of patience and familiarity in 2005. I'm referring to a young playoff team that never even resembled healthy last year.

After conducting recent interviews by phone, #Blazers will likely begin meeting in person with next round of GM candidates, Miller said.

#Blazers president Miller's "vacation": Two days spent with his grandchildren, while being on the phone with owner Allen entire time.

good grief, you don't know shit about dude's daily work. Why pretend otherwise?

and two days off is called a weekend not a vacation

Judging by the number of vacations he takes I have a pretty good guess.

GM search is sure moving right along!

I'm glad you know he's lying, must be awesome being inside Miller's head.

BUT WE CANT CALL KEVIN PRITCHARD A BAD MAN OR WE ARE JUST FALLING FOR PROPAGANDA.
