Blazers Give Sharpe a Promise?

This is believable considering he dropped his workout with the Pels immediately after working out with us.

Also betting there are multiple teams willing to trade up to nab Sharpe. So the incentive is definitely there.

I would be shocked if this was true. It would mean the Blazers aren't considering veteran offers for the 7th pick. Why would they give up that opportunity? What about trying to win with Dame now? I'm all for long term draft BPA and possibly even explore Dame trades; but this seems reckless in the other direction.

In theory the reason to do this would be if the Blazers feared the Pistons or Pacers picks might draft him, and they want Sharpe to stop interviewing with those teams or their trade partners. That is the only advantage to give a promise.

Hopefully this is just agent driven to try and pressure Pistons/Pacers/other teams to draft him.

Maybe they're promising to take him for the (insert team here)!

This actually does make sense; if we have a trade lets say lined up with Toronto on the condition Sharpe is available at #7.

Please explain.

Do you think the Blazers gave Sharpe a promise contingent on them not trading the pick? That would be a shitty promise.

I think they probably are betting on him having the best trade value, or they want to keep him, but if they can't secure a deal before the draft that makes them happy, they probably think that Sharpe is the best trade chip.

The only thing that could tank his trade value would be the summer league.

No, it doesn’t. It could mean we promised to draft him for another team @ 7 if he’s still available there.

Which leads into the second part of your question…

A promise prevents him from working out with teams below us in the hopes that they won’t trade up for him, which could potentially ruin an agreed upon trade (assuming) we’ve correctly identified the draft board of other teams picking.

Either 1.) There's a deal in place we are comfortable dependent on Sharpe being there. or 2.) We are comfortable taking Sharpe if the deal falls apart.

It's definitely not we have to keep him.

Brian Whindhorst did mention that Portland’s focused on Sharpe. There could be something to this.
Windy said on his pod today that he hasn't paid any attention to the draft and everything he's getting is from Givony. BW simply looked at who JG mocked to us.

Fair enough.

If this is true, I would summarize it as saying Sharpe has a promise to be drafted at #7, and Portland has agreed to a trade contingent on Sharpe being available at #7.

I wouldn't classify this as Portland gave a promise to draft a player as the tweet read. I read a team drafting a player without any additional comments, as meaning he ends up on that team. I'd never say the Blazers drafted Tyrus Thomas or that they did not draft LaMarcus Aldridge.

Was Damian given a promise, but not public initially?
