Blazers have talked to San Antonio about Kawhi

It would suck losing Collins and Simons for a possible rental, but I’ve maintained that Kawhi could be talked into staying in Portland, and will probably end up loving it once he experiences it.

Curious as to why you think that? There was a time when we regularly heard reports that our players ended up loving the area, but I'd guess around the Jail Blazer era, we hear less and less of it. Especially, from African American players. Only two come to mind, Martell and Channing Frye, and Martell grew up in the NW. Maybe I'm overlooking a few, but more come to mind who don't care for living here. Given, that Kawhi is from a big city with large minority population, I'm not sure Kawhi is a good bet to feel differently.

If I'm SA, I'd want Harkless + our summer league team + 1st rounder .

Blazers wouldn't do all of that, but I could see SA being tempted by Collins-Simons-Harkless (Aminu for salary) and a pick. If Leonard is healthy I think that is a compelling trade for SA. A lot of future talent there to build with.

I think Trent stays because he can clearly be ready in the window.

I don't think people realize how good Kawhi is. If completely without question marks like contract, health, or agency, you couldn't dream of getting him for Dame + prospects in a trade, much less CJ, or our rookies/youngins. His value is so depressed now because of all of this nonsense that surrounds him-- and we're in a position where we can afford to take these risks. What do we really have to lose? If it blows up, we clear salary for good and start over in 2020-- some people here want to do that now as is.

If it works out and he's healthy and decides to stay, you have a duo in Dame/Kawhi that can compete with any other duo in the league.

CJ, Leonard, Turner, filler for Kawhi & LMA.

We get upgrades and lose some bad contracts.

If Kawhi is 99% healthy, then I think you are spot on. You just really want to make sure he is healthy. Dame is a good teammate, and Portland is a good organization that treats their players well. Same with Stotts. If Kawhi is healthy then you take the chance because how many shots do you get at a top five player?

Leonards agent already stated that playing in a big market would allow him to make up some of the money left on the table through endorsements and such.
He's not going to move from one small market to another at this stage of his career.

Regarding this Dame is the perfect example that market size doesn't marrer.

Cant we make a trade with physical clause? If he doesn't pass our physical then we can null the trade? Isn't that common?

So make the trade and if he comes up gimp, cancel the trade.

Passing a physical is almost always a condition of a trade. OTOH, we are talking about the Blazers the team that thought Greg Oden was healthy enough to play basketball. You could say that undermines my faith in them getting it right.

Besides, I am less worried about Kawhi's leg and more worried about his apparent rectal-cranial inversion.

I’d do CJ. Fuck it. would they? Cj and what?

worst case, kawhi sucks, sits out, whatever, and walks for nothing. in which case we clear 30MM off the books next offseason. with 40MM in expirings.

even if he walks, there is the possibility of a sign and trade to recoup some assets.

Best case? Chips baby. plural.

Kawhi doesn’t live in LA. He lives in SD in the suburbs (la jolla.) Your assumptions are wrong.

I think people are downplaying his health. He wouldn't even be available if not for the injury.

What if it is the same as if Brandon Roy wasn't a Blazer and we traded for him in 2010 and he played one injury filled year for us?

That's pretty standard.

I thought so.

Hire an independent third party. Bring down a crew from UW.

Offer up CJ plus. If he fails the physical, we get CJ back.

Id prefer to see Dame/CJ/Leonard/Aminu/Nurk though. I think that contends with any other starting 5.(until DMC is fully healthy and 100%)

um we are 3 seed without Kawhi
We were 3 games from being completely out of playoffs during a year when every other West team had a major injury and Blazers were one of healthiest teams... most those teams are healthy now and added peices while Blazers lost Ed Davis and added a guy who didn’t play a game last season (Curry) and another who is d-league quality (Stauskas)

One big problem with that is if the trade falls through then you have players coming back to a team, and now those players know you were willing to give them up - they will resent that. You can see how Baldwin reacted towards his former team last night to know that resentment is real.

I agree, but if I was them, that's what I'd want.

That one is really tough because if the Spurs don't want CJ I don't know if we have the type of offers to compete with other teams.

If I'm the Spurs some other teams have some intriguing offers (just the teams mentioned):
Denver - Michael Porter Jr, Gary Harris, and a future 1st
LAC - Something around Tobias Harris? We could probably beat their offers.
Phoenix - Has a ton of young guys like Josh Jackson, Chriss, Bender, Bridges, and Okobo plus contracts to match salary
Toronto - Has a young guy like OG but I'm not sure if they have enough unless SA wanted DeRozan.
Washington - Would likely offer Otto Porter.

Now that I look at it, I guess we have just as good of a shot as any of those teams. The problem is that list doesn't include LAL, Philly, or Boston who could all blow away any package by the other 26 teams.
We can offer the TPE... maybe they'd be interested in that? It would have to be a secondary move, but...

The Portland Trail Blazers have talked to San Antonio about Kawhi:

“Hey, Pops, we'd like to talk with you about Kawhi.
"Yeah, you open to trading Dame or CJ?
"Uh...can you guarantee that Kawhi's healthy and will re-sign with us?
"Nope and nope."
"Well then, we' have to say no on including Dame or CJ."
"Have a nice summer."
