Blazers have talked to San Antonio about Kawhi

One big problem with that is if the trade falls through then you have players coming back to a team, and now those players know you were willing to give them up - they will resent that. You can see how Baldwin reacted towards his former team last night to know that resentment is real.

Good point. Another example would be Harkless starting the season last year all sulking.

We can offer the TPE... maybe they'd be interested in that? It would have to be a secondary move, but...

TPEs aren't tradeable. You might be able to structure a deal that included another player going to Portland for the TPE, which would generate a TPE for the Spurs, but that seems like a stretch.

I thought so.

Hire an independent third party. Bring down a crew from UW.

Offer up CJ plus. If he fails the physical, we get CJ back.

Id prefer to see Dame/CJ/Leonard/Aminu/Nurk though. I think that contends with any other starting 5.(until DMC is fully healthy and 100%)
If we got Kawhi without giving up CJ, he better be on his way the next day for Love.

Dame
Baldwin/Curry/Trent
Kawhi
Love
Nurk

I’d take any of those 3 at the 2 to upgrade Chief to Love, it also gives you 3 all-stars(actual all-stars)

Regarding this Dame is the perfect example that market size doesn't marrer.
I know Dame has done well with his brand especially in the NW and some national.
Just going by what his camp was saying regarding SA being able to pay him more and he would lose a ton if traded.
Maybe they didn't mean big market?

I don't think people realize how good Kawhi is. If completely without question marks like contract, health, or agency, you couldn't dream of getting him for Dame + prospects in a trade, much less CJ, or our rookies/youngins. His value is so depressed now because of all of this nonsense that surrounds him-- and we're in a position where we can afford to take these risks. What do we really have to lose? If it blows up, we clear salary for good and start over in 2020-- some people here want to do that now as is.

If it works out and he's healthy and decides to stay, you have a duo in Dame/Kawhi that can compete with any other duo in the league.
I agree. I wouldn't rush it though. I'd let the Spurs know I'm interested in potentially beating all offers and to give me a call before they make the deal. Then I'd touch base every couple days.

No point in overpaying. If they get an offer we can't match they won't get back to us and we've lost nothing anyway.

I whole heartedly disagree. I think CJ is a better overall scorer and I think Love crushes that Defense. Kawhi, AMinu, Nurk would hold almost anyone at bay. You put Love out there and we are hurting again.
Aminu's D is underrated by some around here. He is routinely put on the other teams best player and guards the 3-5 spots.

Did you project us as a 3 seed this season?
I did... I projected 56 wins... so they actually underachieved to my expectations... and before the season we hadn’t seen a full year of team together with a full training camp... now we have so we know what this team is... not good enough to win a game in the playoffs... and stop touting a 3rd seed when we were 3 games from not being in the playoffs. Other teams will be healthier this year, and have added peices, while Blazers lost peices and have been exposed on how to guard Dame and CJ... I will not be surprised if Blazers do not make the playoffs if the roster stays as is

Yeah, that's what I meant. If they have a salary they'd like to dump, assuming they are thinking of going young.

56 really? Yeesh... I don't remember what I picked... We certainly lost enough close games that we could have gotten there if Harkless and Nurk had better starts.

Well there are two players on their roster that would be considerations for our TPE. The most likely is Patti Mills who is still owed over $37 million over the next three years. The other is Danny Green at $10 million but he only has this season left.

I'd take Mills back if that helped get the deal done. Heck, we could even cut him so he could go back to them.

He can't go back to them. There is no way we'd cut someone with that much money left on his deal.

We cut Steve Francis. But yeah I forgot about him not being able to go back to them. Either way, it's not a bad contract for Patty. It probably wouldn't be worth it for SA to cut. Better keep him around as a mentor for the kiddos.

I think you are overvaluing Mills worth both as a player, his contract, and to the Spurs. He's okay but not I'm sure the Spurs would like to get rid of him if they are trading Kawhi.

We were 3 games from being completely out of playoffs during a year when every other West team had a major injury and Blazers were one of healthiest teams... most those teams are healthy now and added peices while Blazers lost Ed Davis and added a guy who didn’t play a game last season (Curry) and another who is d-league quality (Stauskas)
I wouldn't be surprised if the Blazers miss the playoffs next season if no major changes are made.

I wouldn't be surprised if you weren't surprised if we miss the playoffs next season.

I think people are downplaying his health. He wouldn't even be available if not for the injury.

What if it is the same as if Brandon Roy wasn't a Blazer and we traded for him in 2010 and he played one injury filled year for us?
Roy had degenerative knees and we had plenty of evidence of it on the floor with his diminished abilities. Don't think we even know wtf is going on with Kawhi. It's why this minicamp will give some insight at least.

Trade ticker says that trade is awful for the Blazers. Funny how trade ticker formulates it's predictions.
Wade baldwin's summer league is skewing it in favor of the Spurs haha

Well there are some people who are saying Kawhi has a degenerative condition as well.

It would shock the heck out of me, unless, God Forbid, an injury to a key player happens. Blazers are heading on a path to success. Doubters gonna doubt.

What make you think I disagree with you? I just posted a pic saying it wouldn't surprise me if Hailblazers wasn't surprised that BigGameDamian wouldn't be surprised if the Blazers don't make the playoffs.

Isn't that clear? :)

Kawhi doesn’t live in LA. He lives in SD in the suburbs (la jolla.) Your assumptions are wrong.

You're right, I've never actually checked where he grew up, just hearing erroneous reports he's from LA to base it on. Still, why do you feel Portland would have a growing appeal on him, where it really hasn't on the last 2-3 generations of players that have come through here?
