Blazers Interested In Przybilla

Center Joel Przybilla is in Portland today to have a physical and possibly to sign a free agent contract, and general manager John Nash said the team's search for a shooting guard is over after being convinced that Richie Frahm is the best option on the market.

Przybilla is a 7-foot-1, 255-pounder who rebounds and blocks shots more than he scores. In 17 games last season, he averaged 2.9 points, 6.5 rebounds and 1.0 blocks in 20.4 minutes playing for Milwaukee and Atlanta.

"He's a decent player," Blazers coach Maurice Cheeks said. "And any time you can get a decent player, he can help your team. I don't remember a whole lot about him, but he's active and can rebound and block a few shots."

Nash said Przybilla is one of three free agent centers the Blazers are interested in, but he is the first center the team has brought to Portland. If he is signed, he is expected to battle Vladimir Stepania for the right to back up starting center Theo Ratliff.

Nash said he probably will look at all three centers he is interested in before offering a contract.

"I think we will have it resolved in the next couple of weeks," Nash said. "There's not really any urgency."

Meanwhile, after Miami signed free agent Wesley Person on Wednesday, Nash said the team has settled on Frahm as its backup shooting guard. Frahm of Battle Ground, Wash., played with the Blazers' summer league team last month after signing a contract that does not become guaranteed until Sept. 1.</div>

For one, I dont think they should sign him. They got Theo Ratliff starting, Vladmir Stepania as the back up and they got a project in Ha-Sueng Jin who needs playing time to learn. Jin maybe a project but if hes the 4th center off of the bench I dont think he's gonna turn out that good.

Stepania Can play PF,Cheeks is lookin' for Ratliff playing 27 Min' a game,and the other 2 will have the 18-15 min' to share,not good enough?

think what will happen if Theo gets injured...

He just officially signed today with the Blazers.

I would copy some of the story, but its hard to copy and paste stuff from ESPN.

Anyways, my thoughts on this, is that its a good signing. It won't hurt the team in any way. He was great for the Hawks defensively last year averaging over 1.5 BPG and 8.4 RPG. Should be a great addition to the front court.
