Man that Olshey is smart, showing up at Hawes' door midnight July 1.

He just gave him the Hibbert Curse!

Why not just go after frye if we want a stretch big? How is hawes better? Isn't he more expensive too?

Well if Stotts and Neil are there he's got to be the #1 target.

He's younger. I think he has better numbers too.

Hawes also has played the last couple of seasons. Frye almost retired last year from a scary heart condition or something. Either guy would be very nice for the MLE though.

How is Hawes worse/better than Lopez?

Ummmm ....

Brad Turner @BA_Turner
Hearing Spencer Hawes may be too expensive for Clippers, Seeking $8 million per, made $6.5 million last season

Hmmm that would have to be a sign and trade and since the Cavs are trying to keep him for themselves I doubt they'd be interested in helping us out.

If Hawes doesn't bring his asking price down we probably have to go a different direction.

What is the Hawes/Lopez comparison? Why are we doing this?

I think he's worth 7-8 million though. I don't think that's unfair.

Cleveland would probably cooperate if they thought he would leave if they don't play ball.

Think I'd rather have Monroe at $14 million than Hawes at $8 million.

Yeah, but Monroe is an RFA so that simply might not be possible.

Well Hawes at $8 million is the same to us as a restricted free agent. Only way we can sign either is through a sign and trade.

Detroit supposedly doesn't want Monroe on a huge contract and already has their starters in Drummond/Smith so he's probably more attainable.

I feel he is better overall and not quite as soft.

In the end Portland has to be realistic. They are not going to go after players that had no interest in the market and doesn't fit culture of team. Spencer makes a lot of sense and I hope they land him.

Yep, if we have to sign and trade i'd rather go for monroe as well. Just get Channing for the MLE if you want a jump shooting big that badly.

The difference though is that Spencer COULD sign with us outright. He would have to take less, but he has the power. So Cleveland would have to be convinced that he was serious about leaving.

Is Hawes the Cavs best big man? Sobering thought.
