I just miss being in the playoffs every year and winning 50+ games.
Maybe they should start doing that again?
Unfortunately, once we get back there, again, there will be those who'd rather start a new tanking approach, so we can leap frog right to the championship round. Just making the offs isn't good enough for many.

you're nostalgic for something that really didn't happen

* Portland has won 50+ games once in the last 10 seasons.
* they have won 50+ games only 5 times in the last 22 years; that's less than 1 in 4
* in the last 22 years, Portland has been in the playoffs 11 seasons and in the lottery 11 seasons

* Blazers had an 8 year stretch of making the playoffs, and they won 50+ games 3 times. But they had 5 first round exits in those 8 seasons and there was one reason they made it past the first round. That reason was Damian Lillard. They don't have him anymore

* in the decade prior to that streak of 8 straight years in the playoffs, Blazers were in the playoffs 3 times, and in the lottery 7 times

* Blazers did have a streak of being in the playoffs for 21 straight years. But in those 21 years, they only won 50+ games 7 times, and 5 of those 7 times were by the Drexler teams. That streak ended 23 years ago; about 5 CBA's ago when the NBA was completely different and Trader Bob was allowed to SPAM with almost no consequence.

and again, after that streak ended 23 years ago and the CBA's have become much more restrictive, the Blazers have NOT been in the playoffs every season. They have only been there half of the time, and have been first round exits 8 of 11 times.

Purgatory.....mediocre at best some years. But hey, the NBA is Marketing Machine, if your team is a consistent laggard there is THE NBA draft and tanking to get excited about. And ripcity two.

Excuse me 48+ games and making the playoffs.
And yes I’ve been a Blazer fan long enough to remember making the playoffs 21 straight years.

I must have missed that. I would disagree. Trades will be critical. Even if we'd done the most effective tanking job in history.
He just said we can’t sign a star or trade for a star. The only way to get one is through draft.

I don't think most wanted the players or coaches to actively try to lose. Certainly not extra hard.

I wanted scrubs playing the minutes Ant and Grant (and possiblity Ayton) played this season.

I think we could easily be looking at a top 4 pick right now if that were the case.

Trying to make the playoffs with this roster was just silly.

What a stupid, idiotic retarded fucking post.

You expect Billups, with his contract expiring, to just play the end of his bench from the get-go in order to lose more games? That falls under the category of "actively trying to lose", which contradicts your 1st sentence. I'm sure having all the guys with the largest contracts not playing would really help team morale and chemistry. It's like you know nothing about professional team sports at all.

Our record was pretty decent the 2nd half of the year and Ant, and especially Grant and Ayton missed large chunks of it, so your claim that we'd be getting a top 4 pick pretty easily is likewise stupid, unless you're actually advocating not playing Scoot, Sharpe, Camara, Deni, and Clingon either.

Scoot, Sharpe, Camara, Deni, Clingon and the rest have a lot of potential going forward. If this draft is as amazing as everyone claims then we should still get a good asset to go with them even if we're 10th. Even with no trades I see us as a playoff team next year, and I'm pretty sure there will be trades.

The way I see it is we overperformed and we're ahead of schedule. Getting the 1st pick was never going to happen.

Lol. Brilliant.

Brilliant response. Even more "brilliant" than I anticipated.

Did I say they had?

*Edit* Just checked, and no. I didn't.
Good God, you're not even worth my time. A loser culture is exactly what the Blazers, and Spurs, would have if they did as you suggested. Get it? Or are you still going to act obtuse?

Except I didn't suggest what you're saying I did. I very clearly said the coach and the players should be trying to win.

In your frenzy you have proven that you are not worthy of anything more than shitposts.

You wrote, which I quoted, "I wanted scrubs playing the minutes Ant and Grant (and possiblity Ayton) played this season."

Right. Tell San Antonio.

What does that even mean?
First, Ant , Grant and Ayton weren't on the Spurs roster so telling them anything is pointless. The history of how we gained/groomed these players has no relevance to the Spurs.

Secondly, and this is huge, Spurs started chris paul Harrison barnes and Wembanyama to start the season, so what the hell are you even trying to say other than the obvious, you cant admit being wrong?
They didn't start scrubs. They didnt play scrubs over the vets to start the season.
Tell that to Sa? Noknobs is right. It was an idiotic post.

You rebuild for the future. It's called taking your lumps for a reason. It's hard and it takes dedication.

But that's the most effective way to add talent to your team.

I agree with that too, you have no choice but to take lumps and implement an improvement plan. The thing that stands out to me is, that over half the league hasn't won a championship in decades and a good percentage dont know what it's like to advance far. Thus the expanded playoffs and I see it expanding more because of it.With players drafted so young these days, in most cases you really don't know what you have for 5 years or so. Except for very few that shine from day one. I think teams that want to advance must NOT just depend on draft but have proven vets that can compliment players drafted. And with salary considerations. That can happen through trades or FA. Detroit and Knicks are a good example of teams that are now trying a different formula by adding solid proven vets to compliment the few aces that were drafted.
