Blazers making offer to Kanter

Kanter (in this theory)
Leonard
Vonleh
Aminu
Mccollum
Lillard

I count 6 lottery picks.

And if you want to argue that none of them are stars outside of dame, then you're just helping my argument out.

We're entering a talent acquisition phase, not a "good enough, let's see what we've got" phase. Some of those players you list might very well turn out to be helpful rotation players, but of the bunch only Vonleh stands out as having the potential to develop into something more . . . and that ain't enough.

I think Leonard and Aminu both have quite a bit of potential to develop into something more. CJ could be another Rodney Stuckey. I don't expect him to be more than a sixth man.

Maybe Meyers, but Aminu has always struck me as very passive player, I guess that could change, but . . .

If we get Kanter, you don't see him as having the potential to develop into something more than a helpful rotation player? Or perhaps already being more than that?

Aminu? Really?! Dude was picked up basically for free by the Mavs because no one else wanted him. Hasn't shown much improvement at all in the 5 years he's been in the league with 3 different teams. Maybe the clean air and water in Portland will turn his development up a few notches?

So the Mavs picked him up for free and then the blazers gave him $30 million, yet hes shown no improvement? Olshey must be real stupid then.

To me a true difference maker is somebody who has a positive impact at both ends of the floor. Not even Lillard is that guy. Kanter is in the same boat and given his athletic limitations I have serious reservations about him ever being anything more than a stat stuffer.

How much of that 20-30 is swallowed by Dame's new deal?

Some, but remember.... Kaman comes off the books. Even if we sign Kanter, we still have a fair amount to spend this offseason, too. So the Blazers will still have a bit of flexibility.

Ok, so in your mind, we have nobody worth building around. Gotcha.

Woah bro! I absolutely, positively and undeniably believe Dame is a player you can build a championship around.

I'll give Damian this. He's a very conscientious seeming player, but he's a disaster on defense. Maybe that gets better or maybe it doesn't, but if he's our best player in three years and hasn't substantially improved on D, we're fucked.

Athletic limitations? What would those be?

Talk about damning with faint praise.

Never mind, we only passed on Antetokounmpo and Gobert for him.

I can't understand why you aren't still lamenting the fact that we passed on Michael Jordan and Kevin Durant.

I can absolutely agree with this. But I'd also add that Lillard is good enough to be part of a core for a winning team.
Definitely ... but at present I'm not sure he can be your best player.

From your mouth to God's ears.

"Hello. You have reached Cthulhu's answering machine. He is sleeping right now and can't come to the phone. Please leave a message at the beep...unless you are a Blazer fan...then F' off!"

I seem to remember Curry being a piss poor defender his first 2 years in the league. I could be wrong though. I also believe he has the drive and dedication to work on his defensive game each and every year

He also played for Donnie Nelson IIRC, so some of his early career failings had at least something to do with system.

Wait so if OKC is determined to match the offer why haven't they? And if their inaction in unloading contracts doesn't tell us anything, then I'm confused.

I wouldn't doubt that OKC will take until Sunday. Many teams wait a couple of days, just to stick it to the team that signed the player to the offer sheet.

Then theyre pretty damn stupid if they think theyre sticking it to us. We have like $28 million in cap space.
