Blazers making offer to Kanter

It's kind of a lose lose for OKC. Kanter isn't worth the contract but they have zero ability to add talent if they let him walk. He's a useful backup big man. If they let him walk the only benefit for next season is purely money saved. Not what Durant wants to see.

If we get stuck with him I'll be disappointed; but with the rising cap it's a contract we could likely get out of next summer. Biggest concern I have is his selfish play rubbing teammates the wrong way.
youth..that's on the coaching staff to recitfy

Didn't know this

You also have to understand that the Blazers are $21 million below the minimum salary cap level for this season. If they don't spend that money it gets redistributed to the players on their roster. They don't get to keep it. The choice is to spend that $21 million on free agents or spend it on nothing.

So even if this doesn't happen I guess we can expect something else to

OKC does not need more offense with F. Westbrook and Durant. I am surprised that they are so inclined to give him the max. Oh well, like I said the worst case scenario is still pretty good for us.

We have 7 ft guys that can defend and 7 ft guys that can score. Options. He might be a rental or future trade piece but he is an asset. Could be one of those emergers Neil talked about who is about to break out

Maybe because a 20/10 post scorer is valuable in this league.

Oh and you can't play small ball against a center that is not an offensive liability

Oklahoma City restricted free-agent center Enes Kanter is signing a four-year, $70 million maximum contract offer sheet Thursday with the Portland Trail Blazers, league sources told Yahoo Sports. Enes’ deal will include a player option on the fourth year, and a 15 percent trade kicker bonus. Kanter traveled to Portland on Thursday to sign the sheet, and it can be immediately transmitted electronically to Oklahoma City. The Thunder have three days to match the offer sheet and retain Kanter – or decide to let him leave for the Blazers. The clock starts once the signed offer sheet is sent to the Thunder.

The fact is, he fits the profile of a backup big: lack of attention to detail on either end of the floor and specialization of talent.

Presti can't be stupid enough to match can he? I have a feeling we're going to get him . . . Fuck.

Per Woj:

OKC has received restricted free agent Enes Kanter's $70M offer sheet with Portland, source tell Yahoo. OKC has until Sunday to match it.

Worst case scenario....... we hurt a rival by making them pay more then they wanted. Which affects them down the road for other player.
yeh, this is definitely win-win. And nothing for Portland to lose at this point. sorry i am late to this party.

I wonder if this will take 3 days

Probably; it puts us in an extended position where we can't offer that same salary to anyone else. Might as well reduce our flexibility as long as possible if you're OKC.

I can't imagine Presti matches. He's going to call our bluff and let us have him.

Well we still have enough to offer another max contract no? Not like there's anyone out there worthy of it.

And we get a center who averaged 19/11 with OKC, who is young and can be taught defense or used to make an exciting team that doesn't look suspicious when it tanks :ghoti:

I'm pretty sure they will match. I wouldn't mind either way though. I think it is a win win for us because I think he will end up being a good pickup. I think with he age and how good of a offense he has already he might be able to improve his D and that would make him one of the top centers in the league.

He is and he will. Though I think OKc's initial offer of $13.5 mil per season was a fair offer, I think the $17.5 mil per isn't shocking once the cap goes up.

First time I'm disappointed by a NO move he could control - wish he'd have made his next move by sign KJ McDaniels.
