Blazers making offer to Kanter

So to add just a bit of levity here...

Presti and Olshey (two pretty bright GM's, Presti with the more accolades obviously) think Kanter is worth a max offer. Unfortunately the board pundits think this would be a terrible deal for the rebuilding Blazers.

So what exactly do the posters see that those two (highly paid) GM's don't? Or, at the very least isn't it possible that any perceived deficiencies are fixable?

Some of you talk in absolute certainties, as if Kanter would be a bad get for this team. Honestly, looking at his numbers last season and age, he could be a steal.

And, there are two respected front offices that seem to feel the same way.
exactly!

They already said they would. OKC had been talking about maxing him. I think OKC was waiting for someone to sign him to a max offer - we actually saved them money. He will make less signing our deal with OKC matching than if OKC just signed him outright.
So we did OKC a favor, and they will favor us back by sending Augustin and PJIII?

With Olshey, anything is plausible. ;)

I don't think it's a favor

Neil wants Kanter and is making it hard for OKC to match. There are no favors here.

It has been hinted at, but no one has used the term: This is a Toxic Contract.

Not really. OKC had pretty much admitted he was a max player. OKC is keeping this guy. There's no way they let this guy go. Durant is a free agent next summer, and a lot of teams will have solid money.

If they let Enes walk without acquiring someone in return (maybe via S&T with Portland for one of our bugs?), you're sending the wrong message to Durant in his walk year. He'll take it as a sign they're not committed to winning. Then, they'll lose him for nothing. Presti has a fresh example of this in his face (PDX and Aldridge).

This is called contract chicken. Pure theater, nothing more.

Also, watch Kanter's takes to the hoop in this video. Anyone calling him slow footed is kidding themselves. He's just lazy.

I agree. That trade kicker hurts. So much that I think I am being swayed to the side that wants it to be matched.
I really want us to get something of value for losing LA and the #3 pick in the draft would be. But after waffling for the last few hours....I don't think his contract is worth him playing 24 minutes a game. And I think Plumlee will get and deserve the other half. We need his D. Might as well let Meyers get those other minutes.

That is my final decision. (for today)

In terms of his ability to mirror and slide? It's a different kind of foot agility.

Okay, let's get some stats straight.

Enes Kanter was a 24.9 PER for OKC. That's right around Greg Oden during his good season.
He had a DRtg of 106, which is right around OKC's team DRtg of 105.5. Slightly below average.
His ORtg was 122. That's the same as Anthony Davis and Rudy Gobert last season. (btw, Ed Davis was 124 last year... see a trend?)

He averaged 21.6/12.8 for OKC.

I think he's worth the money.
Thanks for the intel.

Not matching a kanter max is a sign you're not committed to winning?

Ps I think durant is gone either way.

All we're bringing in is athletic defenders who can't shoot! Here's Ends Kanter he's a near elite offensive post... Ahhh all he does is score why can't we get defensive guys!!!!

"We had a bunch of torsos and you complained that they didn't have legs - now we get a pair of legs and you complain there's no torso! You guys are never happy!"

OKC did it once with Harden. They have some bigs with potential, but Kanter is the most gifted on offense, and I believe he's fluid enough to improve on D. The cap is going up quite a bit next year. After trading for him at the deadline, I don't imagine they let him walk for nothing. I have no doubt OKC knows letting him walk for nothing sends the wrong message. The contract is an overpay, but not a terrible overpay.

Make a list of all of the NBA centers who are good on both the defensive and offensive ends and get back to me with the one we can get.

If "Swaggy P" is not available as a nickname, how about "Big P"?

Good post. Getting me a little more on board. Just when I finally come around and talk myself into loving this signing OKC will match.
