Blazers making offer to Kanter

Get use to the idea of us getting Kanter.
Last time Neil was in contact with Indy. Indy let them know right away that they would match, and Neil backed off.
That didn't happen this time suggesting that either OKC will not match or they're still thinking about it.

You are assuming he has the same type of relationship with both. I can see Presti waiting to the end

Wow. Wes now gets 70/4 from Dallas.

So, would you rather have a 23-year offensive-minded C or Wes at 28 coming off an Achilles rupture at the same price?

(In the end, I believe we get neither, but thought I'd ask.)
Seriously? No way..... that's 17.5 million per year.

He's so terrible the Thunder are willing to match any offer.

Whats the point of them waiting? It's not like they are reverse sticking it to us for making the offer. We are still far enough under the cap that we can still make offers or trades. And it sounds like we are content to just roll with what we have too. I think if anything them waiting hurts them more than us.

I'm guessing they'll be offloading some guys in the next day or two to save some luxury tax dollars.

Honestly I don't care one way or the other. On one hand he is very good offensively and at rebounding. His defense is definitely not good. So I'll take the offense, but not sold on the contract size .... I'm fine either way.

It is usual for them to wait - it ties up our $$ while we wait. kind of an FU thing. It's a big disadvantage of RFA.

If we get Kanter I'll root for him .... to improve his defense. ;)

Okay, let's get some stats straight.

Enes Kanter was a 24.9 PER for OKC. That's right around Greg Oden during his good season.
He had a DRtg of 106, which is right around OKC's team DRtg of 105.5. Slightly below average.
His ORtg was 122. That's the same as Anthony Davis and Rudy Gobert last season. (btw, Ed Davis was 124 last year... see a trend?)

He averaged 21.6/12.8 for OKC.

I think he's worth the money.
Swayed.
Although it started with the other thread where someone comped him to LMA - same/better points and rebounds, but on much better FG%.

Don't get my hopes up.

It's funny, last season when the Thunder traded for Kanter, I thought, "finally! Sam Presti fucks up! I've been waiting so long for this moment!"

I guess it's not funny.

You know what is funny? Olshey's trying to acquire ALL the starters on the 2015 All-No-Defense team!

Hmmm... Davis, Plumlee and Aminu are all No-Dfense team guys. Interesting.

It took Toronto to save us from the last Turk we tried to sign - will OKC be our Toronto this time?

So you people who actually want us to GET Kanter:
- If he's good, we'll get more wins and a lower draft pick (and we'll have much less cap space)
- If he's bad, we'll get a good pick, but we'll be stuck with a guy who his old teammates in Utah were openly contemptuous of, only on a huge contract

You better believe he makes us a contender.

If he's good we trade him.
If he's bad who gives a shit we are already bad and Paul Allen can buy his ass OUT.

I can't believe I'm actually putting you on ignore now. You've gotten that bad bro.

I'll lift it after we are 20-1

Saw this quote in the comments there: "even with his entire time in OKC spent with Russell and half that time with Serge, OKC was 6 points better per 100 possessions with Kanter on the bench, roughly the same amount Utah improved after they traded Kanter."
Ouch. Defense wins championships. Maybe he can improve?

Honest answer? Wes in a NY minute.

Both huge gambles - but if you win with Wes you get a guy who plays both ends of the floor and is a positive influence in the locker-room.

It's the part about the trade kicker that just kills me. He is now completely untradeable!
Yeh, that's what i was thinking. He would be ok as a trade asset but I don't think he fits with this team as far as toughness, athleticism and desire to be better. And he is much less a good trade asset with that kicker. So, i think i am going to the I hope they match side.

Win win....if they don't match we get a good center...If they don't we get what falls off the tree and they can't trade him next year to make room for a fatty offer for Durant and we still him away

I thought I read in one of these threads that OKC wasn't very good defensively, and that Kanter's defensive rating is roughly the same as OKC's defensive rating. While I'm not trying to say that Kanter isn't bad defensively, perhaps his bad defense is partially a reflection of being on a bad defensive team?

I've always subscribed to the idea that team defense is far more important than individual defense, and that ANYBODY can play good team defense. We just need the right coach, with the right system, who will HOLD HIS PLAYERS ACCOUNTABLE, and then there's no reason Kanter shouldn't at least be average. The only individual who should be blamed for poor defense is the coach.

This is the same team that traded Harden in a salary dump. Do you honestly believe they have any intention of matching? It would be a huge philosophical 180 for the entire organization from the ownership on down.
