Blazers making offer to Kanter (1 Viewer)

Well sure we could deal Leonard Plumlee or Davis at some point but that does not prevent us from getting a massive untradeable contract in Kanter. The dude is not worth Max money in this offseason or any other.
You're thinking in 1952 dollars

Jesus meese, just when Lamarcus and Batum left, I thought you'd achieve some balance but man..I'm afraid this is not a good sign

I don't get why he's bitching. Kanter will be a Thunder in a couple days, and the Blazers will have at least spent some of OKC's dollars. Nothing lost for the Blazers.

Poison pill'd.

With Adams and the emegence of McGary, I like our chances.

You thought I would calm down when we went from an average playoff team to chasing ping pong balls in the lottery come on man you know me better than that.

This has probably been noted already, but a max offer for 0-6 yr vet is $16,407,000. With 4.5% raises each year that works out to -
yr 1 - $16,407,000
yr 2 - $17,145,315
yr 3 - $17,916,854
yr 4 - $18,723,112

With the Cap increasing over the next few years, this is a very reasonable offer for an expected starter. Even with Dame's max offer, the Blazers will have plenty of Cap flexibility.

Well, now that you mention it...what was I thinking?

You missed the other 5-7 reasons already talked about on this board. But your reasons support the point. I think NO does this just to distract us for a few hours.

There is now way I am going to read all 427 PAGES of posts in this thread.

Utah Jazz trade Kanter go from 27th ranked defense to number 1, not a coincidence. Dude is just flat out not worth a max deal simple as that.
So were you thinking Boozer or Mbah Moute were the smart choice?

I was thinking save our money and start buying terrible expiring deals like the 76ers get some assets not attempt to add an over priced 6 member to an already cramped front court

[QUOTE="oldfisherman, post: 3673736, member: 28624"The Thunder match because:

1) Due to the Thunders cap space issue, he is their only possible FA signing.
2) The Thunder can jettison end of the bench players to reduce the luxury tax hit
3) By signing him, Presti maximizes tradable assets.
4) If the Thunder don’t match, all they would have is the vet minimum to replace Kanter.[/QUOTE]

Honestly, I don't think they need him (though I don't think we need him either).
They have a nice 3 man rotation of Adams, Ibaka, Collison, and McGary. I think they're better with Adams starting instead of Kanter. They don't need Kanter's offense if KD is healthy and they just get much worse defensively.

Reggie Jackson was going to leave. They turned him into Kanter. If Kanter leaves, well they didn't lose anything they weren't going to lose anyway.

I don't think a guy who can't play defense on a max contract with a big trade kicker is a great "tradeable asset."

I assume they still have an MLE exception to sign a player if they are over the cap.

As a blazer fan and OKC hater, I hope they keep him.
If I were an OKC fan, I'd probably hope they didn't.

Kanter is younger than the top 10 in next years draft...at his age it's amazing he's putting up 20/10 against starters in the league..he's way ahead of the curve..now coaching has it's work to do. Rolo wasn't much at 22-23

They also plugged in a DPOY candidate at his position, kept on with a 2 year obsession with energy/effort and defense, and benched their supposedly budding star PG for a guy who seriously sucks, but plays better defense.

Yeah it's been really working well for them

As a Blazer fan, I LOVE this move. Is Enes Kanter a flawed player? Clearly. But he's also one of the best offensive players at his position at the ripe age of 23. He can and will get better on the defensive end of the floor. The Blazers are in talent acquisition mode right now. Enes Kanter may prove to not be a great fit for this ball club, but he's a great asset to have regardless. I hope the Thunder don't match and I can't understand the intense negativity being aimed at him and Neil Olshey for this.

I hope the Thunder don't match. He's a very talented player he's only going to get better.

Yes, because if we max him, they'll be 10 million dollars over the luxury threshold. Someone is certainly going to offer Adams 10+ mil next year, and do they want to pay that much for a backup center? I think they'd rather keep Adams.

We did this to the Jazz a couple of years ago. We are like the league cake floppers!

They're $2m under it and this will cost them $40m if they match.

Shrewd move by Neil.

I think the problem I'm having is that I've been spoiled. Robinson, Biebs, Lillard, CJ,... are all a bunch of very hard working dudes. You know they'll improve because improvement is natural for hard workers.

I have a feeling Kanter isn't in this mold. I'm sure he'll improve, he's only 23. He's horrific on D, so it should be relatively easy to improve to bad, or perhaps even to mediocre. But, I'm nervous he won't improve as much as I'd like and I'll be another frustrated fan of his like the Jazz fans and the OKC fans.

JJ Hickson was putting up 20/10 and no one thought we should give him 10 million let alone anything near a max contract.

We were also an entirely different team and had entirely different needs. Besides that, Hickson was at his ceiling.
