Blazers making offer to Kanter

JJ Hickson was putting up 20/10 and no one thought we should give him 10 million let alone anything near a max contract.
you realize the cap just went up and next year goes through the roof, right? JJ Hickson hasn't started a game since he went to Denver..Kanter has started for 2 teams and is 3-4 inches taller than JJ, several years younger and a better player

It takes more than one player to make that happen. Shit man, the Knicks have Melo and haven't done shit really. Trust in Olshey
Tsk, tsk. The Knicks have lots and lots of bad contracts to expunge = it'll take a lot of time. The blazers have Lillard and exactly ZERO bad contracts (unless Kanter joins us, of course), and lots of lotto picks bursting with potential.

The Bulls were an elite defensive team with Carlos Boozer playing big minutes at PF and even C. The defense was great with Hinrich and Dunleavy playing minutes, too. Both those guys are geezers and not very good defenders.
Who was their coach?

[QUOTE="oldfisherman, post: 3673736, member: 28624"The Thunder match because:

1) Due to the Thunders cap space issue, he is their only possible FA signing.
2) The Thunder can jettison end of the bench players to reduce the luxury tax hit
3) By signing him, Presti maximizes tradable assets.
4) If the Thunder don’t match, all they would have is the vet minimum to replace Kanter.

Honestly, I don't think they need him (though I don't think we need him either).
They have a nice 3 man rotation of Adams, Ibaka, Collison, and McGary. I think they're better with Adams starting instead of Kanter. They don't need Kanter's offense if KD is healthy and they just get much worse defensively.

Reggie Jackson was going to leave. They turned him into Kanter. If Kanter leaves, well they didn't lose anything they weren't going to lose anyway.

I don't think a guy who can't play defense on a max contract with a big trade kicker is a great "tradeable asset."

I assume they still have an MLE exception to sign a player if they are over the cap.

As a blazer fan and OKC hater, I hope they keep him.
If I were an OKC fan, I'd probably hope they didn't.

Thunder are in a win now mode, so they probably match.

One of the main reasons the Thunder fans want Kanter back is he and Westbrook developed a very high level of chemistry operating in the pick and roll. The Thunder had a better winning % for the 26 games Kanter played for them than before the trade. (15 wins, 11 loses).

However, I am not sure how injuries to other Thunder players, or players returning from injuries may have also affected their improved win/lose record.

This is a fucking horrible signing if OKC doesn't match at least Ed Davis and Plumlee play some defense, Kanter is a joke on that side of the ball might as well just throw out a rotating member of s2 we could guard as well as Kanter. We already have 5 big front court players we sure as hell don't need a 6th.

I hope OKC says fuck you declines then we have to watch this cluster funk of a team blow up, Neil gets fired loses his house and gets violently sodomized by a hobo on Burnside.
I don't agree with the second half of your post, but I find it hilarious.

I just want to point out that it's not me saying this. I'm sure I'll get blamed anyway.

I love this thread.

Here's to you S2 Blazers fans.

I honestly don’t know if the Thunder will match. They have a lot of guys to sign coming up. Next summer Durant and Waiters, then in 2017 Ibaka, Adams and Westbrook. Even with the cap vaulting huge, Durant and Westbrook will eat about $70mil per year. Do they really want to be close to $90mil With just those 2 and Kanter?

All the people that say: Kanter can learn to play defense. Why should he? He's been paid SEVENTEEN MILLION DOLLARS PER YEAR. If that doesn't tell him he's perfect the way he is, what would?

Zach Randolph learned defense - out of necessity, because he had been traded twice for a sack of peanuts and was on the verge of bouncing out of the league. But Kanter asks to be traded and gets his way, then doesn't like how much his new team is prepared to pay him so goes to another and gets the max. If I was him I'd think I shat gold.

But he's better than a young Aldridge, right? Who WOULDN'T want that?

If thunder decline, they obviously didn't think he was worth it.

That's usually how restricted free agency works; you have to overpay to get a team to relinquish a player and their rights. But with the cap skyrocketing next year, it won't be awful. Batum might make 20 mill in a couple years. In-fucking-sane.

They offered him $15.5 million. There were rumors they'd grow a pair and just offer the max rather than wait. That'd have cost them more money because they can offer greater annual increases.

Z-Bo was not on the brink of being bounced from the league. That's the most ridiculous thing I heard all day. He'd have had to take a paycut, but he was going to find someone to CTC.

I think I heard 13.5/year somewhere

I read an article or two outta OKC earlier that said they'd talked to him about $15.5. $13.5 was all I'd seen to that point as well.

Dunno if it's true, but I was scouring trying to figure out the likelihood of a match. It seems like a certainty.

By that logic, any time we sign a free agent, other teams who didn't offer him what we did obviously didn't think he was worth it. Clearly Aminu and Davis were bad signings because Dallas and LA didn't think they were worth it.

That's a fair point.

I don't care about individual awards this is a team game where titles mean everything. If not why would West give up 11 million to play with the Spurs.
So you think Kanter should have signed with the Spurs? West is 35 fucking years old.

Looks like a man among boys in that last video. And he was 17 at the time.
