@BobbyMarks42: Looking roughly at $98.4m in salaries for OKC and a $25m tax (for now) if the EK offer sheet is matched. That tax bill is not set in stone.>>>>>

They're screwed either way.

They match and they pay a HUGE tax. Not to mention they'll have to shed 2-3 players in the process - Augustin/PJ3.

They let him walk and they lose depth and their only low-post scorer.

A total dick move on Portland's part. Fez approves.
 
Idiot presti is going to match even though they're well stocked on the front court to lose kanter. Yes they'd lose an offensive weapon but his value will not be as high with durant back.

It would be in the playoffs though. Plus it gives them a great trade chip in a couple years, when that salary seems pedestrian

They pay no tax, I thought, if they trade those players.
 
They still pay tax, but it lowers them into a smaller bracket.

Btw one of the articles in OKC, pointed out that they made it to the finals without a post scorer before, why do they need one on max $$$ now.

I still think the best thing for both teams....assuming we really want Kanter and aren't just fucking with OKC, is for them to agree not to match if we deal them Kaman in a separate deal.

He has literally no reason not to take the entire time allowed. It doesn't benefit him in any way to do it sooner

Well, as was mentioned by others, Kanter could theoretically suffer a freak life altering injury this afternoon. Waiting to the last minute accommodates for the infinitesimal chance of such an occurrence.

Otherwise, I agree with you.
