If I just heard you say that you'd rather have Meyers and Chief taking more swish3s than Dame, well, I don't know how we can still be friends.

what you're advocating is that we increase our offensive efficiency (since you haven't talked about pace) by 15-20%. That means that, if you're maintaining eFG%, we're taking 12-15 more 3's a game than we are now. And it seems as if you're advocating for Meyers and Chief to do so, rather than Dame (I agree that CJ can keep shooting the way he has been).Dame should also take more swish3s, but needs to have open looks that result from effective screens. This is another compelling reason to include Meyers in the offensive strategy. Adding 12-15 points/game to Blazer scoring would be enough to strongly improve the number of wins.
One of the issues is that Chief and especially Meyers have decent 3pt% because they almost literally (in Meyers' case, literally) never take a contested shot. If they're not wide-open, they don't (and in Meyers' case probably can't) shoot. Yes, I'm sure that if we posted Dame up in the corner and gave him 3-5 wide open looks a game his % would go up. Team efficiency wouldn't, because you'd have sextuple the number of 24 second violations from Meyers and Chief passing when not wide open. Or turning the ball over. Or...
damn, I have this pathological need to go make some homemade Blazers gear.
Blazers made only 9 swish3s against the Hornets, far short of the 15 they would have with this suggested strategy. And the wrong guys took some of the shots. Mo and Zach should not be taking 3 point attempts, as the Hornets game showed. Meyers made his swish3, and could have contributed another 12 points with 8 shots. It is time to assign more playing time to Meyers taken from the min given tonight to Zach and Mo.
Yes! Meyers is shooting 50% for 3s and 61% for FG. Please check his stats (and the earlier parts of this thread).
I strongly disagree. Meyers has the best season stats on the team and you need to recognize the facts!
In past seasons, and in the playoffs, Meyers has made greater than 50% of the swish3s, and his shot has improved this year. With improved screens and passing added to better shooting this year, and better defense, he can bring the additional points to keep the Blazers up to the needed 26 points/quarter average needed to win.
His career 3P% is 37.6%, he doesn't offer much aside from three point shooting, his inclusion would hurt the team on the defensive end way more than it would help in offense which is the reason why he doesn't play.Sarni, we disagree. When you have a Blazer making the highest % of shots, you need to increase his participation. If you could look past negative bias and recognize the improvements, you might see the opportunity for getting the Blazer swish3 % back to above the league average.
Meyers has shown that he scores 12 points with 8 swish3 attempts, gets Dame and CJ open shots, and is improving on defense. His talent can improve the success in winning when included in the strategy.
except Mo and Meyers play different positions...Meyers has improved...he still hesitates..just not as much. I think Stotts sees who wins at practice regularly...Ed Davis beat Meyers out of the gate..Collins is getting the rookie look that Meyers got his first year here. Collins is just a natural basketball player....he plays pretty smart even though he makes rookie mistakes...Meyers got benched after the game where he couldn't catch the ball on 3 consecutive turnovers...as talented as he could be....Meyers problem has always been mental...lacking quick decision making skills....if he could conquer that, he'd be a solid basketball player.Blazers made only 9 swish3s against the Hornets, far short of the 15 they would have with this suggested strategy.
Meyers should be in as center, agreed. His season statistical lead in shooting is clear, and he has made improvements this year.
Terry needs to put Meyers in for swish3 scoring, especially at times like the 4th quarter of the Hornets game last night. When Jusuf is tired or making mistakes, like turnovers, Terry could substitute Meyers for him and get both freshness and scoring. I don't agree that Meyers would be likely to commit a turnover.
OK Sarni. Now you are getting the message. Ten shots taken can mean 15 points and the win.
With Dame, CJ, and Meyers each getting 5 or more swish3s each game, and Chief, Shabazz, and maybe Mo each adding 1 or 2, the added points needed for the 112 or more 48 min scoring becomes much more likely.
Let's keep the 15 swish3s per game string of wins going.
