The Blazers lost the swish3 contest against WAS scoring 11 of 30 versus 13 of 32 by WAS. There was good early shooting by the Blazers that got to a 20 point lead the was there for much of the game. But WAS used swish3s to make runs and trim the lead. Dame had another (3rd) 40 point game, getting him to being the only NBA player to do so at this point.

Dame was 3 of 10, CJ was 3 of 5, Chief was 2 of 4, Meyers was 1 of 1, Nik was 1 of 2, Jake was 1 of 5, and Nurk, Zach, and Simons were each 0 of 1. Simons should not be attempting swish3s. There were some nice layups throughout the game, especially in the 3rd quarter, and an excellent in bounds steal by Dame. Defense intensity was good, and there were 26 assists, with good communication facilitating the good team effort.

Substitutions were again minimized by the coaches which did allow WAS to mount a come back run. Nurk played 31 min, Dame 38, and CJ 39. Even though Meyers made 5 points and got a rebound in only 4 min, making both his swish3 and dunk2, and Zach and Chief fouled out, he was in there only 4 min. I do not understand leaving Meyers on the bench when he is making his shots and seems to be playing well. I would play him long enough to make 6 swish3 attempts and add his talents to the strength of the Blazer offense. That was not needed for this win, but will be in upcoming games, in which the Blazers are likely to need about 15 swish3s to get the win. It is good to still be near the 70% win trajectory. Let's pursue it!
 
YES! Let's hope that the Knicks game Nov 20 gets him there, and that the coaches recognize his scoring talent and call on him for the 16-20 points per game that he should be contributing.

As is the pattern, the Blazers won the game scoring more than 15 swish3s, and are alone at the top of the Western Conference. The Blazers were 16 of 35 which was better than the Knicks 13 of 29, although the Knicks had the lead in the 1st half with very hot swish3 shooting. Blazer defense was only moderate, not high intensity in the first half allowing the Knicks to reach 60 in the first half. The excellent beat the buzzer siwsh3 by Jake at the end of the half was a major momentum boost.

Several Blazers did well in this team victory with 5 of them in double figures. CJ was 5 of 9, Meyers was 3 of 4, Dame was 3 of 9, Chief and Nik were each 2 of 4, Jake was 1 of 3, and both Nurk and Zach were 0 of 1. CJ scored 31, Dame 29, Meyers 15, Nurk 13, and Evan 10 as leading scorers.

This was a good game for Meyers, with examples of how he should and shouldn't be used. Shooting more than 70% of swish3s and making 2 nice dunk2s shows the scoring weapon that Meyers accomplishes for the Blazers. However, feeding him the midrange ball with 2 men on him is what not to do. Meyers set excellent screens and produced good open shots for teammates, made good passes, and played active defense in this game.

If Meyers had been in the game for him to shoot 8 instead of 4 swish3s, we might have seen the 9 additional points scored that will probably be needed to beat the Bucks tomorrow. The extraordinary talent that it takes to make >70% of swish3s with coaches and players yelling at you to shoot is hard to appreciate. I am amazed that Meyers is at his astounding 50/50/100 percentage pace given the shouts that he is hearing, and would be relieved if coaches, teammates, and fans would quiet down and let his high accuracy scoring be at its best.

It would be a well chosen change in coaching to recognize the swish3 scoring skill of Meyers which can be a major factor in besting the Bucks and Warriors in the next 2 games.

What do you think of a hypothetical lineup of Meyers leonard, Meyers leonard, Meyers leonard, Meyers leonard, and Meyers leonard?

Leonard could pass it to leonard off the leonard screen for a swish3. And in the unlikely event of a miss, Meyers leonard would be there for the offensive rebound.
 
Well Strenuus, I can rely on you to be laughing and commenting on thoughts recognizing the talent evident in the NBA leading playoff swish3 shooting percentage, which I do and you do not.

You can rely on me to look for optimizing performance of Meyers, Nurk, Zach, Chief, Nik, Jeff, Evan, and others to add to the well recognized talent of the Dame - CJ back court to contend for the NBA Championship that seems increasingly possible this season. With a record of 12 of 17 and the WC lead, there is reason for optimism.

@swish3 During the game Meyers was WIDE OPEN for a swish3 right in front of Coach Stotts. I laughed so hard at coach's reaction to him not shooting that I had to pause the game and go back and show my wife.

The point is it is impossible for Meyers to shoot the necessary amount of swish3s for global domination because he is too fucking hesitant.

I don't get it. Coach wants him to shoot the ball. He has the green light to do so. He's been yelled at to shoot the fucking ball. I would love that kind of confidence from a coach. I would shoot so many threes that I'd be at Curry level for attempt per game.

Seriously though, if your coach wants you to shoot what is there to think about? Why the hell is he thinking? His eyes should light up every time he's left open and just let it fly. I don't get what is wrong with him mentally. Coach Stotts can't make it anymore clear that he wants him to shoot.

Its his slow shot, I think he knows he needs room to get it and he’s a poor judge of when he has the room or not. So he tries to gauge it and by the time he’s done that calculation he’s too late. I wish I wish the fans had a shoot it ML button we could press because apparently we can do that calculation a lot faster than him lol..

In spite of all the bitching about him passing up wide open 3-pointers, Meyers actually leads the team in made 3FGs per 36 minutes of playing time. Let that sink in a minute. Meyers Leonard actually makes more 3FGs per 36 minutes than all of Damian Lillard, C.J. McCollum, Nik Stauskas and Seth Curry.

I posted after the sky box game that I'm totally fine with Meyers passing up wide open 3-pointers. If he's not comfortable taking the shot, he shouldn't take it - whatever the reason may be. Because, if he's not comfortable shooting it, he's probably not going to make it.

Meyers's brain is like a single tasking operating system. It can only perform one task at a time, which means yelling at him in real time does absolutely no good. He can either focus on the task of shooting or the task of listening, but not both at the same time. By the time his brain is done processing what is being yelled at him, the defense has already reacted and he is no longer wide open, and therefore should not shoot. His brain is still running MS-DOS 1.0 when the rest of the league is running Windows 10.

Seriously, if Meyers 7.0's biggest flaw is he doesn't shoot enough 3-pointers, I'll take it. It's a big improvement over Meyers 1.0 - Meyers 6.0.

His biggest flaw is still defense though, at least to my eyes. The thing his purpose for being out there is to be a giant human that can shoot, when he’s not shooting open shots its frustrating.

He's actually been a plus defender this season. A plus defender that's shooting 52/52/100, setting good screens and getting an occasional assist is pretty good for a back up center. He's far from perfect and has 1 or 2 glaring mental lapses on defense per game which makes his overall defense look worse than it actually is. Because he doesn't block shots, people tend to only notice when he fucks up on defense. Thankfully, there is more to playing defense than blocking shots (and fucking up).

Also, even when Meyers passes up a wide open 3-pointer, he's spreading the floor and creating open lanes for Dame, C.J. Nik, etc. to penetrate. If no one closes out on him he shoots it. If he starts with 5 or 6 ft. of space, hesitates and then sees the defender closing out, he passes it. Drawing a big out of the paint is always a good thing, even when you don't take the shot.

Actually, I'm 100% fine with Meyers shooting nothing but swish3s, dunk2s and free1s. Those are the three things he does best and he's actually very good at all three. As a back up big man, I'd much rather see him focus on what he does best than try to expand his game. It's what made players like Ed Davis and Joel Pryzbilla fan favorites. They did what they did and did it well. I think Clint said it best:



Because of the regular occurring brain farts on defense (although, in Meyers' case, I think brain shart is a more descriptive and accurate term), he'll never be a fan favorite the way Ed and Joel were, but if the only difference between Meyers 1.0 - 6.0 and Meyers' 7.0 is he recognizes his limitations and focuses on doing what he does best, that may be the single biggest improvement in his entire NBA career to date.

And, in a backup center that plays 12 MPG, I'll gladly take that. Do what you do well and try to limit your mistakes as much as physically and mentally possible.

Lookie what I just found - the current NBA leaders in 3FG% from basketball-reference:

Two Currys and two Blazers in the top 4. Not bad at all.

Any hatred Meyers 7.0 is receiving is purely irrational. I get that is stems from Meyers 1.0 - 6.0, but this year's Meyers is actually earning his paycheck. Here's how he's producing compared to some off the other back up big men who got PAID in the summer of 2016:

Notes:
1) I did not include players who are actually injured (i.e. Joakim Noah)
2) I did include Timofey Mozgov's 2017-18 stats. He's not actually injured. He just sucks so bad, he's 4th on the depth chart of a .500 team and hasn't played a minute all season.

Meyers is outplaying them all. He leads the field in PTS/G and REB/G, as well as PTS/36 and REB/36. He also leads the others in ORtg and DRtg. In advanced stats, he leads the others in TS%, TRB%, WS/48, VORP and is lapping the field in BPM. He's clearly having the best season of the bunch. The others are all as old, or older, and have been in the league as long, or longer. The only one who is statistically close is Miles Plumlee, and he's playing fewer minutes on a last place team with a 3-14 record. In fact, Meyers is the only one playing on an above .500 team. He's actually playing solid back up minutes on the first place team in his conference.

And then there is salary. All of these guys are making more money than Meyers. Like Meyers, all were signed to 4-year contracts during the summer of 2016.

I propose we name the 4-pointer the antoine4 in honor of the legendary (in his own mind) Antoine Walker:

Behold: The 4-pointer. Maybe the greatest basketball quote of all time comes, of course, from Antoine Walker. He was once asked why he shot so many 3s, and he responded "because there are no 4s."
