Paul Pierce recently said that the three point line has changed the game not for the better. I agree that it’s run down the court and chuck a three point shot. I would propose the three point line only comes into affect the last three minutes of each quarter. Get better movement in the game. Stats on the three way to many shots.
Top 3-Point Shooting Teams (2025-26 Season as of March 2026):
  • Denver Nuggets: 39.4%
  • Milwaukee Bucks: 39.1%
  • Charlotte Hornets: 37.6%
  • New York Knicks: 37.4%
  • Minnesota Timberwolves: 37.4%
Key Trends & Stats (2025-26):
  • League Average: The 3P% is holding steady at .359, similar to the previous season.
  • Top Volume Shooters: The Golden State Warriors are leading in attempts with 45.1 per game.
  • Impact: A strong 3P% has a high positive correlation with winning, with top-10 teams averaging 36.0% compared to 34.9% for the bottom 10.
  • Individual Leaders: Top individual shooters include Luke Kennard (48.8%) and J. Tyson (45.9%).

I looked it up yesterday, and the lesgue on average in 2025-26 shoots 37 3PA on 89 total FGA. I 1995-96, it was 16 on 80 total. So yes, 21 more 3PA but we’re also shooting 9 more shots a game.

Accuracy was actually better in 95: .367 vs .359… i honestly think changing FT rules to be 3 to make 2 would drop the attempts a bit. But I don’t think it’s actually a problem.

your post made me curious so I compared:

In 1995-96 the average 2ptFG% was .492
this season, the average 2ptFG% is .547

so the question is are shooters today that much better at converting baskets than guys like Larry Bird, MJ, Reggie Miller, Hakeem, Steve Kerr, Jeff Hornack, Stockton, The Admiral, Sabonis, Barkley, Hersey Hawkins, Payton, McHale, Karl Malone?

or, has about every single significant rule change in the last 30 years favored offensive players at the expense of defensive skills?

The midrange jumper is almost extinct as part of the 3 or Dunk strategy, which brings that efficiency up; we actually shoot fewer free throws now.

I will be honest, I find the game now to be much more entertaining overall than in the late 90s

It’s definitely opened up the court. More drives and big monster dunks now. Though I think the big guys in the 90s were more dominant around the basket.

I was certainly a lot more entertained by the Drexler/Porter teams than any Blazer team since. Of course it helped that they averaged 58 wins for the 4 seasons from 1989-1993. The Pippen/Sabonis team in the 1999-00 season was quite entertaining too

dreaming about what the Roy/Aldridge/Oden team could become was fun until I heard the word 'micro-fracture'

no Blazer team in the Olshey/Cronin era has been as entertaining as those two Blazer versions. And neither of those better versions were as entertaining as the Walton/Lucas team....for about 1.6 years

So you like good teams that win a lot and are talented with All Star players and are expected to be contenders.

yeah, I'm more entertained by 58-24 Blazer teams than 31-51 Blazer teams (which is about Cronin's 5 year average)

You guys think that talent plays into winning more games? Which in turn makes it easier to root for and enjoy watching them play?

It certainly does for me. I miss making the playoffs 18 years straight.
