Blazers need more 3 point scoring

The Blazers scored 10 swish3s of 32 to beat the Pelicans who shot only 4 of 24 (16.7%!) with hot shooting by Shabazz and Evan. That is great, but the first half swish3 shooting was weak. It is great to see Dame hot in the 4th quarter and good determined play by Jusuf.

Blazers were 5 swish3s short of the target of 5 three pointers. Additional 10 attempts from Meyers would have added extra 5 swish3s and got us to 122-103 which would have been a clearer separation between the two teams. When Blazers are not hitting the swish3s they should be putting their best shooter ever and the best shooter in the NBA, Meyers, on the floor.

Meyers was 0-2 for 3 tonight.

I don't understand.... I thought he was GUARANTEED 50% shooting ???!!

I must have missed something... can you explain this to me @swish3 ?

You've asked the magic question.

Now I understand. We should have Meyers shooting more because that guarantees he will shoot 50%. So if he misses 10, have him shoot 20 more so he can get 15 swish 3s.

Is there actually a player in the league who is shooting 12 3-point attempts a game, other than Curry (who can justify it)?

Just imagine our game if it was built around Meyers attempting a three every third or fourth play. :D

Ugh

First, you'd have to get him open by a country mile. This takes everyone else out of their game. Besides, it's literally impossible to get him that open all game long. Ain't a' gonna happen.

Swish3 hasn't taught you this yet but Meyers is guaranteed to shoot 50% because he shot 9 on 17 until February.

The undeniable fact is that Meyers is a talented swish3 shooter who can add points when needed to win close games. This Blazer asset can be especially important in the 4th quarter of high intensity games at the end of the season and in the playoffs. The potent swish3 scoring force can add the margin to win the Championship.

It is not a given that other teams are likely to stop Meyers deliberate accurate shooting. In fact, there are no blocks of Meyers swish3 shots that I remember this year. This objection now represents a negative bias from previous seasons. It is important to focus on the positives that can be used strategically to maximize wins.

The discussion of why I am not saying, and have never said, that probabilities are "guarantees" of made shots has been productively explored in the thread, Current All-Time Standings that reference the important scoring efficiency that Meyers can contribute to reaching the Championship. I emphasize that we should value our strengths and look for the steps to the big win that appears now in reach.

By the way, Meyers took no field goal attempts in the Pelicans game tonight. Is it possible that you are faulting Meyers for misses by other Blazers?

Yeaj, that's because he pump fakes whenever someone's within 15 feet of him.

Why should people read your posts if you don't read theirs?
We've all said multiple times we're HAPPY Nards isn't playing. Therefore no, we're not confusing him with other players.

You who would say that you do not recognize and value the excellent team leading pre-March statistical achievements of Meyers are not in the right mode to maximize probabilities and promote possibilities for the Conference and NBA Championship. If you agree that Championship is within reach, it makes sense to look for and strategically utilize the strongest elements available.

To me and others who can acknowledge achieved high percentage shooting, there is a place for contributions of Meyers to the Championship run that lies ahead.

You who would say that you do not recognize and value the fact that a rookie has beat Nards out are not in the right mode to maximize the talent this roster has.

No Honkicracker, we disagree! Zach is a valuable new Blazer teammate of Meyers who brings strengths that increase probability for wins. When Zach and Meyers are playing together, I think the Blazers can mount a swish3 power scoring attack that is sufficient to beat any competitor in these intense end of season games and even the playoffs. In fact, as I analyze it, Meyers and Zach can and do improve each others game.

Can you make a post without saying swish3? I'm betting no.

The Blazers lost the swish3 contest against the Grizzlies and lost a game that shouldn't be a loss. Blazers made only 8 of 30 while the Grizzlies made 13 of 25 resulting in a deficit of 15 points, and scoring only 103 for a loss by 5 points. It is unbelievable to me that Blazer coaches did not play the leading swish3 scoring talent, who is still 4th in scoring among active Blazers, when the team was again struggling with FT3s and when Meyers was well rested and would be ready to contribute additional points and the win.

This Grizzlies loss was an example game for losing the 3 point contest and consequently the game. Even though Jusuf and Zach played well, the center position only contributed 15 points. CJ, Zach, and Wade scored efficiently with swish3s, but the Blazers really needed, and lost without, high percentage swish3 scoring that was frozen on the bench.

It is astounding to me that the Blazers failed to include the team's top percentage swish3 shooter in this game. With only 2 Meyers swish3s, this game could have been won. It is a vital characteristic of a championship team to recognize, value, and promote the talent, especially shooting power, in the team strategy in order to optimize wins and take the intensely contended steps to the championship. I hope that Blazer coaches will not repeat the mistake that they made tonight. This should have been a win.

The Blazers need more swish3 scoring, including 12 or more, optimally 15+ such power scores each game, and to get keep scoring 112+ (or 116+ against the Rockets) points per game. It makes sense to include available Blazer talent.

I don’t really find it ‘astounding’ that our coaches prefer to give all the center minutes to Nurkic and Davis instead of Meyers.

Leaving Meyers on the bench neglects the advantage of the swish3s that he could have scored and the win that follows. The Blazers need the extra scoring power that Meyers, who is (despite lack of playing time) the 4th leading scoring contributor among the active Blazers. IMHO, for the Championship, the Blazers need to include his scoring talent.

He isn’t the fourth leading scoring contributor this season, not even close. And the perception that he would score many 3s when trough out his entire career he has only had a handful of games where he scored more than 2 of them is also a bit weird and completely neglects the fact that he would have likely given up a lot more on the defense than he would have gained on the offensive end.

He is only here because we cannot get rid of his contract. Nobody honestly thinks he can contribute anything which is why he doesn’t play. It’s much better to give all his potential minutes to someone like Zach Collins who is learning and is already much better than Leonard ever was. If there was possibility of letting him go, we would have done this long ago. I don’t expect him to get any action in the playoffs either, doubt he will even step his foot on the court.

Hi Sarni. To clarify, what I am referring to is the numbers from all time scoring, which is discussed in the Current All-Time Standings thread. Meyers has 1803 career points, despite quite limited time this year. Furthermore, Meyers was leading in percentage swish3 shooting until mid February, and is still among the top efficiency shooters. Even though he has only 204 total min this season, he can add high percentage shooting at critical times to win games (like the Grizzlies).

To maximize chances to win, it just makes sense to include his talent, especially when he is fresh and rested and his teammates are gassed and missing shots. It would be a self-damaging waste to avoid using him in coming games, especially the playoffs. It seems to me that the main reason for not playing Meyers is the negative perception that is not based on his play this year.

His play this year does not exist. The sample size from the 75 games we have played is too small to be conclusive.

He is our second longest serving player and the fourth highest scorer. Kind of shows his impact since arrival.

Small sample size dude. Wade Baldwin has scored 15 points in about 20 minutes with us. Does that mean that has a better scorer than Dame? No. Why? Because the sample is too small. In a much bigger sample last year, Meyers shot 34% on 3pt shots, while hurting us in every other area of the game.

Wade Baldwin is scoring 27 points per 36 on 100% 3-pointers efficiency. That means he should play 48 minutes a night and shoot 40 times from three to get 120 points. Bulletproof strategy this.

Wade played well in the Grizzlies game, is 1 of 1 for swish3s, and that is great. He can add to Blazer scoring, which is welcome.

However, the advantage of including swish3 scoring by Meyers can result in winning. I would include him in the swish3 power scoring offense as the backup center, especially in the 2nd half situations when fresh energy and scoring will bring the success.

Meyers Leonard will not be included as an offensive weapon simple because he isn’t one while also being a defensive liability at the same time.

Thanks, Kingspeed! This clip makes it clear that Meyers can make the swish3s even when 2 of them are clearly contested.

Having this scoring power in the March Celtics and Rockets and Grizzlies games could have meant wins.

This was one off performance from him. He never plays at this level normally.

While true, he has been slowly improving lately.

Okay. I will say it. I will say what everyone else is thinking.

Your posts are the most delusional I have ever seen on this forum. I mean no disrespect and I hold no judgments, but this thread, your posts and your thoughts on Meyers is 100% fantasy lala land.

Do you shroom much?

LOL, exactly what I was thinking.
