Haynes has already said he expects us to try and sign spencer hawes if indy matches hibbert

just was at Sac forum, read there that "rumors" are he's lookin for 7-8 mil per

That's probably pretty close to market rate for a guy his size and with his production ... which just goes to show, how inflated free agent prices get.

Hibber - 7'2"
Leonard - 7'1.25"

When was the last time the Blazers had this big of a center rotation?

Well, Sabonis and Dudley - if you average their height!
But Sabas was past his prime and Duds had no offense.

Didn't we have Ha and some huge Euro at the same time? I thought they were both 7'3"...
Looks like that was just summer league. We did have Joel and Ha in 2005 though, and they average out to 7'2"...

mmm.... this is good news. I like Hibbert.

i like hibbert but i'm not in favor of doing a S&T for him.I'm in favor of paying him the max to get him, but it is 3 to 4 mill over what he is worth as it. were already overpaying him so why give more assets when he isn't worth what we are paying for him to begin with?

FWIW.... Listened to the MSP on 750 AM. Chad had Quick and Haynes on at different times. Both say that Hibbert isn't as loved by some in Indy as you might expect, and that they've talked to people in Indy and feel there's a good chance that Indy does not match, especially at the max. In fact, while much of the national media talked about how good Hibbert was during the playoffs, supposedly, Indy was a little disappointed in Hibbert's play.

I disagree - I expect Indy to match. But I'm hoping Indy can work something out with Kaman, then ask us for some small compensation for them to not match, and let us have the center.

What about just for a trade exception? Not a big deal for that

The Pacers have agreed to a 5 year deal with George HIll, according to a source.

I believe only one guy per team can get a 5 year contract now, so looks like at the least, Indy will not be negotiating with Hibbert during this time to up our offer.

We can do sign and trade without giving anything up, FYI. Indy could S&T Hibbert to us and just receive a player exception. Or, we could send a Claver and/or Freeland back, and the net difference in value would still create a trade exception for Indy. I'd prefer to agree to a S&T at this moment, as it would ensure that Hibbert is here (as opposed to waiting 12 more grueling days).

Hadn't heard that rule.... But even if.... Hibbert's signing our max offer of 4 years. So, all Indy has to do is match, and there's no issue.

yeah why would indy bother? they can just match his 4 year deal and save some guaranteed money

If I'm Indy.... I prefer another team come along, offer him the max, and then match.

We can't offer the 5th year, and our annual salary increases are smaller, IIRC. (without S&T, of course)

He could always take slightly less money for a guaranteed 5th year from them, and this eliminates that possibility is all.

One question I have is that if Pacers match what do we do next? I do think odds are 60/40 they do match. Do we go after a Hawes or kamam of someone else? Also our capspace would dwindle sigificantly if we match a Nicoffer, if he signs for 11 mil our capspace goes down roughly to 10-11 mil. So what is Plan B?

I think Oshley has already mentioned this in interviews, and I agree that the Blazers should have a team pow-wow as soon as Indy matches (if and when they do), and they should very seriously consider using this summer's cap space on whatever leftover free agents are willing to sign for one and two year deals. If set up properly, the Blazers can again have a large chunk of cap space in Summer of 2014. As of now, there will be a LOT more UFA's worth getting excited over.

The risk is that LaMarcus is upset at two years of limbo and playing with too little talent and demands a trade before the retool can be finished.

Won't Batum pretty much eat up all our cap space if we match?

It was all in my original post you responded to.

Indy can offer a 5th year and bigger annual increases. If Hibbert is wanting a max deal, if I'm Indy and want to keep Hibbert, I want that max deal to be offered by a team that can only offer 4 years and smaller annual increases. If/when Indy matches, they will be paying quite a bit less for Hibbert than if they offered the max they can offer. It's simply more palatable.

Did Hibbert accept the offer? Once he accepts, Indy only has 2 days to match right?

All bird free agents are free to resign with their team for up to 5 years. They can only be signed by a new team or in a sign and trade for 4 years. This includes restricted free agents such as George Hill and Roy Hibbert.

There is a designated player rookie extension which can be for a 5th year and up to 30% of the cap. Other rookie extensions can only be 4 additional years for up to 25% of the cap. A team can only give one player the designated extension and have one more acquired via trade on their roster.

A 5 year contract that a teams own free agent signs does not make them a designated player.

Dwight Jaynes pissing in our cornflakes saying pacers will match on his latest blog.

I don't understand the benefit for Indy on this deal, unless we are sending them a pick/player or both. His contract would come off the book regardless. Unless they are far enough over the cap to make a difference. If they have 12 mil free after the offer; then it's no point, IMO. If they get a player option and are close to going over cap, then I would see how that would make sense.

They will have three days.... but not until July 11th. That's the first day the offer can be officially signed.

Ahhh okay, been away for a while. So on July 11th is when all the proposed "restricted free-agent" signings can take place? Interesting!

No, July 11th is when all signings can take place. That is the first day that deals can be officially signed.
