I hope they wouldn't resign Batum at 12 million a year.

Where did you see a "toxic offer" in any of the news reports?

I didn't, just guessing.

Indy has said they will match any offer. Ptd sounds like they are being aggressive and if they want to make it a tougher decision for Indy, they put terms in the contract that Indy might not want to do (like front load or pay first year within 10 days or whatever else they can think of that would suck for Indy)

KP used this tatic and now I wonder if it will be used against him

I think that would only work if no one offered Gordon a contract for the first 3 days. We can't have two max-ish offers out at once if we don't have the cap room.

It's not offered, it's signed. Like Batum. It doesn't matter when he is offered, it's when he signs the offer

Right. That's what I meant to say. In other words, I don't see Gordon not signing someone's offer sheet in 3 days. No way he's waiting in case Indiana doesn't match Hibbert because he wants to sign with us so badly lol. So we've likely got one shot at a premium FA, and Hibbert looks like he's it. Too bad Indiana is very likely to match.

Source familiar with Pacers' thinking says team likely to match any offer for C

RFA Roy Hibbert's four-year, max offer sheet from Portland is worth $58.4M. Pacers center leaning that way. Indy has three days to match.

I guess I'm puzzled. I like Hibbert but I like Lopez more. I realize he had an injury but I would still offer him a max contract before Hibbert. Maybe they don't think there's any chance of Brooklyn not matching?

I also would not match that offer to Batum and I probably would have drafted Lamb at 11. I guess I'll find out what a piss poor GM I am in a few years. Gotta love the internet. Saves everything you say. :-)

How about this thinking? Hibbert played for Shaw. Shaw is from Oakland like Lillard.

Also, Aldridge isn't an elite rebounder, and neither is Lopez. Hibbert would be a better fit with LA

Hibbert at a "cheap" max (i.e. coming off a rookie contract, rather than a veteran's max deal) is not a bad deal. He's young-prime, a good defender and rebounder and has some potential on offense. Big men with that profile are pretty valuable. I expect Indiana to match, and they should. But I'd be pretty happy if they didn't and Portland got him.

Well with this Dwight Howard fiasco I'm sure some kind of sign and trade will happen for the nets involving lopez

For people wondering why Hibbert isn't immediately jumping to Portland's Max offer sheet, I can think of 2 possible reasons...

Nate Jones ‏@JonesOnTheNBA
1) Portland isn't the team he for sure wants to play for if Indiana doesn't match. 2) He could still get a bigger offer from Indiana.

Or that he understands he can't "jump" on the offer sheet until the 11th.

Oh, please don't think I was trying to be a shit or anything. Just pointing it out
No worries, figured as much.

On another note, I love how the biggest mention POR gets of its offer to Hibbert is a "Just In" update on ESPN...god forbid they give it a segment like every other FA rumor...

Go big or go home.

I love it!

Does that mean Hibbert has agreed he will sign our offer sheet?

The Clips had a very tough choice in matching DeAndre Jordan's contract. Many people still think it was the wrong choice, they could've paired CP3 and Griffin with another superstar like Howard. I wonder if Neil knows the Clippers were much closer to not matching then people realize, and he wants to put the Pacers in a similar corner.

Translation of that Blazers tweet: Portland signing Hibbert to max offer sheet July 11 that Pacers must match to keep All-Star center

Brilliant diversionary tactic. Offer the max to a player on each team which wants Gordon. While they scramble, we take Gordon.

You can't offer a player on every team,, can you? Once you make an offer, that cap space is tied up in the offer until the player accepts/signs, and with a RFA, until the player's current team decides on whether to match or not.

I'm fairly sure that that's the case.

This. People keep saying we're giving him "the max" like we'll be paying him 20+ million. 4 years 58 million is not that bad.
